Thanks for this. I love petting animals, so this is a challenge for me! My baby is 2 1/2 months old. I was doing all those things you mentioned.
@KaiLucasZachary, watch and learn. Education from a pro.

Really comprehensive guide, thank you.
ya missed an opportunity to say neeoww im not ok with that
Someone please help me asap I bought a wand toy to stop him biting me all the time but it’s not interested in the toy at all😢
Hey, I'm from Croatia too! I just adopted a kitten girl 4-5 weeks old and damn, she's restless! Sleeps maybe an hour or two, then play, eat and explores the house nonstop. Now she discovered play with hands and she can grab and bite all day and night 😂 Doesn't bother me but I admire that energy, not gonna lie.
I just got my kitten this last Saturday and I'm glad that yesterday I saw a video about not using your hands as a toy as I started noticing he was kinda starting to see my hands as toys so the second he goes from wanting affection to wanting to play I grab his toys and bring down his energy so that he's only gets the zoomies once or twice and when the zoomies hit I make sure he's on the floor with his favorite toys and kinda just watch from a distance just pushing any toys that get pushed to far
I have a 2 yr old who bites my hands and ankles. I understand what you say about redirecting but explain how to handle my cat while he’s actually in the process of biting and doesn’t stop or keeps attacking.
Thanks! I have the same problem and my cats nick name is Flecky
@jacksongalaxy, we have done everything – routine is play, feed, with non human play 1-2 hours twice or three times day. He will continue to pounce and bite me, not really my husband. Usually when im finally sit down in the evening. The night time he has hated since we got him at 9 weeks old from a farm rescue where momma was gone and his diblings were guven away. He was sick for quite some rime with mycoplasma on antibiotics but now clear. But biting, clawing and pouncing me has not stopped. It cant go on im devastated if i cant solve this ill gave to guve him up.
My kitten is 4 months old. He is a special kitten. Because he was found without his Mom and siblings. He was around 2 months old then. . Anyway he was not taught about the growing up learning things from his Mom. So Fortunately I was lucky to adopt him. I’m his real Mom. He is biting too. , I have toys that he is playing with and I also play with him other ways. So I guess Lucky is in his kitten stage for now.
We recently got a kitten and i read to not use hands and feet to play with her so i stopped doing it and if she did latch on to my hand and feet i lifted them told her no so she fell off and used a toy. She rarely bites my hand, my mum on the other hand constantly uses her hands and feet and she goes after her now and she tells me to control her and i told my mum don't use ur hands or feet. that's on you for not teaching her.
how can I teach my blind kitten to not bite?
Fostering a four week old kitten. We’re putting in our best effort to be hyper vigilant about playing with hands. She’s deaf, so squealing or sounding hurt doesn’t work. 😅 We’ve moved to only wand toys and using a stick to push around her floor toys.
My three and a half month kitten bites and claws my hand from when I got him two weeks ago, but he seems to have developed more control and gentleness with his lethal weapons. I therefore have decided not to trim his claws as long as he maintains them by himself.
YES. Hands are never toys! Nor are they punishment! Be insanely consistent with cats (and small children). My cats are so well trained that I can actually pet them while they are playing and not get bit, but that’s not how it starts out. DO yell like you’re dying should they make a mistake and nip, and never use hands and feet as targets for their play/hunting.
One of our kittens just started chewing my hair argh
I heard the baby kitten crying for its momma, for a couple hours. I had to rescue it. “Fury”. I solved its biting problem, by always giving a gentle tap on its nose. I gave her a minor negative experience with every bite. Not a smack, not rough. Just a little tap on its nose. She immediately stops and resets. She now bites things that don’t tap her nose.. lol😅In here in the Philippines, and where I’m renting, no pets are allowed inside. So I’m outside, every hour for 10 minutes to visit her. She goes with me everywhere in my shoulder bag, and loves my errands.
My kitty likes to bite me out of the blue, he is about 4 months old. He also behaves like sucking from his mom but actually on towels; those happened after I petted him slightly. Hope it will stop gradually.
Our kitten is doing the exact same thing. We used our hands as toys as well:(
What do you do when the kitten looks PAST the toy in your hand and goes around it, for your hand (even though you’re shoving the toy in their mouth, lol!) 🤔🤔🤔
Yelp! Please I have a 2 mo old kitten he is scratching us bitting us and even barks at us… At night when we are asleep he goes chomper mode and scratching mode, he was adopted and we dont know the customs that the other person had with him…He even has biten us in the face when asleep, I followed the advice of a person to put tummy up just like a momma cat does but I feel so guilty and uncomfy cuz it provoked him to bite me and be scared of me. I'm a first timer kitty parent.🥺
Lol the German auto translation of the title says "Stop NOW,(with) biting kittens!"
