Should Sonic Frontiers Get A Re Review After Update 3?

Bro said the game will be completely changed by update 3 but I think this game has already earned a new reputation ever since update 2 came out. Kishimoto has literally listened to his fans almost every request and you can see the passion he is pouring into it. I think this game is already much better than at launch, even though I personally always loved it

I wonder if they made New Game Plus for this update 3 alone. Like I don’t really wanna play the game again from the ground up after fully 100% it so is new game plus so I’m thinking that they released it now 1 for the speedrunning community and 2 to let players experience the new ending

I kinda hope the End boss fight currently in the game is still playable in some form, but definitely not as a final boss fight.

No Man's Sky, Final Fantasy 14, and now Sonic Frontiers… all games that people thought were mediocre at launch, all games that were majorly narratively and mechanically reworked post launch.

I bet update 3 will be available at november 23 or december 23 as the past two also released on the number 23

A lot of people are saying that it shouldn’t because we shouldn’t be providing to the “release it unfinished and update it later” trend of the industry but I also think it’s not quite that simple? They didn’t have much choice but to release it in the state they had, and even modified it to be as best suited to the state it was in. It was definitely done with good intentions this time, especially given the scale to which it’s been and is still being updated. I haven’t seen a game with updates so we’ll informed by the wants of the community surrounding it, and that’s to say nothing of the fact they’re… finishing the game, not merely “making it functional” like so many other instances of completing the game post-launch. The game was already functional, more than any other incomplete-at-launch game. They’re actually completing the experience.

Id like to see it re-reviewed once the time comes, but definitely with caution and respect to the fact that yes, the game was incomplete at launch, but I think if any game does deserve the chance it’s this one.

As (probably) the only non-sonic fanboy at this video, I’d say that the dlc isn’t as big of a deal for most people. If anything, the dlc should be reviewed separately. I think you care a little too much about the game’s metascore. If you personally enjoy the game, that’s awesome, but sonic frontiers just isn’t most people’s cup of tea.

What I really hope is to have co-op support with the addition of playable characters but it probably won’t happen

No, it shouldnt, there are a lot of games (mainly stuff like no man's sky and sea of thieves) that have been years adding content and don't get a re review and I don't see why sonic would have special treatment.

Now imagine this the next sonic game will be better than frontiers I'm saying it may win an a award at the game awards but I hope I'm not jinxing it though 😅

The xenoblade games do have a very similar dlc that frontiers is getting and the xenoblade games don't get re review so the answer is no more likely

I personally think update 3 will release around the same time as sonic superstars which is around like mid October, but it could also release around November

If they have campaigns I will rate this much higher than I rated it this update might change it I'm so hyped for it I can't wait to see of we can get our own skill tree this game is getting better and I love it also I want to play as tails on the islands I cant wait to see the new super forms Im so hyped for it I also think it's probably November for its release

I'm gonna be honest.. I don't think a re-review would change anything. It'd probably turn out worse tbh. We just expereienced Tears of the kingdom which not only was a sequel to a game people regarded highly, but it also improved on it DRASTICLY to the point people feel they can't go back to BOTW. While the updates fix the core issue's of hardcore fan's, I don't think it really touches upon the downsides from the general audience perspective. The islands themselves are kind of boring, pop in is still a thing, the camera can still be wonky as all hell and break the flow of combat. Sure there's momentum by changing the setting's but that would probably make it worse in their eyes due to platforming being more finicky and sonic launching off things more often. And while the story is better then alot of the recent stories… It just falls flat at the part's where it should be hitting you. So many people broke into laughter during the sage flashback sequence rather than feeling sympathetic. And some of those moments that show eggmans change of view are behind fishing and purchasing those dialogue's.

Not to mention how bland the cyberstages are… They definitely feel better between momentum, and the spindash. But apart from that most of the stages they mimick just don't have the same pizzas as their originals or remakes. It becomes even more painfully obvious when the themes overlap when you have cyberstage greenhill competing against modern greenhills from generations… I remember playing it and thinking "man I just wanna play generations their version was so much better."

I'd definitely push sonic frontiers up to a 8-8.5 due to the updates. I'm not sure I'd ever give it a nine as much as I love it because my love is inspite of it's massive list of flaws. I love the open zone aspect itself and it makes sense. And the cyberstages play into the boost formula decently enough even if it's basicly just "generations at home." to me. Exploring the islands is rather chill, and the combat is fun. It's not some riveting experience where I'm thinking things through and having some skilled deathmatch but it's decent. A large part of what bring it's score up is the titan fights. The first three are absolutely spectacular while the last two fights are kinda… "eh" to me. update three has the potential to fix that. but it's not like all my other issue's will just disappear even if they do.

It's a flawed game that feels like it has a lot of great idea's and i'm glad they are taking these updates as a way to test things out for the next game by gauging the reaction and commiting to the next game. That being said I feel like a lot of it's core issue's still exist and can't be addressed due to it's nature and most of them being on a foundational level.

If my assumption were correct and the updates were mostly content left on the cutting room floor to keep up with Sega’s release schedule then yes after update 3 the game should get another review

I also haven't read the leaked script, but, I do know that files for the original 4th island were found in the files, and it was intended to be the Ancients' "world ship" that we see in the Rhea island cutscenes! So that could potentially be what Update 3 adds.

God, I hope they don't just re write the ending. Don't get me wrong, I think they should fix the final boss, but as far as a re write, they should not go in that direction. I have a little fan idea for the story. So at the end of the game, Sage comes back. But she is corrupted, and Eggman needs Tails help to save her, and Tails with Amy and Knuckles just work together to save her. I see it being mainly Tails story, but that is something I like to see, not a simple rewrite.
