Roberta Williams actually considers this her best game.
And I disagree with her. While it does have its charm, it probably helped cement the view that FMV games were campy, poorly acted and mostly just bad games (and let's be frank, most FMV games are campy, poorly acted and mostly just bad, with a few notable exceptions, including Sierra's own Gabriel Knight 2).
I can't believe you trashed it.
yeah.. I play it at 1995 with my Intel Pentium 1 PC + 7 original disc.
how expensive game at that time
I played both games as a 15/16 y/o kid back in the 90's and they both were really really good and unique gaming experience.
This game was prob one of my most badass child memories.
1st you dont look old enough to judge this game at present day, i hated all sierra games back in the day around 1993 because they had no sound effects and inventory was not in the main screen like kyrandia while others already implemented sounds well even in 1991, i consider phantasmagoria as the last well made DOS game in its own right, compared to return to zorg in 1993 which didnt have many frame rate and cutscenes, but phantasmagoria had the movie quality frame rate. the interaction with a player was much less, but still ok, looking around so many areas gave its own interaction with a player, and the cutscenes threw a lot of intense moments like movies, but probably unplayable for 2nd time.
not a very bright lady she talks before using her brain
this lady is one of the biggest idiots, this game is decent enough, for this lady to criticize other people for there opinion say's she's a hypocrite.
Stop looking at it at a 2024 lens. For 1996… groundbreaking. A history to be respected.
Will you review the second game of the series eventually?
Do you own the Saturn Version? All 8 discs?
Yep and it's still 10-15$ which is a big joke! I'll get it if it's like 2$, in 2024 surely it's not worth more than that.
Describing the acting and not mentioning Golden Globe winner Stella Stevens (died in feb 2023) as the antique shop owner Lou should be considered a crime^^
A college friend who played this with me described it as “like reading a book, but with pages that are really hard to turn.”
I played this – it taught me everything about treating a girl right!
…ehm.
It was quite the shocker game to the young me & pals 😀
This game even has a listing on IMDb with a 8.2 / 10 rating. November 2023
Actually this is a good game people are always knocking FMV and talking crap about them you know what if you don't like it then don't play it
I think it’s kind of unfair to judge this game almost 30 years later…playing it back then it was not only cutting edge but the scripting was really good…it’s just very dated unfortunately but no fault to its own..one of my absolute favorite FMV’s
This is one of the best games
i played it for a bit when it came out and i didn't even realize but i stopped playing it cuz it was toooo boring.
(apathetically) Oh, jee-eez
How is that not a meme?
I have an original Win '95 set that I'd now have to set up a dedicated Win '95 PC to run. Will consider.
I loved this game growing up
You're just young. That was one of the best PC games that ever come out back in the 90s being that it was a gruesome horror and full motion video was an amazing combination
There was a Saturn port that was only released in Japan. It is on eight discs, instead of seven. The graphics are much lower res than its PC counterpart…..definitely not worth it
I remember playing this when I was 17 years old I felt sick after the deaths
It wasnt banned in Australia at all, i remember when i came out around the same time as Hexen those Doom clones. It was 8 cd roms at the time which was huge, i had a friend that got it but it was more for adults so i wasnt interested in it. We didnt have game downloads then in 1995 just slow 28.8 kbps modems so you sure could buy it in Australia around 80 AUD then 150 USD in today price
