I wonder what you will think about tlou2..
I am that guy who has this along with its sequel in my top 10 games of all time! I found the story well told, the situation well explained. There was so much detail in the world. Every character was brilliantly written and performed. It offered food for thought at the end, and my mind feasted!
Hi femtropper, from the perspective of a new parent who is very busy, would you recommend, the switch or the switch lite? Thanks
I am sad to say I've never tried this series out. I know the first one is an absolute classic.. but yeah that stealth gameplay wasn't calling to me. But love these discussion type videos! Great job!
My friends keep asking me to play it but I've ignored them again and again but I think when I finally cough up the money for a PS5 next year(when it's possible to get one) I will play it then. Good Review though, very honest and spoiler free. You mentioned you play games on low volume because your son is sleeping. I can relate as I play while my daughter naps. Investing in a solid headset was a big help for me.
The thing is, TLOU isn't a stealth game at all. If I were to judge it as one, it wouldn't be a very good stealth game. The stealth is meant to be combined with the shooting. I think the gameplay is fun enough. Compared to Uncharted and Jak, TLOU's combat does feel a lot better. It doesn't have the overreliance on cover and terrible stealth of Uncharted nor does it have the awkward mechanics, shitty implementation of hitscan attacks and weird controls of the Jak Sequels.
I do think this game's story is probably one of the better Zombie stories in fiction. It's mainly due to the characters more than anything and how every survivor Joel meets is a reflection of various aspects of himself. I still strongly dislike zombie stories just because zombies are so unthreatening and boring as an antagonist. At least vampires can be interesting. Zombies are just boring and lame.
I did the same thing. I played a few hours on PS3 then didn’t get into it. Then the remaster came out and I bought it again. I got a bit further the second time but still haven’t finished it. Can’t put my finger on it but I just can’t get engulfed in it like millions of others. There are super memorable parts with the story but it just didn’t click with me. Glad you saw it through to the end though Paige! Excellent review !
So glad to hear that you went back to this one! Very much like you, I played the opening few hours on PS3 and it didn't click with me. Just a few years ago (2019) I played LoU Remastered beginning to end in about a week and it now ranks among one of my favorite games of all time. The gameplay mechanics don't do too much to move the needle, but the story between Joel and Ellie just really struck a cord with me. Happy to hear it did for you too, Paige!! Prepare yourself for Part II and take your time with it. It's brutal, but I look forward to hearing your thoughts nonetheless!
I felt very similarly to you about this game. I’m not a big stealth fan, I didn’t care much for the gameplay. But eventually… I think it was on the way to Pittsburgh in the game, the characters clicked with me and I wanted to finish. I liked the dlc Left Behind even more than the main game.
I had a similar experience with this game but for different reasons that I can't really articulate. I actually quite like stealth bits in games but I played this about 5 hours too and it didn't click with me. I found the experience quite stressful and maybe I just wasn't in the right head space for it?! Like you I'm a different gamer now than when I first tried it so I do want to give it a go at some point. I'll knock it down to easy as well if I struggle again!
The game is good but I feel it’s incredibly overrated. There is nothing innovative or spectacular. And it has that Naughty Dog shooting mechanic that always feels off to me even in uncharted. The characters are pretty good but I felt that “father-daughter” bond was better done in Telltales The Walking Dead which came out a year earlier. Which ironically is kind of the same type of game albeit with different gameplay. It’s a good game but when people say it’s a masterpiece and the goat, I have to shrug.
I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’ll have to talk to you and get your thoughts on it. Now time for part 2
I liked the first one through and through, however if you found it hard at points and don’t like the stealth aspect you might find #2 even harder to get through as it is a lot longer, lots more stealth, and a story that …. Is a lot different of an experience than the first (not in a bad way for me, but it was a deal breaker for others).
Awesome review Paige! I've played the original on ps3 when it came out. I need to replay the remastered version at some point.
My partner is a big horror fan and wanted to play the last of us for years. We finally got a PlayStation earlier this year and I watched her play the game and the sequel. Then she went and replayed the last of us and now she’s replaying the sequel. So I haven’t played them but I’ve seen them a couple of times! I feel there’s a good amount of depth to the characters and the story. We also tend to have the game on a low volume because it’s usually on when my dog is asleep in the room 🤣 the sound of the zombie apocalypse does get a lot louder in combat sections! As I say I haven’t played tlou personally but in uncharted 4 (which I really liked), I didn’t feel fully in control when all out gunning, but stealth gave me a chance to feel like everything I was doing was deliberate. I imagine i would feel similar on tlou as I have never really got used to shooting/aiming with a controller – on console I much prefer melee combat like ghost of Tsushima
I felt a very similar way in the beginning, never owned it but played a bit at a friend's house, though I'm not sure if my motivation is really there to go back to it
I originally played this back on the PS3. I think the game is overrated. The game felt clunky. Story is great, and I do enjoy the characters.
I loved practically everything about it, but I will admit that I'm a huge fan of stealth and survival horror games, so The Last Of Us was pretty much right up my alley. I have a feeling you'll love the second game more. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it if you do eventually decide to play it.
The game is a harrowing experience, but I love it. I’m wanting to play the remastered and then the second one, but I’ll get to it. Great review
Felt the same as you did. Loved the opening scene with Joel as its still one of the most emotional scenes in all of video games., but I didn't like the opening gameplay section either and it was only when I was halfway through that the game clicked with me!
Awesome!
