I would love to hear actual reasons people dislike this game. Not repeating what other reviewers have said. If you bought or rented the game, what are your thoughts on the main character, the combat, and the story. Saying I think it sucks because IGN gave it a 5 is the exact reason this video was made lol.
My only complaint was why couldn't I pick up the money then pick up the cat afterwards 😂
One of the main reasons why there are so many complaints is because of the expensive price of a game. Shouldn't be a $70 game. If it was $40, maybe there will be less backlash.
40 hours deep post story, which only gets better toward the end. Enjoying just exploring the world and finding all the mana and side activities. I have to say collecting mana is just as fun as collecting agility orbs in the original Crackdown, and I be zooming all around just enjoying the movement for hours on end.
Combat is an absolute blast, and I do not at all mind that sense of it being overwhelming, it is.. at first. But as you learn the different types of magic and familiarize yourself with their strengths and weaknesses, you steadily become a force of nature, similar to the [PROTOTYPE] games. And just like that game, great mobility, greater combat, story and design choices fumble at times, but fun is the goal, gameplay comes first.
Your focus determines your reality, and so many YouTube reviewers are just robots with poor focus whom all use the same words to describe the game, and some don't even make it past the tutorial.
Hey, you're wrong. Game sucks 🙂
This game is booty quit the 🧢
I give the game 7 just because the game's combat with magic is interesting and some parts grab your attention. But the story just feels like things where put in places just to push the story along with our making since like in the beginning she gets jumped and she barely gets away and the first thing she doesn't is too talk about what she going to do with the money. What I mean is just u found out that the person u wrong is looking for u and your first thought isn't to grab the money and the cat n leave. And when she when she sees a dragon makes sense to hide but u see a hearing beast you're first thought is that it's a dog.
Cuff, points out that there's something about the chaos spreading around them that seems almost…graceful.
"Destruction and corruption are forms of creation in themselves," he points out.
"Wow. You sound like a serial killer," Frey snaps.
"Uh. What?"
She repeats his words on destruction and corruption in a nasally, self-important tone, and Cuff objects before mocking Frey's voice in turn.
"You're fucking stupid," she responds.
The whole exchange made me wince, because Frey’s response felt bizarrely cruel in context. This 21-year-old woman character was making me feel very, very tired, and it was only halfway into a game that took me 16 hours to complete. At that point, I didn’t know how much longer I could take it.
1- Shitty writting: The dialogues are… My god, there's a reason why people hate Marvel's dialogues in their movies and it's because the world tries to take itself seriously but then the dialogues kick in, it can be mixed correctly but my god, both Marvel in their movies and Square Enix in this game went overboard. Also, no, this isn't comparable to other games with this kind of dialogue that are loved, because either they have a good mix between the tone of their worlds and the cringy dialogues or they don't take themselves seriously, making the dialogues feel like they fit properly.
2- Frey: This point ties in with the tone of the world and how it doesn't connect with either the dialogues or the character. Frey spends a lot of time complaining about how she doesn't wants to live in Athia and wants to go back to NY… Bitch, you are a criminal there, you don't have a house, money, a criminal gang is after you and you are one crime away to getting life sentence, and this bitching doesn't just happen early in the game, during late game she still wants to leave Athia, WTF? In the chapter before the last one she tries to out-trauma her friend whose dad just died in the hands of Frey and she doesn't give a fuck, she literally says it, all of Athia wants to take itself seriously except for Frey and Cuff, if the protagonist duo doesn't care about their lives or their world then why should I? Frey is a shitty little bitch that doesn't grow as a character at all.
3- The combat: The gameplay in general ranges from acceptable to good, traveling around the world feels nice and all but my god the enemies, they're not diffcult, in fact anyone with no experience with the type of game Forspoken is can set up the highest difficulty and not die a single time, why? Because the enemies in the highest difficulty are the same as if they were set in the easiest one, the only difference is the ammount of damage you receive and the damage they receive, in other words the enemies are "bullet" sponges, they don't pose a challenge at all, only test your patience, that's it and my god the lack of attacks the enemies have, a lot of bosses have the same attack patterns as their underlings, by the time you are fighting the bosses you have already enough experience to know the exact milisecond you need to attack, what attack is being set up and stuff like that.
