You and some of the other youtubers I follow also like that this trailer seems to show more of a comedy POV than not. And I'm not sure if I want a comedy, I don't really see the appeal of comedy in my D&D movie. Sure there are comedy and jokes in my D&D group gameplay, but it's very table-specific, I feel. Is it because you all felt that Game of Thrones or Wheel of Time is the closest comparison for a "serious" D&D movie? (i know they aren't D&D, just that they are the more recent magic/medieval based shows on TV)
As far as the fancy fighting — they are a team of thieves as in they steal things, but they aren't all necessarily classed as thieves. Obviously you also have a druid (others have noted druids cant wildshape into owlbears as they are monstrous, not natural) and a fighter in the party as well, likely a mage of some sort. And Pine is apparently a bard.
And did they intentionally dive into a gelatinous cube?
A lot of D&D tropes name-checked in the trailer, so it feels like it may be a D&D movie, as opposed to a D&D-flavored generic fantasy movie (which I thought enjoyabe, if not 'good.'). This'll be fun, and may even be good.

I don't mean to be a Devil's Advocate, but I have deep reservations about this. First, Chris Pine is only "famous" because Jar Jar Abrams, Destroyer of Franchises, let him play Captain Kirk in his appalling Star Trek reboot. SO MUCH here looks wrong, based on a few seconds of movie trailer. This is not a fantasy world so much as a fantasy "fetishization" just as Wizards of the Coast has done to the game itself. Questions: why is that the only boat in the harbor of that big city? Why doesn't Chris Pine, presumably a bard who thus knows a little bit about everything, know what an owlbear is?? Why is a 100 lb girl a super-strong barbarian? And does anyone really know what historical druids & bards really were anymore for Heaven's sake? We'll see Chris Poser-Pine "shredding his axe" (i.e. that absurd lute) like he's Angus Young on stage at Live at Donnington. "But John, it's fantasy D&D, not reality! Get over yourself!" Sigh. We'll have a druid that will preach to us about climate change and the "patriarchy" and will look nothing like actual historical druids. (Why the heck are "tieflings" even a thing, anyway? Really? Fiend-people??) We seem to have "medieval" clothing made of modern fabrics and cut in styles you'd see in a trendy Oscars after-party. I'm pretty old school; I've played this game since the 1980s when it could get you beaten up because of the "satanic panic" (and actually DID a couple of times when I was a teenager back then, growing up in a Bible Belt town in rural Arkansas); I've paid my dues as a fan of this game…yet this movie is going to do what Hollywood always does: lift up a big middle finger to the original fans.
I skipped the Dragonlance cartoon because every review on it was negative. I will have to check it out now.

If you liked that trailer you'll Love Thor Love and Thunder. I think it should have been Game of Thrones with monster or LOTR, something with gravitas but we know Hollywood don't have any writers that could write such a thing

I'm disgusted that Led Zeppelin is being used in an utter garbage fest wotc woke superheros movie..just no. That cast is also a huge no for me. No all around lol. Can't support this at all not much more I can say.

Well I was actually pleasantly surprised. Sure I would be more excited if it was grittier but it does look fun and well made. The cast seems to work.
The music is probably just for the trailer or the end credit I guess.
And the dragons in the Elric Saga spewed acid out of their mouths. 🙂
So was this filmed a couple of years ago? I’ve seen Chris Pine in some of the more recent movies and he looks a lot older now.
