If I grab my shipoo by the collar to take him away from the door he'll turn quickly and bite at me. What do you do for that?
I hope you’re still about to answer questions! Would this work to help stop a puppy (5mo) to train her not to bark and pester my house mates 8 year old dog? We always have to have the puppy on a lead because whenever the older dog who doesn’t want to play comes out she is straight in to it. The house mate is my Dad, so I can’t kick him out 😅
What if the dog goes back to barking after the treat?
That makes no sense at all. You are rewarding the dog with a treat when it barks ………..????
My room is a part of my family's home. When they enter into my area, my dog barks crazy, but if we go into their part of the home, she doesn't bark. Also, if I'm not home and they come into our room, she doesn't bark. I have a hearing problem and when she is between me and my family coming through my door, I can't hear a thing and I'm feeling so frustrated. I'm 78 years old and I want my family to come into our area, but fear they won't, because of my barking non-stop. Please advise I love my dog and I would like them to like her, as well. Thank you so much!
Do you have a solution for this situation? When I pull up to the house my dog barks out of his mind because I’m home. It’s hard to get her to stop.
My husband and I will try this. We have a new SharPei foster and live in an apartment. Bad bad mix for an anxious, reactive, territorial, strong-willed dog that has never had any structure or training. We are EXHAUSTED
Works like a charm! My dog is a rescue and has ataxia. I thought that before he learns, he will have diarrhoea from the treats. Butno, after 4 th attempt, he switched and came running…wow. thankyou so much for this!!
Ok, I’m going to try this 🙂 I’ll let you know how it goes….
I don’t get how this isn’t reinforcing the bark. Everyone saying to distract or treat after the bark. I want NO bark. Not quick allowed bark. How do trained service dogs not bark? My teen 14month dog has just started a month ago but is starting to go ape now at passerby’s or when we’re out at new things like delivery crates
So what if your outside and your dog is barking next to at something outside your chain link fence you still say I see it good boy/ girl and then treat them ??
I’m a dog trainer and this is almost the exact same thing I tell my clients to do with an alert or protection barker. If you’d dog is barking as a protection why in the world would anyone correct or punish for that? Instead, like Joel said, go to the window, assess the situation, I always throw in a good girl or good boy and I got it and I say ok go lay down or go to your place. Yes it totally works! In fact I just did it right now with my own dog.
Thank you, nice advice. Now you got me thinking what to do if it is the fens and dog is out of his mind =)
My neighbor comes in between 3-5 am and my four month old puppy alarm goes off. Extinguishment for barking at strange noises?
Will try the tactic in this video but i fear i would be rewarding barking at things that go bump in the night
Sounds good. Will try.
Does this work with a dog that is barking at nothing in particular in the backyard? I dont want to reward him with treats if it’s not the right way to deal with it!
@Beckman's Dog Training Thank you for the teaching. We have a GS who barks a lot. The problem is that we have a large property so when he barks and we try to approach him to get his attention he just runs away (he's fast!😁) either playfully (we can tell by his body language) or like "Whatever. I'm not listening to you". I will calmly follow him around until I get him but then is any correction effective?
So, how does this not teach them to bark first, get treats later?? The barking, even though is now stopable, is still prevalent. They still barked first, and we're then asked to stop. They shouldn't be barking at all.
Most barking videos are this. What about when you have two puppies and one of them isn't quite as fast or strong as the other and he gets mad and barks and barks and barks. He doesn't bark at people, or excessively at nature. He barks when his playmate is better than him. It's driving us insane,a s they're puppies (we've only had them for 4 days) and he barks at her ALL THE TIME!! We can't get him to stop…
How can this be applied to my dog barking at things on the TV ? (other dogs, horses, etc.)
None of your training methods work on my reactive dog, he won't even accept the treat in the first place and if he does he does right back to barking and if I try to grab him by the collar multiple times he'll start nipping at me. He will never give up. These training methods on YouTube are definitely made for easy to train dogs, not the actual challenges.
What if it's excessive though? A dog that does it MANY times even though you redirect.
Don't know if my methods are right or wrong but it works.
I sit out side and when they go to bark at a dog or person i say no firmly, if they continue i walk up tell them no firmly and push them away from the fence and let them know the fence is my territory, it took about 5,6 times now i don't have to say anything most of the time and when i do say something its just no and they stop. But thank you for your videos, they do help.
I don't do treats period
What about barking at people knocking front door.?.
You are an amazing trainer with easy to follow instructions thank you. I have a very anxious puppy, and I live in an apartment building, and every time they hear a noise they run to the door and bark. do I do the same thing you’re sharing here?
