I’m playing through Returnal and I honestly don’t blame him. It just feels like you’re just trying so hard only for it to sadistically punish you at points.
If you love it, though, great!
I played this game after they added a save so that probably helped deal with the suffering just a bit

I’m glad I’m not the only one who hated this game. I just don’t understand the praise. There’s practically no story, I mean for Christ sake I looked up the full story cutscenes and it was not even 30 minutes 💀 , the scenery is boring, the mc is boring, the massive amount of time and effort you put into a run only for it to be taken away is so agrivating. I’ve played other roguelikes and they were never this punishing. You were always getting SOME form of progress when you died so it actually felt satisfying not that you just wasted an hour or more. The gameplay is really fun, I like the way they used the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. In that regard and that regard only it did better than most ps5 games I’ve played. The haptic feedback and adaptive triggers never felt better or more utilized in than in Returnal, unless you count Astro’s playroom. But that’s all it does good. The gameplay is fun but I feel like I can’t enjoy it because I constantly am fearful of dying and losing progress. And it’s not even worth progressing because the story is like I said, bad and pretty much non existent. It would be more interesting if there was an actual story.

I'm convinced that people who like this game literally never played a good roguelite before. Any roguelite could be considered "good" when it's the first game in the genre a person experiences.
I started playing Returnal after they added some QOL updates like actually being able to save and having seperate resin drops. Can't say I regret that! My favorite part of the game is you eventually get so familiar with the biomes playing puts in 'the zone' and it's kind of relaxing in a way. I finally got Platinum as well.
As for the endless suffering I think that is part of the narrative, and I think it's interesting that rather than 'this should be a good game that tells a story' the devs went 'we are going to use the game format to tell a story' which resulted in a game that is punishing and unfair and ever-repeating. It's a work of art, where you feel things not because of the story in the game but through the act of playing it. It dares to be incredibly frustrating and hard, and unlike say Soulsborne games the point isn't to 'git gud and overcome the challenge'. Because no matter how good you get, you always end up back where you started. Returnal doesn't punish you in order to encourage to get better and overcome. It punishes you because it's about experiencing grief, and survivor's guilt, and how it will always be with you, and even when you think you've gotten better you can trip up and end up right back at the beginning like you have made no progress at all, stripping everything you thought you had built up.
Suprisingly easy game to master when you’ve played similar games. I’m in the process of getting sunface fragments for the 3rd act.

Got the platinum for this game. Really difficult but worth it. The DLC for it was pretty awesome too.
Well I find it very engaging, fun and not very hard being an average player…shooting is a total pleasure, actual endless suffering to me are From Software Games. I will put it one point below Hades.

Idk, the first few deaths were frustrating, then things kinda just clicked. After a few hours of insane patience with the learning curve, I can now comfortably clear out the rooms and take down the bosses with minimal hassle. I guess you just have to give yourself to it in order to maintain some sanity.

0:28 you can get Xsxes everywhere in Germany cus noone wants em, ps5 same story in Germany tho, sold out everywhere I looked.
It might have been added with a patch, but there is a way to save and come back to your run. You just can't save and load your game again if you bork everything
