Ever since its introduction in 2019, the Apple Card has been powered by Goldman Sachs, but that might change soon. Yesterday Goldman Sachs’ CEO said his company’s deal with Apple could end early, and today a new report claims two other institutions are ready to step in: the Barclays bank and the financial services company Synchrony.
As you might expect for something like this, Apple, Barclays and Synchrony have declined to comment. The report cites “two sources familiar with the matter”.
Apparently, negotiations between Apple and Barclays have been ongoing for “several months”. That said, it may still take many more months for a deal to be reached. JPMorgan Chase has also been in talks with Apple about taking over the Apple Card since last year, according to a previous report.