So when he attacks her hands, what is she supposed to do just move her hands and hide her hands? Is there a proper way to show a cat that hands aren’t toys without yelling at them? Because sometimes when I remove my hands, he thinks that’s even more of a game.
My kitten is 4 months old and draws blood whenever he bites. I don’t use my hands for play – just petting. The bites are often so deep that I have to give him a time out in another room. He will often attack my hands when I’m reading or watching TV.
So glad I found this lol I have adopted a kitty that seems to think our hands and feet are toys 😅. Extremely helpful. And need to show to my partner 😂
I’m be been redirecting my 7 week old kitten to toys for two weeks and still not getting it 😢 idk what to do
Thank you for putting this video out, We were having the same problem with our little girl Litl' Bit and we are going to be working on her really hard to brake the habit of Biting us!
😂😂😂 The lady from Croatia is so cute. Also 👇👇👇👇
Here I am raising my third kitten, watching this to refresh my mantra "don't play with your hands". It's so hard to hold back!
Parental failure. Teach him not to do that.
I got a kitten when he was about 4 weeks. I had to bottle feed him. He "nurses" on my neck and rubs his mouth on my mouth. Why
My parents played rough with their hands with my 6 week old kitten for a week while I was gone on a trip. Now I have him back he's crazy and avoids toys and goes straight for the hand. Am I doomed?
Dealing with this nightmare right now. My kitten is around 8 weeks old. Initially, I'll admit, I over pet him because he was so damn adorable and I was able to take the bites. I mean, he never tried to pierce, but it still was painful. It was like handling a cactus between his teeth and claws. Prior to watching this video my wife and I decided we need to be a tad more strict on him when he wants to go in for the bites. It was primarily with me since I used to allow him while playing, but she doesn't want any part of it. Not even a friendly nip.
Lately we've been giving a loud, NO and if we're holding him, we put him on the floor and ignore him. Or I immediately direct his attention to a toy. I've also kept toys close by handy so I can put those in his hands instead of mine. This has actually slowed down the attacks in the past few days. The only time he gets reactivated is during zoomies, IF I present my hand to him.
When he's calm, he typically licks my hand and moves on. I'm hoping we can continue to improve from here forward because I don't need a cat that is 15lbs larger with bigger teeth acting this way in a few years from now.
EDIT: Just finished watching. Crazy that he's 2 and 1/2 months old in this video. That's right around where my furball is. It gives me hope, lol.
Got a new kitten this week and your videos have been super helpful . Thank you !
I've made a point never to play with hands and feet, but she still wont learn. I play with her at least 2 hours a day with a fishing rod/wand toy if jot more, but she's still playful all day because kitten brain. Heres a list of all the things ive tried for at least 2 days each consistently and saw zero progress with each one:
– ignoring her attacks so she gets bored and plays with something else (no effect on behavior)
– moving her off the surface in sitting on every time (she just thought it was a game so i stopped)
– picking her up when she did it and putting her in front of a toy to play with and often playing with it myself to show her what to do instead. (No effect. She jusy grabs at my hands whole i grab at the toy).
– wincing in pain and making a little noise when she hurt me and making a little hiss if she does it 3 times in a row (she initially seemed to respond to this but quickly stopped caring. The only success is that she tends to use less claws and bites softer at first, but that restraint never lasts long)
Is the only solution to quit my job and just play with her every hour shes awake? Everything ive tried has worked for some people and the redirection thing worked with my previous cat even when she was younger than this one is now.
I have never had a kitten so resistant to training and so dissatisfied with absolutely spoiling her. I feed her 4 times a day, play with her for hours at a time, keep her litterbox clean, let her have the run of the whole house without ever locking her anywhere, and make sure she has access to a water fountain. I pet her minimally when shes sleepy enough not to be agressive so as to not overstimulate her, and I as well as my house is really quiet and chill most of the time. She doesnt act like shes afraid or anything. Shes got her tail up high, she's talkative, purrs and cuddles when sleepy, and seems like she's super happy. I just dont know of a way to stop the biting that doesn't lead to her hating/fearing me or give her some kind of anxiety. (Please do not suggest getting another cat. Im heartbroken about my ex taking my previous cat and only took this one in because i found her dumped in a ditch and thought maybe I'd raise her myself instead of bringing her to the humane society. I cant afford to get another one at the moment and based on how she reacted to the super nice and well behaved vet cat, i think she's super territorial and scared of other cats. She also has my grandmas dog that she plays with and they seem to be doing pretty well together. They often sleep next to each other which i wouldn't expect if one feared or hated the other.
i have four kittens who are nine weeks, but fortunately they are all together and with their mother. she has taught them to be gentle. they occasionally pounce my feet but keep claws inside. having them grow up in their litter with mom is wonderful for them.
