Although its understandable why they made it PG-13, I think it would've been a good idea to keep the R-rated cut for the DVD release, therefore making both older and younger fans pleased. It would've helped them quit whining over the film rating.

The movie novelization has most of the cut content. A little different but it’s there. My theory is still that the book takes from earlier script versions too.
