In 79 I was a young Marine serving at a air station in north Carolina. Time flies. Thanks for sharing.
I observed a cigar shaped UFO in August of 2012..I watched this craft ..which at first thought it was a large passenger aircraft heading toward Hulman Field in Terre Haute IN. however within a matter of seconds..the craft slowed to the speed of an hot air balloon..probably 1/2 mile in length…through my binoculars..which I hurriedly grabbed…it had 12 flat sides to make up the circumference of the craft…similar to solar panels but were like a dark gray chrome…the craft turned 90 °slowing down the entire time..I'm located in Sullivan In..after 8 to 10 minutes of observing the craft..it disappeared into a black hole in the clear blue sky..it changed my life forever observing this craft

I saw. Huge black cigar shape 2-3 soccer field wide in Sweden Halmstad in the summer 92-93 forgat the exact date blue skie whit my brother and two Swedish couple to that standed next to us it is a huge story whit 3 Jas Gripen trying to like capture it while it was standing still hovering never heard from the government it was way top secret anyway the craft just stop to exist like turning on the light like switch it on and off I never blinked at the moment cause I was ready to see if it was Gonna fly in lightspeed but one of the three gripen jets that was circulating it was flying in the area were it disappeared and they didn't hit anything must have been bazzled like I was I was 12 brother 15 and the swed couple 20-30 age they and we just looked at each other amazed and like stunned no words and we all just continue our ways like nothing ever happened but that day was historcly for my will never forget it in detail and the event just mind-blowing that day I knew we were not alone
I agree this is real. When I was a kid in early 90’s, I saw something looked like that object in the sky too. It just hovered there, and I used binoculars to get a close look. It stayed in the same spot rain or shine for a few days, and then yeah it disappeared! The neighborhood kids and me couldn’t explain what it was at all. But to this day I still have this mental image of it, and it was that cigar shape.
Like the stories that they come up with for the fakes ones and excitement when they are still unidentified or possible

Wash can also stabilize a floating body by vortical up draft and side wash. Not sure when black solar balloons were introduced, but I'm pretty sure when they were around, few studies were done to determine how they would behave in jet wash . . .

I've got two theories to explain UFOs.
1). A breakaway society has been tinkering in the shadows for 10-15 centuries, on technology that they refuse to share with the rest of the world.
2.) An ancient civilization is terrified of us and lives where we don't.
Aliens is not an option in my opinion. Unless they come from this solar system that is, but where might that be? My money would be on Ancient Venusians or, ancient Martian settlers, from Venus.
