Some cats don't like certain treats.
insightful tysm!
A kitten i’m caring for goes crazy over the liquid treats. I’m keeping them for nail clipping training 😌
👍
Don’t work .
We had a cat years ago that responded to my whistle, discovered by accident. Now, I am teaching my newer cat to respond to this. I barely CAN whistle, but they hear it. The older cat was funny, since the more I continued to whistle, the closer she came as if by magnet.
I was lucky enough to have my last cat 'imhotep', (or ho ho,as we called him) for 19yrs, I now have a little tuxedo female, her name is Gravy and it was her name when I got her
Oh my god I found the treats that work! I posted on a previous video about how I tried at least 100 different ones… I went back to that bag of denied treats… maybe she was full. All the other times. I do free feed her and I just tried before she ate her “dinner”. I am learning a lot. And I thought I knew a lot 😭
My kitten is very skittish. He’s so traumatized by his past owner and would be so scared to even eat/drink specially when you get even a bit close to him. Jackpot treat churu helped me so much and now he’s slowly getting better ❤
Thank you so much for your videos. I want to register my cat bear as an emotional sport pet for myself. This will enrich both our lives. With that I know there is some training that she needs further than I know how to do on my own, like leash training And introducing her to other animals and people and your videos will be a huge help in that.
Hey Jackson I hope you are well! I really enjoy your informative educational videos. Would you send me a link to your video regarding how to get a cat to wear a harness and how to get your cat to like her carryer? I have a very feisty 3-year-old torty Kat! I live on the second floor of a condominium and I would like to take my Maggie out on the balcony with me. And also reduce the stress she goes through and we go through to get her in the carrier for her visits to the vet. Thanks a bunch. Have a great day. Hope to hear from you soon. Cya!😎😺💖
My cat doesn't like treats so I use little pieces of cheese and chicken.
is it ok to "free feed" my cat if she's 18 and doesn't always have the energy for my shenanigans?
I free feed my kitty. Shes 6 lbs/ 4 yrs old. Shes a long and lean play machine. She eats small smidgens throughout the day. Ive always kept about 1-2 teaspoons of canned on a dish that gets replenished during the day. Then also small dish of kibble. She rejects all treats unless its some fresh shredded boiled chicken She is an Oriental Shorthair mixed with domestic shorthair.
I live with a former feral male cat named Charlie. We do lots of treat training. Especially when it comes to nail clipping time. At first it was baby steps. Getting him to accept the nail scissors without freaking out. Then clipping one nail and giving him a treat. Building up to longer sessions. Some days are better than others. I have to set the container on the side table and place the scissors on top before inviting him onto my lap. So, he is reminded scissors equals treats. Still if he gets anxious I stop give him a treat and we take a break. I don't know who or how he was traumatized in his former life, but he obviously was. At first just the sight of the nail scissors freaked him out and he would attack them. He still gets anxious sometimes around them, but I just go slow and we take breaks if he needs them. He gets treats for letting the scissors near his paws and for every claw I trim. Some days I can clip all of them no problem and others it's back to one or two at a time. I wish I knew who traumatized him. I would definitely give them a piece of my mind. When just the sight of nail scissors freaks a cat out. Something happened. At least now they are a.benign implement. He only gets anxious when I get them near his paw and extend his claw. I calmly snip quickly and then he gets a treat. Sometimes he lets me trim them all before getting too anxious and then he gets the treats all at once and other days it's one or two claws at a time. He only gets treats after I snip. I have had Charlie 6 years and claw trimming has been his biggest issue. Thankfully in warm weather he is outside a lot in the yard more and wears them down and doesn't need them trimmed as often or only a few claws. I am glad it's slowly warming up again.
Pretty sure every treat is a jackpot treat for my kitty. 😮💨
How can you use this to make a positive association with nail trimming? Do you trim, then treat?
I agree. Bribery can be great
My cats have always come when called and very obedient …. I showed my partner my training method (clicker/treats) he said I was cheating… ummm no I'm just smart.
My boy is free fed but he actually only goes over twice daiky and eats .. i give him one wet treat per day .. and hes a healthy happy boy .. hes not fat . He just doesn't care to go pig out several times a day
Moderation is a good point yet there was an image of two cats feeding from bowls with an outrageous dog-sized portion that filled up the bowls! And it was shown more than once.
1:56 jojo battle scene… dang which fight was that. edit: Illuso
I'd be interested to know what kind of treats you recommend while I'm transitioning my cats from mixed wet/dry food to only wet. My male is on urinary food and the only treats they make are dry. I once offered them freeze-dried food and they ignored it.
You’re the expert but giving treats in the middle of bullying to divert their attention seems like rewarding bad behavior. I guess the key would be to give the treat as soon as it starts or just before.
just watched your video about giving cats treats in a treat toy, and the merits of it, so am confused that this video title says don’t give treats.
How do you stop cats from attacking you when trying to give them treats?? For example the second I hand them the treat the grab me with the claws and aggressively takes the food from me :/
I had no idea you made these videos, bravo 👏, you really are amazing to share these videos and help us less educated pet owners. I am deployed and going home soon. To the cat I started to bond with because my brother abandoned him. My concern is he won’t want to deal with me when I get home. He hasn’t bonded with either of my parents either while I’ve been gone. Can you give me a way to show him he can trust me?
