Makes total sense, any advanced race would do the same things humans would do both good and bad. We will never encounter aliens because the two dimensions time and space are so vast that we will never intersect. Yes life can exist anywhere in the universe but also any time. Most of the life outside of earth existed before our time. A billion years ago, 300 million years ago etc and we will never intersect with them because they are gone.
Evil can be advanced in consciousness too. Just because a race out there is far more advanced will not mean they are peaceful. Darkness can evolve and become advanced just the same as good. Do not let this assumption fool you. The chap from Nasa who sent a message into space about Humanity has put us all at risk and made the assumption that they will all be peaceful. Their advanced knowledge can be used against us in horrific ways.

Why do we always put our traits onto other species known and unknown?

If aliens are smart to understand community among them selves I believe their only problem would be curiosity with the unknown because they understand the possibility of a bad outcome based on what they learned among them selves and they could be armed so perhaps it's better to not send the first death threat but keep them curious. Based on my understanding of life and caring for your own will play a part on how you approach the other side that could be potentially powerful.
