Thank you for this. My 4YO Pittie mix has been bitten and attacked multiple times by other dogs, because of his rough play. Out of anxiety for any escalation, I stopped socializing him, which is probably also not a great idea. :-/
Excellent video, I'm 5 days in with a 7 year old kelpie and an 8 week old malinois. It took 2 days for the kelpie to warm to her then yesterday the malinois was biting too hard on the neck. The kelpie isn't checking her enough. I was already starting to do as the video stated before I watched it.
Thanks for the content,
If there's any other tips it would be greatly appreciated
ppl gonna say ´´Oh he is just a wagging tail sweet puppy!!´´ …..
These redirections work with cats as well. We have an animal rescue of about 50 cats that all eat and live together mostly outside. If there is a growl (I allow hissing) I will yell loudly “Hey” and that sends the aggressor running while gen pop looks at me confused, if they look up. Then the correct name is used for further correction. My cats don’t all get along but there is only fighting if an outsider attacks.
What if you would recommend a late night and this comes out around 2 1/2 years old before the neuter. Never ever had this before had semi rough play but never as physical as right now.
My 2.5yr labradoodle gets abit rough – especially with smaller pups but he gets so hyper focused he doesn’t hear me and is too fast so I cannot catch him. (I do know the dogs he can play with that match his energy) – will try this technique to see if it helps. Thank you
We have an older dog that is really rough with our puppy. We will try this.
How do I correct if both dogs are deaf?
The cameraman petting the puppy while he was in that state of mind didn’t help – people doing that in general doesn’t help.
He ran up to him very intensely and then jumped on him (dominance). The cameraman pets him. The dog learns this a great way to meet people – “I enter their space and dominate them with zero consequences…this must be what Simba felt like when his mane started coming in!” This appears to have translated to meeting dogs as well.
Speaking solely on human interactions, giving affection to an excited dog will only increase the excitement. An excited mind won’t listen. I get he’s a puppy so everything is cute but if the adults can do a better job of controlling their emotions in those moments, the world would be a much safer place.
Dogs need to learn but people need to learn more on how a dog’s mind works and how it sees the world. It’s drastically different from how many of us tend to humanize them.
This was exactly what I needed to see. Just adopted a 5 month old shepherd mix (going to assume there's pittie there too) and she was jumping on my 3yr old GSD and he was NOT having it. He didnt hurt her but he would try to walk away, growl, bark, and show his teeth, but she wasn't taking the hint. I was terrified that she would get hurt. I scoured the internet for advice (signed up for puppy classes in the middle of research too). This is helping immensely. Only tried it for a few mins because I didnt want to push anyone's limits, but she is learning!! Still a lot of work to do for us all but forward progress has been made no matter how small.
Got 4 Puppies. Your Tips helped me so much. Even my 1 of my 3 Adults becomes better (no one would believe in him 😂) thank you ❤
Thanks for the help
This is a great approach but I cannot catch my 7 month old boxer cross. She is very rough with my Westie and I am afraid about a potential injury. What do you do if you cannot approach and grab collar after the no command and clap? Help!!! I'm so stressed as is my Westie!!
Wish I could bring my dog to you. I’m in the uk, I’ve been trying to find trainers like you here but no luck.
This is an incredibly helpful video. Thank you so much for showing it in real time like you did. Love all your content!
Doberman dont want to play
Really amazing stuff, I'm hoping it works on my dogs
My dogs play rough but when it’s too rough I say stop and that’s the end of it pretty simple
I think prince didn’t know what to do because prince doesn’t know how what to do on his own because he is always being told what to do by guess who you.
my JRT puppy is 3,5 months old and he bites when playing with other dogs, should I be correcting him at such a young age or should I wait until he's like 6-8months old?
What if you can't catch the rough dog who is not being checked by our older dog.
I have a chihuahua puppy who plays exactly like this. His impulse control is great on other aspects, but he gets way too excited when he's playing with other dogs and I always get so scared a bigger dog might bite his head off. It's hard to correct him because of how tiny and fragile he is
This is really helpful!! I have a new 6 month old puppy who was a stray and she is a pure mutt mix, haha. She plays so roughly though with my Bernese mix and tends to bite, jump and lunge in play. My Bernese-mix hates it because she isn’t a rough player but she’s young herself at 2 and she doesn’t know how to check her. My heeler who is 10 checks her all the time and she doesn’t mess with him. Knowing how to check her behavior and kind of snap her out of it will really help, thanks so much.
I’m not going to spay my dog.❤
My five month old Pitty mix shoulder bumps the back of my leg on a walk so I put her into a sit/stay and then I grabbed her collar and said no Lilly!❤
My Pitt Bull mix looks exactly like this dog and she behaves exactly the same way too!! This has taught me how to fix her dominance and rough edges!! Thanks for helping me out with this amazing work!!❤
My 16 month old acts like this with my 6yr old dog. She loves to play but has a limit. I now know how to work on him.
A dog that does'nt understand physical boundaries?
Looks like a dogo