I disagree that free feeding cause cat to be fat(based on several cats i had during the lifetime), only in case of low quality food, then its is certainly truth, and the poop stinks much more too. If you feed the best quality possible food, cat does not go overboard, they just nibble little by little during the day.
I have a cat who sucks down food so fast that she vomits it right back up. But when I free feed, she doesn't get that panicky, desperate response. She just nibbles a little and knows it will still be there when she is ready for more. So, my bedroom is the free feeding room. I keep my door closed most of the time. Two of my cats will just vacuum the bowl. They get fed in the kitchen and go outside afterwards. Then the other two can do their free feeding thing all day. Every cat is different Jackson!
I would love some home made cat treats recipes.
Only after a trick or keeping them from being bad. I've used a spray bottle and treats. Believe me. Treats work better!!!!!
I ‘free feed’ my cats,I’ve always done that and I’ve never had fat cats🤷🏻♀️
I give them ‘wet food’ or meat twice a day only, but the dry food is always in the food bowl so he can eat if he’s hungry inbetween meals. All the cats I’ve had has been fed like this and none of them has been fat and they’ve never been eating all the dry food at once just because it is there.
I guess we all find different things that works for our cats😊
Mr Galaxy is correct about breaking treats into pieces. After all, the kitty doesn't know that it is not getting a whole treat! The treats will go farther that way AND be low-cal for the waistline.
I knew I found someday, find something I don’t agree with lol. Cats get fat for lack of appropriate environment for them to exercise. My cats are free fed dry food. It’s a great quality one and they actually eat very little of it. I feed them with wet food with meat twice a day every around 12h. Their treats I do offer as a mom who spoil her kids lol. One cat doesn’t care much about wet food and I offer her some treats while the other two are getting wet food, but once in a while she eats it too. But otherwise, I also use treats for similar reasons as you, but not for high fives… But I need to spoil them a lot less… Oh! My cats aren’t fat, I actually am always worried about them gaining weight lol. They are very healthy too.
Whenever I need to bring a new friend over who might be staying with me for a few days I tell them. "Don't trim your nails" and its always such a weird statement but the second they enter. After I have them feed my cat their meal and we sit on the floor. The scritchies are where they are at. I can't tolerate long nails, but most of my friends can.
I give my cat a treat once a day when he responds to his name. Now its every other day.
Hi. What about freeze dried raw food for a cats meals?
Jackson how do I 'resist' my cat? She knows where we keep treats for her and she would sit next that plac and look at me directly in the eyes, sometimes this lasts for two hours. She's locked in at me and meows untill I aproch her and then she turns towards the treats. I can promise you she gets more than enough of them, but she ALWAYS wants more, I'm afraid to let her eat until she 'can't' eat anymore, literally never done that in two and a half years since we're together. She is not fat at all, she has about 4k and she's 2 and a half years old. How do I let her know politely that she has had more than enough?
@Jackson, I have 2 cats that are 13. I portion out their meals so they get the calories they need. I have tried to get them to eat their full wet food meals at breakfast and dinner, but they don't eat it all. They prefer to snack on it all day. I should mention that I adopted them a year ago, and Delilah has IBD or small cell lymphoma, and I didn't want to put her through a biopsy, so I'm treating for both with steroids and hydrolyzed protein wet and dry. So, she needs to eat all her wet food with the steroid in it, and it takes her all day. The food is very gelatinous. She ends up licking the bowl clean, but it's like free feeding as she has it to snack on all day. Delilah is the mojito cat. I should also say that the previous owners only fed dry food, so I think it's an accomplishment to get them to eat mainly wet food. Her brother Samson is overweight, and he also takes the day to eat his wet food. He is a wallflower bush dweller. I give them both 2 tablespoons of dry food to get them to the calorie count my vet recommended since they take so long to eat the wet food, and Samson 😻's his dry food. I usually feed them the dry after interacting with Samson, who is so shy, to reward him for the interaction. They are a Maine Coon Ragdoll mix, and Delilah is more Ragdoll, while Samson is more Maine Coon. How does this situation fit with your recommendation about free feeding? Thanks, Taletha, Samson, and Delilah
p.s. all of our names are in the Bible. My name is from a little girl Jesus brought back from the dead, but few know of it cuz the men got all the attention in the Bible, i.e., Lazarus. I am not religious, but name history is important)
I have 2 baby kittens, 10 weeks old that I feed wet kitten food 4 times a day, and free-feed them kibble. Is that ok for kittens? I’ve been told and have read that they need much more nutrition and to feed them as much as they’ll eat and they run and play almost all day so I don’t fear them getting fat. And was planning on stopping the free-feeding once they’re a little older.
Hey man! I know this video is 2 years old, but im currently binging on your videos on YouTube. I've also watched my cat from hell, but I like the YouTube videos much more. I feel they are more informative. I am currently a new cat owner of a tortoise shell domestic short hair, and learning all your tips, and tricks! I also own a rabbit. I've had her before I brought the cat here. I'm currently trying to bond them, and it seems to be going good, but the cat still has the tendency of wanting to pounce, and I guess "dominate?" where as my rabbit just literally freezes and wonders what just happened to her. She is still a kitten at 5½ months, and I do my best to play with before I let my rabbit free roam but after I do, she still has the energy to run after her when my rabbit wants to do zoomies and binkies. my question is do you have any tips on trying to prevent her from wanting to pounce/chase her when she does her zoomies? sorry about the paragraph! thanks in advance if you see this!
p.s. I love your videos!
