One of the many feral/semi-feral cats we had been feeding came into our home four years ago and had three babies under one of our beds. We ended up keeping all of them and so thankful we did. Our little family has been such a comfort and joy! After losing our last furkid,we hadn’t planned on getting anymore pets of any kind but I guess the cat Gods were laughing and had other plans for us.😻
I have my kitties mother and son from birth It is awesome,my big Kitty the mother was born on my stomach while I was asleep.
2:08 He is literally dragging his butt on the carpet xD
Is there anyway at all to get them to recognize each other to get their bond back I have two cats that where separated after adulthood for months now reunited they can’t even remember each other I need help with this situation
My kittens don’t eat together but everything else they do all day lol
I have some almost 2 year old littermates!! ones a small fluffy tabby with pretty green eyes and the others a big brown tabby with a mustache pattern on his lips and really cute eyes the same colour as his sister's!!
Do cats distinguish their own pets (Humans) throughout their lives, like who's their pet human from the neighbor, so yes they do know each other, but their loyalty and priority is different from humsn, also they don't care.
If feral male siblings are in the same territory then they fight to the death sometimes and yes even though they know they're of the same litter and related.
I came here cause I remember a cat mom walking in my back patio a few times with her litter of 6 kittens two were black and white.
One of those black & white cats got separated from the litter and ended up on my door step… fast forward 2 years later that other black & white cat showed up extra beat up (I'm talking one eye beat up) trying to eat my cats food. My cat let him have some.
Ok so I recently adopted 2 two old months kittens one male and one female but, on the day of the adoption, I was only able to bring the female home because I was told they would have to neuter the male before going home which I was ok with. The male kitten stayed back for a week and yesterday I was able to bring him home. I tried to introduce him to the female kitten and right off the back the female kitten started hissing at him so I kept them apart letting them see each other in hopes they'd remember each other but sadly that still hasn't been the case. At this moment I'm keeping them in separate rooms and will be trying the door feeding technique feeding at the same time on opposite sides of the door in hopes the female kitten accepts him. The male kitten from what I've gathered actually wants to get along with the female kitten, like he will try to get close to her but once he gets close enough she will start hissing at him so I separate them. I just need any pointers if anyone can help I've been looking online and have found a few things but maybe someone out there has something I've not read or seen online. Any help would be really appreciated, both of them seem happy here in their new home purring and seeking attention it's just the little girl who seems to be having a bit of a hard time letting her brother into our home. Again any help would be wonderful thanks.
I have sister and brother cats since kittens. They're 2 years old and fixed. The male always finds a way to seem like her kitten. Not trying to nurse but she Has to groom him sometimes because he doesn't always groom. He didn't groom himself at all as a kitten and other things she does on his behalf. They also interact a lot more than other cat pairs we've had
hey how do you have my twin black and white cats up there 😠 they even have the same different chin colors like how in the world !?!??
I adopted a Lynx point Siamese male. His sister became homeless five years later so she moved to live with her brother. They did seem to recognize each other and got along well from the first minute. They did the rub cheeks thing first thing.
I got a kitten over 2 months old. She has 5 siblings but I could only afford for 1. She got comfortable with her new home and with me fast. Next month I'm going away for 2 days so I'm worried how she will react. She won't be alone in the house but my dad doesn't interact with her at all and my brother is an introvert stays in his room with the door shut. Since my friend is the one who gave me the kitten, she has 2 houses and the one she currently lives is has only 1 of her siblings twin sister. I think it would be nice id just take her there for the nights I won't be around but I'm worried cause she may have forgotten them and it's a new house she's never been in. But at least she would have attention and company. What do you suggest I do?
We’ve had our 2 boys since birth and they’ve always had a strong bond even being a liter apart. They’re usually chilling next to or around each other
My kitten is like 2 months old and my cousin got the sister. I just wanted to see how theyd get along after not seeing each other
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have a male kitten and my niece has the brother they have reunite a month later and act like they know each other and they were loving each other so much we tried to put them together each month they seem to know each other and love each other too much
I adopted my cat from a litter of four, two males and two females. I wish I had taken his brother as well but at the time I didn't have the means to care of more than one cat. I have taken him to see his sisters after being apart for several years but they don't seem to remember each other. They don't fight but my cat is defiantly more comfortable around humans in general than other cats family or not. He was raised as the only cat in the house and really he owns me.lol
Interesting, thanks for the awesome vid! Came from your "do cats remember their mothers?" vid and had to subscribe 👍.
When I was a kid we got 2 Norwegian Forrest kittens from a breeder in Tennessee. We got one, then decided to get her sister as well the next day…so they'd been separated for about a week due to having to be flown into another state. That was almost 30 years ago so I don't remember much regarding if they recognized each other or not (nor does my dad who I asked specifically for this comment)…but I do remember we didn't go through that territorial stage when introducing a new cat, and that it was like we did get them both at the same time/together.
I remember a family from year's back whose male cat got the female next door pregnant. The owners of the female gave this family one of the female kittens, but they did so before she could be properly weaned. She kept trying to nurse off her father, even after over a year. Dad tried to kick her away every time she tried to nurse, but the daughter was pretty persistent. Eventually, the father gave up and let his daughter try to nurse.
Moral: Don't take a kitten away from it's mother before it is properly weaned.
I've adopted two littermates directly from the foster care situation. My boys are a bonded pair and won't be humanly separated. You mentioned valid points a that I found to be true of my rambunctious ones!
I have two cats that are brothers same litter. I adopted both of them three months apart. But they remembered each other immediately. Today as adults they are inseparable. Both were so happy to see each other again. They were both feral but not really full feral because the daughter started interacting with the kittens outside when they were born. But the mother cat was complete feral.
