There is an 80's TV show called Monkey (or Monkey Magic depending where you are) which covers this story, I believe its available on YT. Also highly recommend Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons, damn good film (gonna wat h it again later), there are a ton of films covering Sun Wu Kong's story, Donnie Yen has played the character. And yes Son Goku is based on Sun Wu Kong, the ape transformation, Nyoibo (the staff) & Nimbus (which I don't know for sure is in the original Journey to the West, but was definitely in the Monkey tv series)

Dragonball is heavily inspired by this story. As i was reading the Wikipedia article for it i found alot of similarities between the story and Dragonball such as the peaches that grant immortality and such. I have a feeling were seriously about to have alot of people who claim to have been a Dragonball fan for years 😂😂.
