So what about the sequel, Tears of the Kingdom? Here's how Nintendo designed the incredible new mechanic, Ultrahand – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvOqTunOQB8
They didn't
It's corny to see how Zelda uses all the things ubisoft does in open worlds but everyone praises Zelda for it while attacking ubisoft for it. Zelda legit copied tons of features and mechanics from assassins creed and far cry. Wild seeing how much praise the open world gets. Lmao
"Shadow of the Colossus" did it first and did it better!
turn on v-sync
Would love to hear your comparison on this topic with Valheim
I miss playing BOTW so much. I rmember when King Rhoam told me that I had to save this Kingdom I dedicated to myself, don’t worry, I will make sure Calamity Ganon never sees himself take this world.
Breath of the wild. Nintendos first open world game? Lol who remembers xenoblade x? I shure do. And before you say that was monolith soft. They were also hired to make breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom.
To sum up everything basically Nintendo wanted to make a organic world of which adventuring is equivalent of traveling to a new country for a few days. were you visit important land marks with nearly no limit to "wasted time" allowing possibility to walk to any wear on the map plus small check points that can reward you with a more organic reward.
The game is recommending you save the world. No pressure though
When is started on the great plateau I was no joke disappointed by how small the map was because I thought it was just the plateau and the giant volcano in the distance was just background scenery “That’s cool”” it though “But you probably don’t get to go there” this was my first Zelda I was frankly blown away when I got into it. Also the triangle thing! That’s just so true now that I think about it!
Solved how ? With a world filled with nothing more than shrines ? Super empty and boring.
It's a shame that the only thing they got correct was direction. Everything lese makes you want the old game back.
Breath of the Wild aka the walking simulator… one of the most boring games i have ever played.
Ever since I was a little child, I've been fascinated by artistic maps, and landscape paintings with hills and valleys continuing way off in the distance. They would just get my imagination running, and have me wanting to go see what's behind that last fog shrouded hill you can barely see. Breath of the Wild tickles this exact part of my brain, and it makes me just happy playing the game. Just a constant stream of "ooh that's pretty, hey what's that over there?"
towers, isnt that what ubi uses?
Solved? BoTW is as boring as doing my chores, and the DLC (ToTK) is way worse. Nintendo should drop this format and come back to classic Zelda.
I'm getting too old and i don't have enough time to spend 300 hours playing a game. Give me a great story that builds on itself and clear paths to follow. TOTK none of the side quests were able to build on each other so i watched the same cut scene 5 times. Not great story telling. If you ask me
TotK was one of the worst games I ever played 😀 The world wasnt changing – it was so unrealistc and only work
TRANGLES
The result: Ganon becomes the best buddy, and real players forget how princess Zelda looks like
I only just got a switch and played BOTW in 2024 with no guide, spoilers or anything. Your video explains why it was such an addictive adventure. As a person who doesn't mind grinding, it just gave me more and more reason to play 2-4 hours per day. What a legend of a game.
How could have been a challenge when literally every open world game preceding it did the same thing flawlessly. You dunce.
A great summary
i LOVE THIS GAME !!! You don't even know how much I would like this game to be available on Steam !!
nearly every zelda game has been open world, botw was not the first one
My ass wind bombing directly to sheikha towers 😂
Breath of the Wild is a garbage game
Nintendo did open world better than anyone else with the eight bit system Zelda and better than anyone else with the drastically underpowered compared to the other gaming systems switch. Skyrim isn’t even as close to as fun and interesting as breath of the wild was. I just wish they could’ve made tears of the kingdom something a little more original.
This video opened my eyes
They pushed the limits of the switch. Such a great game on a great system. I love it when people like Nintendo prove that great games can be made without always trying to push GPU limits. The games still look great.
Life feels predetermined in a similar way. You feel like you have free will but you ultimately end up where you're supposed to be anyway.
I’ve spoken to some other devs about this, and we still can’t get over the durability of item’s design choice. I hate it. It really takes away from the joy of the game. I’d so much rather spend time playing other Zelda games.
this game is SOOOOOO good. one of the best ever. can't wait to play tears of the kingdom…. i have it, just don't have time just yet…
Now I realize why I hate this game. It's all fucking mountains!
Honestly thats what i hated about tears of the kingdom. To many mountains. Until you got the bike you either had to walk around or climb. Both took up way to much time.
Still the best open world game to date, really interesting video, kudos.
I appreciate the video but this is literally just saying "Nintendo discovered how to make an open world game by using design tricks that other open world games use"
How was Zelda 1 on the NES not an open-world game? In fact all the NES and SNES and GB versions I played in the 80's and 90's were all open world. How can you say BOTW is the Nintendo's open world game? Honestly I don't like being rude but wtf?
Botw was revolutionary for Nintendo and I can’t wait to see the future of open world games from Nintendo!
Thumbnail looks like Link says "Glory to and long live Palestine, her people, and her brave resistance"
Make the game so boring you can’t be bothered to finish it? 🤔
i was always innterested on topic of how nintendo games are tested/playtested, what are those people and where are they from. because imagine giving the game to the same group over and over again there is high possibilitz that the outcome of the result will not be as company is expect to do
Both games are mid they didn't solve anything.
Pretty boring Zelda tbh.
It still boggles my mind that this game was made. ToTK is a pretty good game, but it shows how easy it is to mess up. BoTW is perfection!
Nintendo’s solution to making an open world game fun: putting more things in the game for people to do
My first main quest was at zora's domain it's like a magnet
Nintendo is just following everyone else. You make your own game, then make your own rules
