Crate training? Stupid and cruel. Let your dog sleep where it wants.
@PawVlogs YOU should re-make this videos thumbnail and or re make this because THIS NEEDS TO BE THE FIRST VIDEO NEW PUP OWNERS WATCH. We had a hard time with crate training our first dog for the first few weeks. (She’s fine now, just hit a year old and she’s fantastic) We decided to get another pup and I came across this video by accident. HOLY CRAP it really works.. like what!? All the other videos online have you getting up.. every time they cry letting them out to potty and eventually letting them cry it out.. with this obviously we still let them out to potty throughout the night but if you make sure to keep them on a feeding schedule and make sure they potty before bed shouldn’t be an issue for long. Man I can’t appreciate this video enough. 10/10
can you answer please is it necessary for puppy to always sleep in crate? sometimes i let her sleep on the floor(on my shirt that belongs to her) sometimes she sleeps somewhere else and i wonder if i can let her sleep sometimes in other places or always in crate? shes almost 5 weeks and its our third day together
That’s a genius method ❤
I rarely leave comments on videos but felt compelled too!
I got my first puppy in 2022, followed your video and he was crate trained by day 5 (10 weeks old). We got our second puppy a few days ago, re-visited your video and he was crate trained by 4 days (8 weeks old). They’re both miniature dachshunds.
Your videos have been incredible, i followed every step and it paid off! The first few days are always hard, both pups screamed bloody murder and I was afraid what my neighbours would think (we’re in an apartment) but be persistent! After I left, I’d wait 10-15 minutes before returning (depending on how loud they cried)
But eventually a few days later, after 5-10mins, they would naturally settle down and I would repeat the steps as necessary during late night potties.
Whenever I was losing hope or feeling anxious, I’d return to your videos, re-watching them & reading the wonderful comments. Everyone who’s shared their experiences have been so helpful and reassuring, it gave me so much hope during hard times that things will get better and our pups can do it!
I wanted to do the same, this video was posted 5 years ago and still works like MAGIC! Good luck to those training new pups, be kind to yourself, revisit the videos if needed and don’t lose hope, there’s wonderful experiences in the chat that will support you through this hard time 😊 Thank you PawVlogs!!
Optional Tip (depending on the size of your dog) mine sleeps in their crate at night, they hate being there in the day as they associate it with bedtime. Now in the day I switched to a big foldable playpen and have separate spaces for bedtime vs. daytime and they much prefer this (no crying/ whining, they will happily play/ relax in the day pen knowing I’ll return) 😊
Good info! What did you do at 230am for Potty Break? You brought the lil pup out? How was it done?
I can’t believe this worked! After only 5 mins! I am so happy I could cry
He is too cute…I agree with your daughter.
Been trying this but my puppy just hates his crate. He just doesn’t get bored, he goes between sitting there and laying down. Me leaving then him going nuts and attacking his crate. What do I do? Please help.
Hi, it’s good seeing a video giving a different technique other than just ignore them, will be trying this technique with my 8 week old beagle just wondering do you put the puppy in the crate throughout the day whenever he falls asleep elsewhere in the house? Thanks
Thank u so much for this video dude! 1am and my 8 week old pup would not stop screaming in his crate. 10 mins later he's fast asleep!
I brought home my 9 week old corgi today & she wouldn’t stop crying in the crate. I came on YouTube, watched this video & after 25 minutes of training, all of sudden, she was quiet & sleeping calmly. I can’t thank you enough 😭🙏🏼
Day 1 of trying this. I had a puppy who was mortified by being caged. I did this trick and she was willing to sleep in her crate! Will need to see if this works for separation anxiety in general
Thank you soooo much for this video!!!! My 8 week old puppy would cry bloody murder for hours! I tried this and it worked in less than 10 minutes!!!! I would not believe it if I didn’t see it myself. Again thank you!!!!
GENIUS!!!!! Just brought my 8-week old Pug pug puppy home today, and tonight with your method, after FIVE MINUTES, he got the message and went right to sleep! Later he will get his pee break, and then right back in the crate until the next pee break or morning, whichever comes first. After I watched so many other videos, and was preparing for an “all nighter”, I stumbled on your no nonsense, calm, simple method. THANK YOU and subscribed.
Got my husky puppy today, got him a really nice crate, a bed, crate cover, toys and overall a lot of things to make sure he's happy. However when it was time for bed it broke my heart hearing him whine 3 mins straight and when I went to check on him my eyes got all teary I couldn't do it. He's sleeping soundly on his little mattress 4 feet away from my bed and he is just the sweetest, idk what to do with the crate.
WOW this worked so well, night 3 at 1am I watched this and it was a lifesaver from night 4 on… crazy how well this works! Our Vizsla puppy now sleeps all night in her crate with no whining!!! Thank you for posting and keeping this video up all these years!!!
Dude I feel so confident in this method thank you gonna get my pup tomorrow
Amazing video helped me with our new labadoodle. She was very unhappy being in the kitchen area with a baby gate. I sat outside the gate so she could see me and verbalized NO every time she started bark-whining and within 10 minutes she got bored layed down and has been asleep for almost 20 minutes and counting now.
Set a 2.5 hour timer to wake her up and take her out tonight around 2:30 am and my wife should be taking her out at 5 am after.
So far working like a charm so thank you for this general training advice helped us so far to reinforce good night behaviors.