4- The fire "rope": Once you spent enough time in the game you get to use an ability that's like a rope of fire you can use to travel some areas of the world easier, like the spider-webs from spider-man, my complain with this is… Why slow down the time? Why not just do it like Insomniac? The areas where you get to use this fire rope are limited, is not really that difficult, the player doesn't need to aim that hard at all, I don't get it. Oh, as an extra in this point, why we can't parkour in the city?
5- Athia, population density of 2 people every 4 square metters: Forspoken isn't a technical challenge at all, the quality of the graphics is poor, only select areas of the world look like a proper 2022 game and let's not speak about the character models. Back to the population density, while I understand that the main big city is the last bastion of humanity that has been devastated by all the chaos around it and at risk of extiction… THERE'S NO ONE IN THE CITY, the population density is ridiculously low, as I said before, this game isn't a technical challenge, why are there so few NPC's? The place feels empty as fuck (and yeah, the world aroumd the city also feels empty as fuck, but let's focus), my god, that population density is on par or even below of Assassin's Creed 1, I don't get it.
6- Performance: This is no surprise to anyone, since the DEMO we've been warned that this game was gonna be a technical mess, not a technical challenge no, a technical mess. I think you've already seen the specs for PC, they ask for a 4080 graphics card to run the game at 1440p 60 fps… Not 4K 60fps, not 1440p 120fps no, 1440p 60fps… WHAT?! And that's only for an Nvidia graphics card, I don't remember exactly what AMD graphics card they asked for this poor performance but it's a graphics card that has less power than a 4080, if the shitty DEMO wasn't enough to tell you this was gonna be an unoptimized shithole, this surely does, but hey, at least it's at 60fps right…? Right? Nah, the game at minimum settings without moving the camera barely passes the 50fps mark, once you start moving it pitches down all the way to the low 30's or even the high 20's and the resolution is dinamic so even if you have it set up at 1440p and your rig can run it or you run it on a PS5, it can go as down as 720p… Yeah and whoever says that it hasn't happenes to then, they're lying, there are a shit ton of tech reviews that go in-depth specially Digital Foundry that say the same thing I'm writting.
7- Ray-Tracing: This game promised ray-tracing, in fact there are multiple articles where Luminous (devs) said this game was going to be a technical marvel, the next step in graphics so this means it should have ray-tracing and in fact it does, but it's pretty poor, I dare you to test it, near the walls of inside of the city look for a high building that casts a shadow at the city walls with RT turned on and now… Look at the shadow, you can see that it's casted realistically enough to look natural, straight from the real world and now look up, as you keep looking up admiring the shadow being casted you can clearly see a "cut" in the shadow and then said shadow looks weird, your eyes are not deceiving you, it's not a bug or a glitch, that "cut" is where the ray-tracing is "turned off", in other words the ray-tracing is not global ilumination ray-tracing but a ray-tracing thatbonly has effect near the player, like 15 meters or so.
8- The AI: I'm not gonna elaborate in this one because it's self explanatory, the enemy AI is more A than I, most of the enemies wait for you to attack them in order for them to attack you, in stealth missions you can't fail those missions, the only way you can fail them is by intentionally getting caught, the AI is so dumb that you can be hiding bebind a single box the enemy can be at the other side, he can clearly see you but at the sane time doesn't… To get caught you almost need to run directly at the enemies whike they are looking in the direction you are coming from.
9- Unnecesary perks: The "nail polish" as I like to call it is an unnecesary perk, as I explained above the game is not difficult at all, you don't need all the perks to easily complete the game, whoever has already finished the game with all the perks before finishing the story I dare you to start another session and just go "nude", go through the story with the basic equipment, of course you can unlock and use new spells but any kind of extra perk just don't use it and you'll see those perks are meaningless.
Overall the game is a mess, unless you are a full commited completionist I don't recommend this game at all, I barely place it between a 5 or 6 out of 10. The voice acting of the protagonist is really bad, it shows that it's the first character the actress voices and Inhighly recommend her to fire her agent and either pick a popular one in the industry of hollywood and/or games or that she does that job herself because for those of you who don't recognize this actress that voices Frey and is the mo-cap for the character, she was in that Netflix Resident Evil TV Show as one of the sisters and she also was in anither movie or show that flopped really hard so yeah, this actress is salty as fuck, I can only feel bad for her.
