what movies have you been watching???… been into d&d for 40 years and this is the 1st time i've seen an owl-bear coming to the big screen …please post a list would love to check out all of them
Displacer beast is def a higher challenge rating than Gelatinous Cube and you can get out on your own
The film is set in the Forgotten Realms. In the trailer, you seen them in (Neverwinter or Water deep; I forget which one) at the coliseum, where they encounter the Displacer Beast. The key villains are the Red Wizards of Thay and the Rogue played by Hugh Grant. The Horn of Orcus is what the group of thieves steals by accident and that’s where the chaos ensues. All of this was confirmed by John Francois Daley one of the writers/directors
People are over analyzing this too much with their "im a veteran player" goggles on. The whole vibe of the movie is the vibe you get when you run a campaign with friends, it doesnt always go epic or whatever lotr fantasy you have in mind and there will mostly be comedic moments because of the player character/personality interactions. Its also good to explain things to those who are not familiar with DnD, like the owlbear. You may know it and is trivial for you but for new people, its obviously new for them. Just showing people that youre not fun to play with if youre gonna act high and mighty like this.
Looks fun… Definitely would not want a "meta" themed movie.. sounds Cringe.. the film makers at ComicCon said the SpecialFX aren't done and the movie will be loaded with magic and special creatures. Also the Gelatinous cube scene, we don't know the context.. looks like they are in an arena, and likely don't have weapons, but while being attacked by the displacer beast they might see their only chance is to take weapons off the corpse inside the cube.. dunno…
Technically speaking, a displacer beast is CR3 and gelatinous cube is CR2, it is considered more dangerous in a by-the-book way. But I'd say diving into one and subjecting yourself to the acid engulf damage is worse than facing the mulit-attack of the bad kitty. On the other, other hand… if a monstrously large cat was trying to eat me I might dive into the goop in a panic and let future me solve the new problem.
They are clearly not making a dnd movie for dnd players. They are making a cheap dnd clone of guardians of the galaxy and it’s going to be cringe AF. Makes me sad. Why didn’t they just adapt a dragonlance novel? Why make a crap movie that isn’t targeted at your fan base?
You have to realize it's trying to bring D&D to people who have never experienced it. They can't just make the film for D&D players. As for the Owlbear, they are simply explaining it for a new audience. I didn't know what an owlbear was even though I played d&D way back in the 80's
I would say Chris Pine's Bard is rubbish at Nature checks. Be brilliant if it's a running joke.
It will be a good time fun & irreverent at the same time! All the while being faithful to the D&D lore!
I have druids all over Azeroth that would kill for an owlbear shapeshift form.
What do you mean “Not the most amazing D&D film you’ve seen in your life”? Is there a good D&D movie out there?
5e bards don't get bardic knowledge and might not know as much as you think
Tiefling druid is definitely using a cinematic version of wildshape.
I feel like the movie is meta on the level of "this absolutely feels like a game with the banter, things going wrong, and PCs doing unexpected, dangerous, and downright stupid shit".
I even admit to considering jumping into a gelatinous cube in one game. So yeah, I feel like this trailer lines up with a solid adaptation of the D&D experience.
There's a meta way to view the characters in the film. Chris Pine's player is a newbie. He's only ever played this character. The sorcerer is played by a veteran RPG nerd, and is explaining it to the newbie.
What I'd like to see is a movie (or even tv miniseries) based on the '80s Dungeons & Dragons cartoon show. Not something you'd see on the CW (never), more HBO on the PG13 side. Don't change the cast, hire actors who resemble their animated counterparts (Warwick Davis as Dungeon Master!) and develop their characters and stories from there.
Thanks for reading. Take care and watch out for dragons! 🐲
If homeboy is a paladin, he'd probably be an Oath Breaker paladin. And the movie is clearly set in the Forgotten Realms setting as a few of the individuals portrayed in the trailer are Red Wizards of Thay, who are evil as fuck!!!
The "bard" is wearing a Harper Pin sooooo, cloistered? not well travelled?
Not polymorph, shapeshift. She is likely a Druid. Gotta have strong independent women in modern woke world.
Then vin diesel come driving through the castle in the new hellcat with a jet engine in the back and says mi familia Straight Money Dude🤯🤯🤔🤔😂😂😂
Willing to have more meta in the movie, that already has a lot, is a very good idea for the movie to fail. You need the spirit on it, but appealing to a bigger chunk of public. General public doesn't know that gelatinous cube could have higher CR than a displacer beast (in fact I'd like my players didn't take that into account when facing an encounter). In my opinion it's a really great take on D&D and I hope the final product is as fun and enjoying as a D&D session, but without the preparation time I spend. Anyway nice review, new to the channel, I'll keep watching.
I know I'm going to see the movie but if there is no Critical Role Cameo, I'm going to be disappointed.
Looka like Guardians of the Galaxy with different clothes.
Maybe he's doing the forgotten memory thing? So he can learn with the audience?
Gelatinous cubes are undetectable if they aren't moving. Also we don't even know who jumped into the cube. And last, why would he have to know what owl bears are? Do you know every single animal that lives on this planet?
He knows nothing because he may have been Isekaid to D&D world.
Hey Ang u ever watch walking dead and after the show they have talking dead with Chris Hardwick. Matt Mercer ran a campaign with Chris Hardwick as one of the celebrity players lower level starter campaign and Chris just jump in the dungeon and fails his arcane check and just walks up to the wall and investigates and a trap activates and hits him for double his hit points and squished him 10 min into the games and since low level the one guy who was the cleric says I got this and cast revive and Matt as the DM says u can’t revive a puddle u need reviveafy and a diamond or 1000 gold and Chris Hardwick just gets up and walks off😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🥲🥹🥹
I hadn't realised there was a DnD movie being made so this trailer was a nice surprise and I really like what they showed.
For me it hit all the things I want in a DnD movie: there were Dungeons, Dragons (more than one and different types), they were going to a tavern, a lute playing Bard, an axe wielding Barbarian. wild shaping Druid, very unique DnD monsters (Mimic, Gelatinous Cube, Owlbear, Displacer Beast), the arena floor looked like it was a grid and it was fun. Plus the chonkiest dragon ever!
I can't wait until it comes out.
I think a film drawing from forgotten realms would have a larger impact. I've heard teasers of a Drizzt Saga film franchise for years. Then it supposed to be a possible streamed series.
What I really want to see (and these rumours go back 20 years) of an Elric Saga film series
Pretty sure they are doing the meta thing. I mean, the bard looked like a fighter at the begining.
I feel they once again missed the ball here. With the exception of the inclusion of different monsters, it looks to be the same type of movie as the last D&D movie from 2000. Can you imagine how well the first Lord of the Rings movie trailer would have been if it was set to an AC/DC song? There would Zero respect for it. I feel this is similar. They should have just focused on the fact that it's a live action movie set in one of the D&D settings, starting with the narration "This is Waterdeep, City of Splendors…" would have changed the tone immensely. Oh, well, I'm sure I'll see it at some point, but I'm far from being on pins and needles..
Also Ange looking 🔥🔥🔥 hot AF! 😉❤️❤️👊🥰🐶
Where is Vin Diesel tho 🤷♂️🤷♂️😂🥰🐶
I will go watch this movie! I think it should be fun! 🥰🐶 hopefully it do well and they can make more… to me it feel like they are doing a d and d version of jumunji movies 🤷♂️🥰
the lotr minis give me the giant elephants riders
U a good girl Angela! 🥰❤️🐶
Space dwarfs… GW ffs.