I found 3 kittens at work that were about 6 weeks old, the mom had slowed down their feeding and they were pretty skinny. Where we work there’s a huge busy street and on the other sides is nothing but houses with big dogs. I didn’t want anything to happen to the kittens so I started fostering them. They didn’t really have to be weened since they were so skinny they took too wet food instantly. They don’t have many problems with biting since they have each other and have learned to play together, but they do scratch my legs something fierce cause they like climbing up onto my lap. They started doing it cause I would wear sweat pants to work and it was cold so they wanted to be on my lap too sleep. I took them home to foster since we can regulate the temperature better than in a warehouse. They still run up my legs whenever I sit down lol it’s not so bad when I wear sweat pants but when I wear shorts my legs look like they been mauled by wolverine 🤣. I’ve been clipping their nails since day one but man they get sharp quickly and they don’t even scratch the boards I’ve provided. They don’t do it to scratch me but just to get up higher since they still don’t have those Jordan hops yet lol. Other than that they are pretty well socialized kittens. They spend most of their day playing together and I’ve spent hundreds on toys for them so they know how to play without getting too rough. Sometimes tho I just can’t resist getting in there and scratching a tummy or two but they never bite or claw me. They sorta just float their teeth without any force and they pull my hand in without their nails. I think they have a pretty good understanding of what is a toy and when they can go all out. As they get bigger tho I’ve started keeping my hands out of it except for one kitten that is just a weirdo so I’m keeping him lol. His names Smokey and I think he might see me as his mom 🤣. When they first started opening their eyes Smokey was the only one that had them crusted shut. It took a week of gently wiping his eyes with a warm soft towel and eventually his eyes stayed open and he could finally see the world 😁. I can only imagine that I actually might have been the first thing he saw and recognized that’s why he’s so attached to me. He always wants to be around me, whenever his litter mates sleep in their usual spot he’ll seek me out and lay in my lap. He’s the only one that lets me rub his tummy and he’ll just lay there enjoying it 🤣. Instead of going wild scratching and biting he doesn’t use his teeth or claws on me at all. When he gets mad he lets me know with a sharp little mew that’s when I know it’s time to back off. It’s just strange cause I’ve never had a kitten like this, even the other two litter mates aren’t like him. I try to handle them all so they get use to humans, makes them easier to adopt. They all don’t seem to mind but when the other two get into play mode I can’t really touch them cause they’ll maul my hand, but Smokey is just strange he knows when it’s me and knows to dial it back 90%. I’ve been around cats all my life, but I’ve never actually had one as a pet till now. I feel like he might be smart enough to learn tricks but I was wondering at what age should I start training him? As a kitten with short attention span is it worth doing it early?
We had this same issue, but with an adult cat (1 year, 7 months). We adopted her from a shelter where she was in a small community of cats (about 12) most of her life with limited human interaction. She was biting and chewing a lot; we could not pet her much. We realized that she didn’t know how to be a house cat or live with people. We took a very similar approach, and paid attention to her moods. After 2 months, she is settling into being a house cat and learning to like head rubs and occasionally pets. She even gives a head butt once in a while now, which we reward and celebrate! She is a beautiful cat and definitely worth the effort. Thanks for the advice over all these years!
I have a new kitten, 7-8 months, who is very cute. But he's a little demon. We got him 2 weeks ago. He will latch on, and just last night, he lept at my face and clawed my nose and upper lip. This is after 2 hours of play time. I do not use hands as a toy. Maybe whoever abandoned him used their hands. I hope this advice works!
My mom rescued a kitten from traffic. She’s our new baby. But I’ve never raised any baby animals!!! All my babies came to me as Big Babies 😭. So my kitty has this thing were he bites and while it’s cute now when he gets big I know it’ll hurt more AND will cause swelling bc I’m allergic to cats 😭😭 so I knew exactly who to turn to for advice THANK U JACKSON!!! ☺️☺️
My kitten is almost a month old and he does bite my hand. I try giving him toys but he finds my hand more interesting. Hope he stops
Please tell us about my girl kitty being active about 3am when I try to sleep
😂😂😂😂 my Kitty got me sooooo marked up she's on me constantly….I love it😻😻😻😻
Hi jackson i am Farah I need your suggestions
I have a cat name hazel she is spayed and 2 years old and aggressive touch me not type very moody princess.recently i have rescued a little charming female kitten age 2.5 months.
The problem is hazel is not accepting her how to get them along.I am so upset i really love both of my cats also giving extra attention to hazel so that she doesn't feel left out but whenever i take me little one close to her she hissed on her
The problem with my 6 months female cat is that she get annoying to play whit the same toy, so I change it often but them she want to run all over and I get tired before her! 😩so she learned when I said not is not. I realized that if she play for 15-20 minutes, she get happy and keep on play by herself (good!)) or she sitting close to me tosleep a little without miaowing anymore.