There's a trick to let the game play by "itself" during combat, I don't exactly how it is done but you need to dash/dodge and quickly attack, spam that combo as quickly as possible at a steady rythm while circling aroun the enemy you have your aim locked on, and no, you won't receive damage while doing this no matter what the enemy does, in fact, you can literally corner yourself and it still works, if this doesn't scream bad game design, IDK what it is then.
*sigh….."i really didn't wanna make this video….."
Yeah I love the game really awesome experience the gameplay was so interesting and the story was really good I like Freys and cuffs banter and the twist was very well hidden
I think the masses are racially profiling the game too. Look at one of their complaints "too much open world just to spam parkour" like are you fukkin kidding me!? This game is fukkin dope. They eat dirt lol
I haven't played this aside from the demo. I personally thought the demo showed a ton of variation to gameplay. Also, I only judge this game by what I have seen and heard and NOT what reviewers keep repeating. When I watch high level gameplay clips of this game it looks amazing! It literally speaks for itself. Every reviewer shows the same two clips and doesn't offer any critical analysis. Basically, game reviews don't have real jobs and can phone it in all the time. I had no idea the TouchPad could switch spell trees and make attacks absolutely stunning each and every encounter. This combat looks awe-inspiring to me.
I agree the reviews about this game are way off. The game isn't great but its above average. My guess is most of the reviewers rushed through the game and you won't enjoy this if you rush, the exploration is the best part. Every review I have seen from people who 100% the game was positive.
The part about her being unrelated has to do with the way she talks to the people in the town. She is very rude and mean even when they go out of their way to help her. I won't make any spoilers but Auden bends over backwards to do favors for Frey and Frey still tells her off. When someone shows you kindness, you shouldn't be mean and rude in return. That makes you unlikable.
Yep I knew they was hating from the jump this game go hard
I've got about 15 hrs in and it's not a bad as most reviews make it sound. The combat and exploration are so much fun. I'm enjoying this game so judge for yourselves.
I played and beat the game. I got about 60 hours in. Its fun. The voice acting is good overall. The beginning feels off to me but after that its all good. The combat is fun, I liked that you can mix up your spells on the fly. Also, people saying she isn't relatable is some bullshit people are spewing garbage from riding the hate train. They can't relate because they have never had to struggle growing up or even right now.
I've zero performance issues with the game as well but I got a decent rig that I'm playing on.
What I don't like is how they written her character. If I was in her position, I will not complain being stuck in a strange land and have magical powers.
Limited open-world, basic gameplay that felt like another inFamous game but with less flexibility. And yes i'm gonna bring up what every other reviewers brought to in this game, that is the horrible dialogue that just makes me wanna turn the game off immediately. This is not a bad game in general, this is just a generic magic shooter game with cringe stuff. At least that's how i see it.
I felt the same way about Callisto Protocol. I l loved every second of it. If all these reviewers and streamers keep shitting on games an preventing people from trying them. We’ll have nothing but indie roguelikes.
It's just reviewers mad they didn't get thet little code to grab it early
$70 price like for a AAA game but this one feelssometimes not even like AA one (should be max $40), very bad optimization for PC and ps5, lots of bugs/stutters/crashes, stupid and predictable plot, very weak dialogues, repetitive and very simple fights, very poorly written characters, map covered in markers. movement and combat worse than infamous, story/graphics/world design worse than The Witcher 3. Better buy these two games and still have something left of the $70. overal score 5/10
P.S. I'm glad that i bought it on disk so i can return it
The only thing I can’t relate to as a white guy is why she wants to go home and not stay in a world with fucking magic
That is all
What confuses me is people keep using the scene where she first uses her powers as bad writing
But it gits her character
Up till that point her life has been kinda mundane, if sad
NOW she can shoot rovks from her hands!
Thats a big step and what she says fits her character
In addition her reluctance to help makes sense
Shes scared
And its shown early that when stuff goes bad (especially stuff she blames herself for) she runs
Shes just going back to plan a
Plus it was shown how she mourned the fact she had to kill tanta sila
And these people are demanding she kill again
To her they just want her to be their assassin
But in reality she gives them hope they are just exited they have a chance to NOT DIE soon
