I definitely disagree with everyone who says he should be voiced by Charles Martinet. Do you know how annoying it would be having to listen the original voice but in full sentences? I would be done with money in a couple of minutes. Not saying Chris' voice for Mario is great, but it's not terrible. Could have someone else have done a better job, I have no doubt. But, if we are stuck with Chris, I think that's fine. We've barely even heard the voice and it's far less annoying than what it could of been. Imagine Chris trying to do a heavy accent. It would come off as heavy cringe.
I think it will be good. If people want an Italian Mario. They can watch the 90s one.

The interesting thing about the Mario Model is that if you put it side-by-side with a model from the Video Games it genuinely looks on point. All they did was give it a slight extra touch of Semi-realism.
Something I notice, especially after seeing your reaction, is that to most people Bowser looks relatively the same, and that's to be expected with a mostly fictional creature. So then when people see Mario just after being given almost a slight expectation of just "the same" so to speak, it throws them off a little. It actually looks really good and is more true to the original design than you might think. (õ∀ó )ゝ
i'm personally reluctantly accepting of chris as mario, i don't think it'll completely ruin the movie, it looks great – but man it doesn't make sense for mario/luigi to not have their voices, it's a core part of their characters.
i often see the argument that it wouldn't work for movie length as it would be annoying or weird, or that keeping the voice up would be hard. you clearly haven't seen martinet at conventions or any of his other VA if that's how you see it, imo. dude has done mario for extended periods and within just that STILL has a really dynamic range and tons of personality – he's long ago made mario a natural voice/persona, idk why the internet is acting like it could never work.

I feel the OG Mario VA might not be able to speak consistently enough for the role. Being able to do a voice is one thing, but to be able to competently keep it up, say lines correctly, and maintain the accent might of been too heavy of a task.

The Mario movie has been bothering me and I think I know why… It's because I keep comparing it to the games.
At first I was dead-set on the problem being the casting… but I've basically realized the casting doesn't actually matter. I think no matter what voices you try and give Mario characters it will feel cursed. Best example is Mario Sunshine, like the performances were neither bad or good, but see how subsequent games; galaxy and odyssey went back to gibberish, grunts and very light and brief voices.
I don't think Mario characters should talk or rather Mario characters in the video games shouldn't talk, you could cast the absolute best and it would still feel weird and uncanny. Juxtapose this to Sonic the Hedgehog where him speaking feels more natural because Sonic talks in his games and has for a long time. Making the transition to the Sonic movie more believable/acceptable.
So for me, in order to enjoy the Mario movie its important to separate the 2 mediums. The Mario games and the Mario movie are no where close to being the same thing. I'm just going to disassociate the 2 where possible. Mario is a celebrity in the games, He's a foreigner in the movie. Mario is Italian in the games, He's North American in the movie.
Hopefully by doing this I can appreciate the movie for what it is without constantly feeling uncomfortable and put off from it being different then what I expected. But we'll see in time.
Do I wish Chris Pratt tried a bit harder at the voice? Yeah.
Do I think the movie is still going to be great? Yeah.
