Forspoken certainly wasn't what I was expecting, but as an inFamous fan, I was overall pleasantly surprised to see how mechanically similar it is.
As a side-note, the mid-game banter has a slider you can use to turn down the frequency if it grates on you.
Hope this can be the right game for the right person out there, if that's you, let me know! 🙂
Excellent review very well spoken. You brought up so many good points on the perception of this game. I love your content and I do enjoy your enthusiasm love for video games. Can't wait to watch the rest of your content throughout the year. Thank you so much positive.
I love your videos, but some of these where you have a specific name for these series i.e. your first impressions video have a specific name, from a marketing stand point you should put the name of the series in the title of the video. Itll draw more people in. Because just going through youtube all you see is just another first impressions video which wont draw a viewer in. Throw the name of this type of series you do into the title of the video will peek a viewers intrest first, not the thumbnail. You dont search youtube by the picture you search by the name and you want your unique title to be the first thing people see to catch their attention. Great videos though.
What do you mean when you say this should've been another game in the inFamous series? Is that thought grounded in reality? inFamous is owned by Sucker Punch / Sony. This is Square Enix. What idea are you trying to suggest here? Square Enix is not allowed to make inFamous-styled games and title it whatever they want?
Also why were you expecting an action RPG…? I watched all the trailers for this in the gaming media leading up to its release and it always looked like an action game not under the RPG umbrella. Was it the Square Enix name? That doesn't track for me either because S-E is the kind of company who also publishes games like Marvel's Avengers and Tomb Raider. The name alone doesn't mean RPGs like it once did.
Not trying to flame, am honestly confused by your expectations and ideas.
I played the demo and I don't mind her character, who said every character has to be likeable unless its a mascot platformer maybe. Many people did not like Joel from TLOU (naughty dog included lol). I played the demo and i will pick up the full game later down the line. The demo was weird tho as i had no idea what i was doing or what was going on. I found a spot and killed crocodiles with my magic for like 15 mins straight.
I like your more positive feel of reviewing, it's not so brash and helps highlight the good in games that many will just ignore
InFamous 1 & 2 much better than this
I don't know how anyone was confused about this being an action RPG, much less a more traditional RPG. I saw a lot of the marketing, and after playing the demo, it's exactly what I thought it would be.
Like…how was the marketing misleading- because it was made by Square Enix? From the moment I first saw it, it was clearly an action adventure game with RPG elements like God of War & Horizon Zero Dawn.
Would it be fair to compare this to the game equivalent of the Willow Disney+ reboot? Medieval world with protagonists using cringe modern teen dialogue?
No it’s not any good
Main character seems fine to me. Dialog isn't cringe like people say. She comes off normal which is the point. Not sure why that's complicated for people to process but most people are idiots after all so not entirely surprised. Game looks decent enough.
I find it funny you mention maybe this game is being sold to the wrong crowd and maybe it's more for Infamous fans. But from I've seen the most positive reviews are coming out of the JRPG reviewers. RPGFan gave it a 80/100 and Gaming Nexus starts off saying he's a big JRPG fan and gave it 95/100. Daveinc also gave it a positive review: also a JRPG focused channel. So maybe it's actually this game is for us and not the mainstream crowd. 🙂
7:45 The health bar is the line under the diamonds on the bottom left. The diamonds are your stamina meter. But yeah the game does have visual indicators of you taking critical damage. Also the right side will show the damage amount you're taking because sometimes you got some enemy that's pelting you with rocks off screen and your character doesn't visually react to it.
i kinda would've preferred another nier game instead of a nier-like
From what I've seen it appears to be too much MCU-ish for me,
but glad infamous fans can get something to scratch their itchier bits.
Ff16 gonna be just as bad hahahah
It is soooo bad. Had they actually had some people who understood how to play video games instead of develop them, they'd have stood a chance at making a decent game. And they need a better story. And Why oh why is it an isekai?
How to make a good game.
1. Have an engaging story
2. Have a theme to your story
3. Fun group of protagonist and a good group of villians
4. Design the actual world with depth and show, dont tell( Be creative with Exposition)
5. DEEP gameplay mechanics but dont be overwhelming and dont have useless mechanics
6. Have a lot of smart ways to interact with the world
7. Have a great ending
Done. Forspoken has none of this.
I’ve been looking at the reviews for the game and getting bummed because it looked like an inFamous/Prototype game in the trailers and demo. I’m glad you spoke a lot about how this game scratches that itch, I’ve been looking for a game like this for a while.
I played the demo for a bit, game is alright, performance is pretty unoptimized, but that’s about all the flaws I saw in the demo. Well other than the protagonist being annoying, but I can turn the voices down and the story didn’t seem that good anyway so I can skip cutscenes, I’d buy it if it was around $20. Not terrible, not amazing
Nothing about this game appeals to me whatsoever.
