I have a senior wallflower that has confined herself to our spare room and I can’t figure her out. I’ve have tried play and food motivating her or brushing her because she loves that. But nothing seems to work. I can’t find anything that she wants to play with and I can’t find anything to food motivate her. Idk what to do at this point. We have another cat and she’s a mojo cat. She loves everything. My wallflower won’t play with our other cat but if she’s calm she’s fine. I’ve tried locking her out of the spare room but she just meows constantly and poops herself if something scares her.
@JacksonGalaxy sorry if this has already been asked- but how does having a multi-cat household play in to building a wallflower cat's confidence? Does one cat modeling good behavior help the other? I adopted Scuti as a 4 month old stray kitten, and although he's still a little wary of new people, he has grown into a young man with TONS of confidence and mojo! Just recently, we've also adopted Snugglesworth, a 5 year old shelter cat who has been in and out of a couple homes. While not a complete wallflower, Snugglesworth is comparatively much more shy and reserved. The two became fast friends (despite being the younger of the two, Scuti has shown an INCREDIBLY caring side of himself! Its been amazing to watch!) and I'm wondering if there is a way Scuti can play a role in our work to help Snugglesworth shed some anxiety and rebuild his confidence.
How do I get, a very tortylitious tortie,, Pizza, to stop pickin on a shy, sweet, calico wall flower, Lilo, (who's actually twise as big as the tortie)? Pizza is 7 years old and has being with us since she was about two months old. Lilo and her brother, Stitch, were born in our backyard, 4 years ago and we adopted them. Their mother was a very friendly feral, who refused to get in the house, because of Pizza, the witchy tortie. Besides Pizza, Lilo and Stitch, we have Luxor, a 14 or 15 years old we rescued, 7 years ago, from the streat, after he was badly abused and sick and scared of his own shadow. Tho he's still easily scared, and keeps mostly inside a closset, he has come out of his cocoon and loves cudling and being brushd and asking for rubs.
Pizza is ok with both males, it's only Lilo she's really mean to. She attacks her on every oportunity she has, Lilo just runs away or hides. I'm afraid that Lilo will someday understand that she's twise as big as Pizza, and fight back. With us Pizza is loving and cudly, on her own terms.
I love your videos and advice. I've learnt so much from you.
Can i just say i love that Jackson names his plushies too. Shere khan — hehe.
Tim is a wallflower 🥺
But i am so proud of him for every step he makes in the right direction.
My cat always dominates her sister. I am very worried for her – she is shy and doesn’t even want to play when her sister is near.
I feel like my cat can be a mojito most of the times but a wallflower at times as well, specially for an hour or so when some one new comes to our house. But he eventually comes out of hiding and starts to socialize. So i always thought that's natural. Should I be worried?
There is more to wallflowers than being scared, though. They are frustrated easily, bored by stuff mojito cats play with for months, they PLAY differently. I think they are what we call HSP in humans, which is a hardwiring. Every brain blends out millions of stimuli each day, HSP brains blend out much less than normal ones. So they are in a state of constant sensory overload, when other people are just fine. JG shows that in a video about playing, mojito cats chase the feathers, wallflower notices the feathers, the line they are attached to, the stick, and the hand. What to chase? My wallflowers always did, and still do best, playing with single unattached items of interesting shapes. Treat dispensers everyone likes, of course. But objects like plug protectors, weirdly shaped sticks, etc rarely get boring, while anything attached to a line, or stick is frustrating, and with that boring, really fast. Just my experiences… 😉
Jackson out here dissecting graffiti culture in his pass time 😂
My new kitty will not run after toys can maybe get a little swat and she runs into the corner behind the cat tree every time u enter the room but will play a little when left alone
What if your cat won’t even play?
Hahahah the kitten on the back of the bus 😂 this was so helpful. My kitty so scared of my new apartment
Just adopted two precious black cat brothers from what I am told was a traumatising 8 weeks in the shelter. They are absolutely withdrawn and huddled in their cage. Just bought a couple of wands so hopefully they'll build their confidence!
My kitten is a wallflower to everyone but me
I adopted a cat 2 weeks ago, and he really fits the term wallflower. He's such a cutie, he already imprinted on my and is always by my side.
The adoption centre found him outside, god knows what he's been through, but it seems to really have traumatized him, because as soon as something loud makes noise, he runs aways and hides.
He's slowly getting used to the sounds i'm making, for example doing the dishes, toilet flush, etc. but he still gets scared super fast.
I have yet to watch the video, but I will do my best to get his confidence up : )
Damn I needed this video! I have three cats that seem to be the exact combo of these three archetypes and am currently really trying to minimise the conflict between my Wallflower and Napoleon cats and get them to co-exist peacefully😭
I am so incredibly happy i have come across your video.
