In all honesty many of us sonic fans can care less that outsiders think its steaming hot garbage. We've waited decades for this great game and the calling trash is usually this is their first sonic game and they are the same folks who said elden ring is trash also.
i will never trust review scores or anyone else's opinion on a game
everyone hates sonic forces and sonic 06 but theyre my 2 favorite sonic games so far
it's overpriced for what it is, they really need to expand on this formula and add more depth if this is how it's going to be going forward.
How I feel about game is that it’s better than forces that’s how I look at it
Lol it looks trash lol I’ll get it when it’s 20
What's a "pop-ins"?
I’ve seen 7’s and 8’s for the most part. 73 currently on Metacritic which is better than expected for a Sonic game and plenty of good games recently have fallen in that range. We’ve kind of lost track of what scores even mean anymore anyway. 73 should be a very above average game on a 1-10 scale. 8’s, 9’s, and 10’s should be exceedingly rare but these days if a game doesn’t get an 8 or higher people say it’s ‘unplayable trash’. If that’s the case why even have a 1-10 score? Just have 7-10 at that point. Reviews have been all over the place anyway lately and half the time I end up not agreeing with the reviews. Not sure if I’ll pick this one up or not after Ragnarok, but I’m sure not trusting reviews on it to make a decision. That’s for sure.
Sucks that this comes out a day before God of war ragnarok
Digital Trends gave New Tales from the Borderlands an 80, and Saints Row a 60. I honestly cannot see how Sonic Frontiers can be a 20, while Saints Row is supposedly a 60. Such low scores should be reserved for games that are near broken, unplayable, or absolutely terrible. An example of this would be Ride to Hell: Retribution.
im pretty surprised by the review scores and I think its great thing for sonic fans if they end up being accurate!
I say 7 from IGN was low for Frontiers, as it's changing The Sonic Franchise, and Sonic Forces was a 6.9, which is nowhere as good as Sonic Frontiers. So far, from what I've seen, I love it. I rarely listen to critics, so I go off by fans. So I'm getting it.
I care about the future games. Will the future games be great?
Game ended up were I thought it would be. Being a 7/10 puts it into the good yet flawed category. Main issue with "gamer scores" is that 7 had been placed as "average" because of how often it's the default for good yet flawed products. 5 should be that make of average but doesn't do anything particularly interesting.
I think the main issue is that they need to work on twicking the hedgehog engine to help with the floating objects or learn to mask them better. They seem to have been added later into development because as the dictator pointed out during play testing with a wide range of people, that the open world was to empty to really get anything out of Sonic's speed. Thus they added a lot of in the sky platforming.
Anyway think I'll give it a shot.
so much pop in it is like one of those pop up books
There about what I figured this game would receive. Is it good enough for what we super need for a Sonic title? Who knows. Standard highest scores for Sonic.
The review from Games Radar is beyond unfair, at a 40 😖 The game deserves at least an 80, not half that. And don't even get me started on the Digital Trends review, that one was disgusting..
I don't care about review scores nor on how bad or good the game is for me I usually get the game and have fun you only get one life use it you should be happy to what Sega is giving you
If you think they will fix the pop in, I hate to break it to you. They wont fix it because they cant. Many devs on YouTube have explained that this game is running off a shit engine and the pop in is an inevitable consequence of the engine, and as a amateur game dev, I can confirm this is true. The game looks good enough for me to buy on a sale, but i'm not expecting the pop in to fix unless I sell my arm and get a 4090.
No.
In open world games, due to system resource restrictions (lack of memory and/or lack of computation power), you can't load everything at once.
As you come closer to an object, the game will start loading the object. Better the system, the game developer can allow loading of object really far away (even to a point where you don't see it, as it is less than 1px big on your screen), or if you are limited, only around you. This is also why, as you may have noticed in some games, where the grass is only visible around your character only, but not further away. Lack of resources limits visuals.
Large or complex (for the system) levels, uses another trick… and that is loading while hiding a loading screen. This is typically hidden in elevator, Now, you know why in many games, you have elevators that you need to take. The elevator ride simply put you in a room while it unloads where you were, and loads the next level. Another system, is dynamic loading of level as you come closer to a door. This was most visible back in early disk game consoles. If you are in a level where you have multiple doors around it, and you are at the center, all is fine, as you come closer to a door, you'll hear your system disk start spinning and seeking data… run too quickly to the door and open it… well you'll experience a.. unresponsive door, as the level behind the door is still loading. But anyways, they are a huge collection of tricks that game developers employ to make the impossible possible with limited system resources.
A faster storage medium will help reduce the pop-in delay, as the object being loaded can be fetch from storage faster, and display sooner. You'll still have it, because, as I mentioned, lack of system resources, but reduced.
Level of Details, is different. It is when you want the object to be on the screen at a certain distance, but it is so far away, you don't see any details about it, so, to gain performance for other things (say, have more objects on the screen, or gain higher viewable distance of objects or afford nicer visuals), you can cut polygons and texture resolution.
I figured it would be 7-8 review scores which is fantastic
Skill Up is a pos and, let's face it, the industry has been pretty anti Sonic since the 90s. Crying about pop-in is goofy af honestly. I know im gonna enjoy it
It sounds like most Sonic fans will like it overall.
POP IN DOES NOT MATTER I WISH PEOPLE WOULD RELISE THAT IF YOU ARE SOMEONE WHO NEEDS IMMERSION YH MAYBE SONIC IS NOT FOR YOU LOL
I did saw and watch some review on this game I was a little surprised at the critics opinion on this still don’t trust them but very curious here
The thing is this game will get review bombed that’s just the type of series it is but that stuff is just people being assholes Yh the game is not perfect but what is there is extremely fun and i can’t wait to see then expand on it with future games
A 73 that’s good for a sonic game
Stuff like pop in to is just not a thing you can use to lower the reviews it’s bad ok but who cares not me
It’s funny because if any other game got a 73 on MetaCritic, there would be riots in the streets, but for Sonic fans (like myself) this is kind of a win😂😂
The reviewers for this game just don’t understand that this game was made during the pandemic struggles if you look at h the game from that point of view even with the technical issues it’s a good game