I adopted the first one at 6 months, his brother at 9 months. They lived outside for at least that long but we’re easy to make an indoor cat out of. I believe they would have perished if I hadn’t adopted them.
They have a sister that someday I hope to adopt. My ex wife adopted her. I always wanna believe they would remember her as well. The three were super close as kittens.
3 feral kittens running around, ~6months old, managed to capture 2 of them — took them many weeks to become friendly even though they are definitely litter mates.
I got a kitten at 3 and a half months of age from the pound. His sister had just been adopted by someone else who got there before we did. Long story short, we wound up cat sitting our kitten's sister a year later for 5 weeks. Not sure if they recognized each other, but they got along like peas and carrots.
Cats are not people. Do the need to know their siblings like you know your brothers and sisters to better survive in the wild? Unless there is a survival or evolutionary purpose, probably not, no matter how much people want to believe.
They do know they are related. I know that for a fact. I've been feeding the kittens the mother drops off at the house for 3 years now. Every year a new load of kittens and they all seem to get along. After all, they all came from this one mother cat. The thing is the older sibling have no problem having sex with the younger siblings either. Cats can multiply quite fast.
Why does my cat cookie she lets me pet her belly and she has done this since she was little kitten and everyone else in my family she doesn't like them
I had a brother sister Persian kittens.. my aunt took one away after around 2 months .. they both went Berserk crazy once they met after around 15 months of separation ..and then I kept both together because they both literally went into depression once my aunt went back to her home.. I’d to drive around 290 miles with mine and got his sister back.. Sometimes people simply assume that being animals and stuff, the bond isn’t as strong as humans usually have ..
I believe like Humans, animals Adapt to such changes and since they can’t talk to us about it, assumptions are made that it doesn’t matter to them or that it affects them pretty strongly too ..
I always love these cat videos that you make, thank you !!
Sorry but I have no experience to share regarding reuniting adult kittens with their mothers after prolonged separation.
My cat has been separated from his mom for 6 years now. She is far away in another State 1,000 miles away. I seriously doubt he would recognize her as his mom. Even when he was only 2 years old and they were not separated they began treating each other as unrelated cats. And that was 6 years ago.
My cat will be 8 yrs old soon.
He is very healthy and in his prime.
our cat had brothers and sisters,I don't think of them are around anymore,we live on a busy street and I haven't seen them since 2015,we managed to keep lucky, none of her other siblings wanted to be with us,but can you blame them? some dumbass abandoned them all in the middle of the night,I wouldn't trust humans ethier if I were them
I once had a brother and sister and the sister’s two daughters. An attempt to adopt an abandoned kitten met with great hostility. (The kitten wound up being adopted by a family of ducks-go figure 🤣)
We have two litter mates. I'm glad we have them together because one of them would not have coped alone.
My little man,Felix is now 6 months old and him and his mama are still very close. Felix was born a single.
The digital voiceover is bad and ruin everything
I’ve had two cats together before, but this is the first time I’ve had siblings with my 6 month old brothers. The attachment is amazing, where other have tolerated and maybe played with each other these two are like glue. Normally as one cat passes I’ve gone down to a single cat household not wanting to upset the cat that remained. However, when my now wife and I moved in together I had an 18 year old female who lived to be 20 and my wife had 14 year old male who lived to be 22. They got on really well for the two years they were together yet they had different personalities. I weaned my female as she had been abandoned too early, I was always her mum and she would sleep un the crook of my arm (until she fell in love with my wife). My wife's male saw me purely as his servant though in his last 14 months he appreciates me as his care giver (my wife is hemiparuplegic and cat care sometimes requires two arms).
I saved my little cat from outside and I believe he was lost. I had seen his mother for years and she had 3 litters of 5 . He was in the last litter and the only survivor , as all the others were eaten or killed by other means. This means no blood siblings left for him…I am the closest thing to that.
I had a bio pair – brother and sister – since they were kittens. They did everything together even sleep and eat together. When they were about 5-6 months old brother caught lankeukopenia (12/2020) and didn´t make it even with the vet's help. His sister stayed however healthy and stayed with us. You could see that she was sad in her eyes long after it happened as she stayed alone and she was searching places where they were spending time together. She started to sleep with us in bed which she didn´t do before. About a half year later I found a little black stray male kitten crying in the bushes and after he started to trust me I brought him home. She doesn´t have the same relationship with the new cat as she did with her brother. She doesn´t even like him or eats with him
let me save you some time. senior cat wellness doesn't tell you the answer till the end of the video which we all knew was a no they don't recognize each other after separation. look a week month isn't bad but i would say after the 3rd month they probably wouldn't recognize each other any more
I'm so thankful I never separated my two litter-mates, they've never spent an hour apart from one another and they still do absolutely everything together.
Wait to separate them from mamma and siblings, until after 12 weeks of age- they're more well adjusted, secure, and calm- also, try to adopt in pairs, or triples 😘😻
I have two cats from the same litter and they were very close even as adults, sleeping, eating and hunting together. One cat broke it's leg and had to go away for surgery for a couple of weeks. When he returned and saw his sister he went running up to her. She did not seem to recognise him though and her hackles raised and she hissed and spat at him. Her brother looked devestated by her response. It took a week or two, but she eventually accepted her brother back and they are as close as ever again.
❤
Thank you for the information about cats. I wish you all a safe and Happy New Year.
I didn't know this.
Recently, I put two unrelated cats together, 14 yo and 15 yo females. They more or less ignore one another unless they happen to be competing for my attention. I'm glad that they didn't make war on one another. At times, I"ve seen them sleeping in my living room, not together, but sharing the large space, one on the sofa and the other in my recliner.
I can attest that siblings have a strong bond. My Jerry and Kramer are inseparable.
