I test robot vacuums for a living, and this one has the most useful cleaning feature I’ve seen yet

CES displayed some groundbreaking robot vacuum technology, combining the best robotics and artificial intelligence to deliver some of the most innovative robots we’ve seen in years. However, one stands out for how expertly it elevated its capabilities, skipping the flashy robotic limbs in favor of more thorough cleaning results.

The Narwal Flow is an upgraded robot vacuum and mop from the company. It will be available in the US in the summer of 2025 and will have a new color, design, and even a redesigned logo.

Some of the best technology within the Narwal Flow is its ‘Deep Carpet Boost.’ While many other robot vacuums on the market automatically increase suction power when they detect carpets or rugs, the Narwal Flow will increase suction and then some. When going over a carpet, the Flow lowers its brush roller to apply extra pressure and uses counter-directional movements to clean embedded dust, hair, and dirt from deep within carpet fibers. 

I saw its effectiveness during an in-person demo on a medium-to-high-pile carpet. While this was some of the fluffiest carpet I’ve ever touched, Narwal’s product demonstrator showed me how the Narwal Flow dug deep into the carpet fibers to remove grains of salt that had been worked into the fabric. Of course, this can be attributed to the robot’s 18,000Pa of suction power, but I believe it’s more so thanks to the roller brush shifting downward to apply pressure and dig into the carpet.

In addition to an improved suction system, the Narwal Flow features upgraded Twin-AI navigation technology, which I also saw hard at work. Using dual RGB cameras and processing the images with AI-powered visual recognition, the Narwal Flow can identify different types of objects and react accordingly. 

On a live video feed from the robots’ cameras, we could see how the robot detected objects like wires, toys, animals, and people and categorized each in real time. It also blurs people’s faces in real-time for privacy. 

Instead of the dual oscillating triangular mop pads used in previous Narwal models, the Narwal Flow features a self-washing mop roller that cleans only with fresh water. The robot will keep clean and dirty water tanks separate. The mop roller will continuously scrub itself clean within the robot as it spins to pick up messes instead of spreading them around.

Similar mop roller technology has been seen from other brands, including the Eufy S1 Pro and SwitchBot S10. In 2025, we expect new robot vacuums featuring similar mopping systems, including the Ecovacs Deebot X8 Omni and the Yeedi S14 Plus. The Narwal Flow’s mop roller also extends to the side to clean corners and edges. 

At the dock, the Narwal Flow can auto-empty its dustbin and wash and dry its mop roller. The dustbag at the base station can hold up to 120 days’ worth of dust and debris. 

While there’s no official launch date or price for the Narwal Flow, the folks at the Narwal booth at CES told me it would be out around June of this year, with a price ranging around $1,600. That’s a fairly competitive price point considering most flagship robot vacuums are now hitting the $2,000 range nowadays.