Also if anyone is concerned about not having a crate etc. Just know the method works with or without the crate (at least for our dog so far) just sit in visible sight ignore the initial temper tantrum and watch as he/she will get bored and just lay down and start to fall asleep. Repeat leaving quietly when they are bored and coming back to sit and watch until the puppy stays asleep and make sure you set your alarms to wake up and take out the puppy and repeat this process (I am assuming as I'm currently doing this now at midnight hahaha been almost a perfect 30 minutes of quiet. Took prob 25 minutes after bedtime was initiated to get to the "sleeping")
Good luck to all the new and future dog parents out there sleep is possible while renforcing good night behavoris!!
Thank you thank you!! Our puppy was getting up 3 to 5 times a night, which we mistakenly took out for a pee each time. We broke the cycle by following everything here and holy cow it worked! the first night was tough, but by the 2nd night she got it. It works! thank you for putting these videos together, they have completely helped our family.
It’s midnight, and hard to hear the audio with my puppy crying.
My puppy wouldn’t stop howling and biting the crate. Started with this technique at 12:54am. It’s now 1:09am and I’m going to sleep with a perfectly quite pup…I’m blown away
Day 1 with my toy poodle – her crate has a nice comfy bed, a few toys and water
We put her to bed at 10:20pm, lights off and we went upstairs. She cried until about 10:35pm then fell asleep until 12:30am…
Then started crying again, but she stopped 7-10 mins later. I guess she fell back asleep by 12:40am…maybe peed in the pee pad during that time
This is okay, right? We didn’t go console her but I was this close 🤏 to giving in and going to check up on her
As I am writing this, it’s now 12:45am and it’s all quiet again. I just don’t want the puppy to have any sort of anxiety in the long term
We are new to this dog world. She is 3 months old. 🥺
Omg…. This works so well. Sitting here with my 8 week old blue nose at 2:30 am and he did not like the cage whatsoever he would cry and yelp so loud I would give in. I’d say I spent about 20 or so mins doing this and after a while he didn’t even ATTEMPT to escape as I left the door open. He is now sound asleep with the door still OPEN!!!!! omg I didn’t think this would work but it did I’m amazed!!!!!!!
Thanks so much for advice. My daughter and husband got puppy and you have been a lifesaver !
Question: does this technique work the same if the dog has been in the house for several months at this point, or would you recommend any additional steps prior to starting this method?
I’m going to try this tonight please wish me luck.
I’m reading these comments and praying I can come back with a success story as well! 1 week with our 8 week old puppy barking her head off for 15~30 minutes after we put her in crate at night. I guess she finally gives up but it’s very stressful on us all and I really want her to be calm and relaxed when we put her down for bed. 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks a ton for this vid. At first I was skeptical because I didn't see any "experts" recommending this, and I was worried that it would consume the pup by sending mixed messages. But after seeing all the positive feedback, I gave it a shot. And it really works! I'm not having perfect results, but definitely good results. The pup still cries a bit, but generally sleeps through the night without accidents, and that makes it worthwhile. Now I just need to get him to consistently eliminate outside…
What if the dog barks instead of whining? I live in an apartment so I dont want to bother the neighbours in the night
Question ❓ when he naps in the day time do I still do this? Any time he sleeps do I make sure he is in his kennel and do this every time till he goes to sleep?
Great video! Just wondering what is the size of the crate?
About to try this on my shepsky pup
What do I do if my pup is trying to completely push his way out? He's having a total meltdown when I try this 😭
This is UNBELIEVABLE!!! I can't believe how QUICK and easy this worked! I have an 8 week old rottweiler pup. First night he screamed and howled all night like he was being butchered. I tried this and it worked the first training session (puppy laying down calm). And it only gets better with each training session. I took it a step further and gave my pup treats when he stayed quiet and also started to create distance from the crate until eventually I'm out of sight, rewarding him when he remains quiet. I'm now sitting on the couch with my pup in the crate and he's quiet! It's only day one of trying this! DAY FREAKING ONE 🙏🏾 I promise you before this, if that door closed, he was howling and whining like he was dying. Even if you were sitting next to the crate.
What is your view about putting the crate in the bedroom for the first few nights to crate train?
First night with my 8 week old puppy..I’ve gone out the room a couple times for a short while and caved in to opening crate when she was whining..I am struggling with getting her to go on the puppy pads also
Sitting at 1:30 am with my puppy trying to see if somthing would help lol
how do you know when to come back to take them to the bathroom ( if they don’t cry for it)
Thank you 🥺
Omg this has helped me so so much I cannot believe it. We have had our cockapoo for a week now, he was 10 weeks when we got him and tried crate training and read so much information and nothing worked. He was being unsafe and biting the bars and got his jaw stuck 3 times so we gave up and had him in our room on the floor, but we still weren’t sleeping much. I tried this method this afternoon and have got him to go in twice now and settle so quickly. I’ve even been able to leave the room very briefly and sit out of site. This is the furthest we have ever got and it’s taken 30 minutes! I will be trying over night now solidly and hope this can solve our crate problems!
This is the first video I came across of this guy and I think he’s brilliant!. He literally shows us first hand with a untrained dog how it should be done. Excellent work! I like this guy I’m gonna subscribe and check out more of his videos.. blessings from Ireland 🇮🇪
How long do you do it for ?? Until they are quiet ? My puppy doesn’t stop