I have a scaredy wallflower. Every single thing js scary for her and she has many hiding spots.
I have always read to create multiple comfortable hiding places for when she hides, but she doesnt do anything but hide now.
I feel like ive created this scared girl and i really feel bad. But so ready to put the work in
This is easier said than done. Also, it's not as dangerous as you say in most cases. Many stuff at home are easily movable. It is also good for them to have a place to hide sometimes. I think the most important thing is to know your cat's tendencies and watch out those places. As far as I can see, the most dangerous things are the doors. Never close them too fast. Also, chairs with wheels.
Truly cat proofing a house would take thousands of dollars and removing every human that is not a cat expert.
Oh before I forget, windows and the balcony… Also the apartment door. These are more immediate dangers… Than "unders"
I am in need of help. My cat has been trapped in a room for over a year. The sibling is adapting to new open space, wonderfully. But my calico, is terrified of a ceiling fan…and now will not leave the room.
She will meow, and play in the space, but she wont leave the room, at all. How do I help her?
Well my lovely adopted feral shelter cat went from a wallflower to a Napoleon. My previous cat was a mojito, so its an adjustment. But I think I prefer the Napoleon to the wallflower? At least he's claiming territory and owning his space? He does overdo it though and it is because of insecurity for sure. I've watched a ton of these videos and followed the advice and yes it does work wonders, its amazing how far this cat has come. My dream for him is to bring out more and more of his inner mojito. I see glimpses, I always believe its possible for him.
My cat is ABSOLUTELY afraid of children, the 3 times my sister have visited my apartment with her 4 year old daughter, my cat will yowl, run around the apartment and finally hide either under the bed or behind the couch. My niece is not being aggressive or anything, my sister has taught her how to approach a cat and how to pet them, and to leave them be if they seem scared (and they have a cat too) but still my cat is very afraid of her 😟 my cat was apparently found living in abandoned house with punch of other cats when she was a kitten, I adopted her when she was about 10 months old. I'm guessing she has actually never seen a child and that's why she's so afraid of them. She also doesn't like if there are more than 2 people in my apartment (except if they are people she has seen many times) and it will take her about a month to trust some new person, but she will eventually trust them.
Thank you Jackson! I am very grateful for these contents.
I adopted 2 kittens, one after 8 hours started purring when I stroke him, and he fell asleep in my arms. The other one is still a little bit shy, doesn't purr, likes to hide in tight spaces, but I always try to play with her, she needs a minute or two of looking at the toy before she attacks it too.
Hello Jackson,my cat always has been a wallflower. She is 3 years old female, her name is Fiona.I have a very important question. From you prospective do you think is it ok for single cat to stay on his own in the apartment for 15 days when me and my daughter go to visit a family. There will be a friend of ours coming two times a day every day to give a food for the cat and play with her.
I didn't know when I got my sister and brother catS that I was going to have to be a fucking psychologist
My first cat was a semi wallflower. Only came out for me but hid for everyone else. She’s 8 now and just the most confident friendly cat ever.
We got another cat recently and she is a stereotypical wall flower. She was rescued from a hoarder. I’ve been watching everything I can to try and help her❤ thanks for the advice
Got my wallflower 3 years ago she took 2 years but she is now all over the downstairs part of the house. My other cat is the Napolian type
My cat is a mojito cat at home and wallflower at my petsitter's. How can they become best friends instead of all of us feeling bad when I leave for vacation?
He just hides in the tightest corner of her closet and won't play at all. So If I understand, she should close every small stash that he can hide in before he comes in, but then? How to introduce them properly? Is there a video for petsitters welcoming wallflowers?
My cat stopped grooming himself properly when I blocked him off from under my bed. He found a new spot to hide in, but was even less adventurous than before. I don't know what to do for him at this point.
It all works, I'm so grateful. I was clueless before I discovered you and now all cats love me, because I finally understand them. Thank you so much. Also in the name of Max, who was a polish street cat, scared of everything and with your methods he now knows of mojo. 💙
Omg yes I just recently got a new kitten after our family cat got poisoned. It was heart breaking my son cried for a whole week straight, but I got him a seal point Siamese and he loves him but the kitten is just terrified of everything. I'm helping my son understand why the cat is feeling this way. My son is 5 but he's learning, our family cat Mila was adopted but she always came to my son and loved on him. But he was allergic to her, he did not care if he got sick he still hugged her and played with her. I got him on medicine and this time I got him a Siamese that is 12 weeks old. Like I said he's scared of everything I was going to adopt his brother with him so he wouldn't be alone. But someone already got the brother, idk if it's because he's alone and needs a friend his age to help him build his confidence. My son and I have brought the kitten out of his shell more. I need to buy more toys I normally am the first one awake and I feed him and I play with him and cuddle him then I go outside to our other family cat Judy who is an outdoor cat. She's a lot happier outside but she does miss Mila a lot. I did introduce her to the kitten the way you showed everyone. But it's not good but I'm slowly getting it there. I told Floyd my son it will take time don't worry Judy will come around. But the kitten his name is Sylvester and he does play he is a good ball and so sweet. I just hope Floyd and I can get him there.
