Thank you for this. I’m a new puppy dad to a 7 week old and I’m nervous and excited to see how our relationship develops and watch her grow.
I got a puppy yesterday. He is 9 weeks and 2 days old. He acts extremely fearful. Like hits the floor and cowers away. Wont come out of the crate. Any noise or movement he balks. He acts scared and runs away from me while cowering. I've had other puppies before and this seems extreme to me. When I went to get him the guy was very drunk and had empty gin bottles all over. He told me he "lit this one up" the other day for barking. It was the little boy I have. I wonder if he yelled at them a lot or even hit them. He is such a sweet dog and smart. I'd like to keep him, but don't want a skittish dog for life. I am very outdoorsie and super active and always doing crazy stuff. I need a confident dog. The puppy people did say I could bring him back. What are your thoughts? I don't want a problem dog for life. That would be a total bummer.

You gotta do a whole new video for the Boxer, the always puppy goofball 😂🤣😂 My boxer always continued picking up new quirks and fears we had to work through. Easy enough to do that, but his energetic puppy behavior never quite ended, but I mean that in the best most adorable ways possible though. They’re a very unique breed, different than any other breed we’ve ever had. Best dogs ever.

For those newbies, make life easier on yourself. Skip the puppy phase. Get a nice dog over age 2, preferably age 4+. Soooo much easier! Experienced dog owners know this. Its the newbies that think ooo, must have a puppy. Its the newbie that should not get a puppy. No, noooo, no. 8 weeks to 12 months is a heck of a lot of work! You must supervise like a hawk! You really need to do your homework. The first 6 months is the most intensive phase. I say make life easier…get an adult dog. That way you know for sure temperament, size, and energy level. Much easier.
