Remember, Michelle's first movie was Girl Fight. She got that role because she is indeed a real barbarian, in the best way. Anyhow, I, a grognard of 1980's AD&D (1e), and a veteran of a thousand terrible fantasy movies, genuinely loved this movie all the way thru, from the bottom of my large bag of holding and my rpg heart.
Spoiler below:
I was worried for Michelle coming into this movie, because it seems like every time she's in an action movie, they kill her off, altho she frequently comes back anyway. Funny how things work out sometimes, isn't it?
I very much enjoyed this movie. It was a lot of fun. Definitely worth going to see in the theaters.. I plan to see the second time this weekend. I highly recommend it
I'm tired of this silly billy banter style humor in movies. Especially in fantasy films it really doesn't appeal to me so the trailer put me off.
1. The movie is the new players handbook. Instead of handing a new player a 300page book, they watch the movie and they have all the setting information they need for the Sword Coast. This is also Hasbro's effort for blocking Tal'Dorei from being the DEFAULT world (as it was starting to become – no one ASKS to play in Faerun but I do get players asking to play in the world of Critical Roll).
2. This is the Proof of concept. Much like Iron Man 1, it proves that when we try and spend some money, we CAN make good Comic Book, and now, a good D&D movie… We CAN have nice things when we don't Half-ass things like we have been doing (this is a commentary of other fantasy movies and some, not all, WotC books).
Have not seen it yet.
We saw previews at another movie and my wife said she would like to see it. She wants nothing to do with D&D but said she wants to see it!!
I was stoked about it 3-4 months ago but then WotC happened and I wasn’t sure if I was going to be going to see it. I think I will
Thank you for breaking it down like that and explaing the specifics of why you liked the movie (without spoilers). Look forward to watching it!