My anxiety torti is an EXTREME wallflower and I have so much guilt. She’s such a sweetheart. She’s starting to suffer from stress related alopecia. I want to fix it, help her. 😢
I have a cat I found that had been abused. I nursed her back to health but she won't play with anything. I tried to get her to play with a string and she acted terrified.
I’ve recently got two cats (girls),one is already comfortable in our home, the other was a wallflower,(constantly hiding behind furniture) we just left her hoping she would come out of her shell, but wasn’t really working, until I broke out the toy on a stick, and now she’s out and bout everywhere, and even now sleeps in her bed and doesn’t get up and run away if you walk past her, she’s definitely settling in now
Why does my 8 month old just stare at me? All the time
Sometimes, it will happen naturally. I adopted two cats who were supposed to be best friends, one outgoing and one shy. We got home and the shy cat suddenly became a complete wallflower, even to her best bud. I was patient and just gave her time, didn't try to rush her. Didn't block off her hiding places. After a couple of months, she was walking around in the open confidently. Two tails swaying in the air most of the time, two cats rubbing against my legs. They play, cuddle and sleep together, just as I wanted.
Just managed to block the unders of my bed with rucksacks and a big yoga mat. Not a permanent solution obviously but it is encouraging my new cat to come into the other room. He's only been here since Wednesday so still adjusting but he's at least using the litter box, drinking and eating some dry food. I'm hoping he will start eating the wet food soon. I'm using the one he liked from the previous owner.
I have one cat who is literally the most Mojito cat to ever exist, and another one that is the shyest wallflower 😂 my cat Fae will rub and climb all over guests the second they come in, and demand to be held, screeching at them for attention! when I take her out for walks on a harness, she runs up to strangers, and does the same thing!
My other cat, Amber, can’t even go outside because she gets SO scared of every little loud noise even in her own house, and will scramble to hide.
😂
I love them both equally, and I think they make each other’s lives so much better. Fae really needed a companion because she is SO social and gets lonely when left by herself!
And Amber needed a confident older cat to show her the ropes, the shelter REQUIRED her to be adopted to someone with a confident older cat to bond her to!!! I said “sounds like the perfect job for Fae” and theyve been inseparable since.
It works out, often! Their differences makes caring for them easier.
For example, I only have to take one of the cats out and I don’t have to try and wrangle to two leashed cats at a time, because only one of them likes to go outside. Fae
I only have to kick one of my cats off the counters because she is confident enough to defy rules that I’ve already set in place and trained. Whereas my timid cat will actually listen when i teach her not to do something 😂 Amber
One cat begs for affection and is demanding about it, screaming at you and clawing her way into your arms 😂 Fae
The other cat is just as affectionate but typically leaves you alone. But if you walk up and pet her she will never walk away, she will sit there and purr for hours enjoying every moment. Amber
My confident cat tries to claw me when i brush her teeth. Fae
My nervous cat just freezes and lets me do it quickly and without having to roughly restrain her! Amber.
They’re equally difficult and equally enjoyable. Love them to bits
Thank you so much my newly adopted wallflower is now coming out an asking for pets and playing with toys in the center room
One of our Bengals is not necessarily a wallflower, but she just does not like to be loved on or picked up. She’ll she’ll come up to you and it’s like she acts like she wants to be loved on but when you start to reach out to love on her as she thinks her runs away. Her BFF will come up a little more for petting but she won’t want to be picked up very much so just don’t know how to get her out of her skittish Ness or her fearfulness and she just like to be closed in if she in the bedroom and you close the bedroom door, she is freaking she wants out so bad
This was perfectly explained.
I got a tortie. And she absolutely has the tortitude and then some. :") (I've just gotten her last week and she's a bit of everything right now. Hiding away alot, but gets super loveydovey when I have food, demanding attention but then hissing and biting when I try to pet her. lmfao.. it's very confusing. BUT I am basically watching all of Jackson's videos to try and understand her and make her comfy.)
I'm still not really sure what my Loki is: sometimes he's a bit of a Napoleon as he'll pounce and bully my Mojito cat, but other times he runs away from him and won't go near him. Not sure what to do with them both.
