The most balanced review from someone that actually tried to like the game
The way the demo was done was a mistake, they tried to offer too much instead of easing players into the mechanics and abilities. It was too overwhelming and like many others I had hdr issues and couldn’t really see what was going on no matter how much I would fidget with the video settings. Once it’s on sale I’ll probably pick it up.
It's a great game great character development. And its Tanta Frey from now on!!

On the other side, unfortunately, aside from mindless individuals judging the game graphics from a 720p Twitch stream, I have seen too many people discredit and throw sh*t at this game for having a female protag (dejavu of the FF13 era) and even more because of her skin color.
I just hope this isn't going to bomb so Square continues making games on Luminous and doesn't axe it.
I completely agree about her swearing. The dialogue is subpar, and the fact that every other comment is an F bomb.. despite the fact that I'm an adult that swears and not a prude either.. was incredibly annoying. Between that and the sluggish combat mechanics, this is a HARD pass for me. Gorgeous graphics, but that's not enough for a triple A game at this point, especially considering that beautiful presentations are a dime a dozen these days.
The writing seems soooooo bad
I was initially super excited about this game, but then I tried the demo and wasn't very happy with it. The combat felt odd and clunky, and the menus were a bit overwhelming with the spell selection. It sounds like devs didn't make the best choices with the demo so it's refreshing to hear that it makes more sense when you play the full game. I didn't pre order it but I'll definitely pick it up at some point, probably when it goes on sale.
Sounds good, but if it's that much shorter than stated (or that short in general) might be one I wait to get on sale down the line.
