I'm a trainer and I've recently been given the opportunity to desensitize a GSD who lunges and wants to get to the cats. I've been using CC&D.. do you rebonded I come back to the clients to work with the dog each time before I allow the owners do it.
My dog chases my cat a lot your video is very helpful now I have to start working on this because my cat is very aggressive and he doesn't want to be bothered!!
I wish i can walk my goldendoddle witout having to worry how she pulls me for a cat🤦♀️
My puppy is biting my two cats on the neck. I'm very worried that she will harm them. I haven't got the dog trained to stay yet.
My dog does not like the cat. if he is on place he is fine but stares. If he is lose he will always chase. But will stop if the cat turns and challenges the dog. Not sure what to do
We have a hound that’s almost 3 that we’ve had since he was 7 months old. Just got a 1 year old cat today. We keep the cat in a large, comfy crate (so he’s safe and secure) in one of our bedrooms with the door shut. We have gotten them acquainted (always with supervision for short periods) with each other and our dog is mostly just curious, but can tell our dog is jealous and insecure. I can’t go in to see the cat and shut the dog out without him getting very insecure and whining loudly. I give him the lion’s share of attention (also because he’s up my a** right now if I don’t ) to compensate. Any advise to get us ALL through this time? Lol…
Hello, I am going to try this more frequently. We haven’t been able to get our cat and dog out of this cycle for 3-4 years. The behavior has decreased overall but they cannot exist independently still. Do you have any further suggestions?
Need help! Just brought a doggy in for potential adoption. I am having a hard time having the dog stop chasing our cats.
My dog killed our kitten this morning. He was very protective with her but lately he chases all cats and he killed the little one.
I'm overwhelmed with grief
My German shepherd does really well as long as the cat doesn’t run he will sit and lick and hold the cat without hurting but when my cat starts running around he gets super excited and becomes hard to get his attention away from the cat
FANTASTIC video! I have a min pin, and he does want to chase. What he can’t communicate is that he wants the cat to chase in return!
No my puppy chases my indoor and out door cats!! 😢
I have a pit bull and I need help we have to keep them separated
So I’ve been working with my puppy since I’ve got him to leave the cat alone and my cat is actually now sitting back in my lap and next to me while the puppy is sitting next to me on the other side without even thinking I got out to get his chicken brothfor breakfast and left him next to the cat he did not pursue the cat so it is starting to work
My puppy is driving me crazy. She's chasing my cats and grabbing their tails. I've tried everything and she's just excessively chasing them still
I saw the gray border collie not leaving the cat alone is my problem she won't hurt the cat wants to sniff and put her noise in her furs .but now even the very old dog who was best frends with the cat is starting to hassle her
Also the cat wants to play sometimes but it soon gets too much and the cat will come and call the dog
I have a deaf Corgi who likes to herd my cats. He's a good boy but getting his attention isn't always easy. So it's hard to stop him once he starts running.
Just adopted two old dogs from the Humane Society because we were afraid they would “off” them (censorship is real abuse) and they would have. Both dogs weigh about 50 pounds one is a hound dog of some sort and the other looks like it’s part lab (black). In our home currently we have sn Akbash that weighs 140 pounds and he is the livestock guardian dog for the property and goes all around and sits outside the large chicken yard on his tall amount of dirt guarding. We have had in the most recent past a female pitbull that died of old age and she was awesome and we had our other dog which was half lab and half German Shepherd who passed away after being sprayed directly in the face by a skunk at point blank Range out on the back of the farm. He was extremely healthy and six years old and was awesome and our cats were never bothered by any of the dogs. We brought the two dogs in from the Humane Society and the hound dog immediately aggressively attacked our Akbash in the driveway when the Akbash just walked up to say hi and sniff everybody and I ended up getting extremely aggressively bit on my thigh and on my wrist and the bite went into the tendon of my wrist, and I’m 62 years old. The dog that bit me was the new adopted hound dog, and it turned into an extremely aggressive dog fight, and the Akbash pinned the hound dog to the ground on my handicap ramp and the fight ended. I examined both dogs and none of the dogs were hurt, but I was severely injured and had to go to an urgent care. The black dog that is part lab came into the house and destroyed the inside of my house immediately chasing the cats and though he does have manners as far as being told to lay down and sit and respond well to his name, someone in the past, hit him in the top of the skull and did massive damage to the top of his head and then took him into the Humane Society and lied to them about how the dog was injured. The Humane Society sold up the top of his head. The only reason those people are probably alive right now is because I don’t know who they are because I have a zero tolerance for anyone that abuses animals, children, the elderly or any creature that is weaker. In my opinion, when we need about 1 million more people like me in this country and there wouldn’t be any animal abuse because people would be afraid for their lives if they abused an animal and that’s the way it really should be not like we have it now at all. so, the black dog just immediately zeros in on the cats and he will stop at nothing to try to get at them and has already torn up my house in a very short period of time. We built a door with utility wire out of two by fours and hung it on the master bedroom and we have had to keep the black dog in the master bedroom with food and water for the past two weeks until the muzzles arrived. Now we have light lightweight and very comfortable muzzle on the nose of the dog that chases the cats and on the nose of the dog that wants to attack the Akbash. We are training with the muzzles and with treats and allowing the dogs to walk around in the living room, kitchen, dining room and office as long as they have the muzzles on, and the muscles will allow for drinking and eating, but not for barking or biting. We are continuously giving the shelter dogs very positive attention and loving on them and talking to them with what we call the “cartoon voice“ and giving treats, and we also lower our voices And use the word. “no“ which the dogs already know very well from their possible former existence. The muzzles are not on really tight, but they are snug so the dogs cannot get out of them. It is taking some getting used to, but I am never gonna get bit again and I’m not gonna allow a dog to kill one of my cats or the rescue kittens. The cats have never had to ever be afraid of anything and had a very peaceful mellow life until we brought the two rescue dogs in and it’s only the one dog that wants to go after the kittens and at his age I just can’t believe he behaves that way. It is obvious to me that the former owners spent no time training either dog. People are truly horrible. For the two first two weeks that we had the rescue dogs, we have kept them in the master bedroom and we eventually left two days ago to go run some errands and when we came back, the hound dog mix had jumped up on our bed and urinated all over our curtains and our pillows and our bed. He also urinated all over the front of my dresser, and the urine ran down into my drawers and got all over my clothes. In my lifetime of having many dogs, I have never had dogs with behavior problems, but I still do not regret adopting these two dogs because they would’ve been “offed” And they just need love and they just need someone to spend a lot of time working with them. Thank you for the videos, but I’m gonna have to go about it in a little bit different way than you do because I’m not a 20-year-old guy with extreme amounts of energy and extremely athletic like you are. I am going to have to keep using the muzzles and using treats with the muzzles and things like that until I can get these animals trained so they’re not going to be biting me, biting my other dog or biting the cats and I just have to work on the training. I’ve now removed all the curtains from the inside of the house because I don’t want them destroyed until I can get this training done.

I have a Yorkie Puppy who is OK with my cats except for the little one I have to keep separate from them. Every chance ge gets he runs into the hallway to terrorize Frannie. I know he got the idea from my other cats. They are both 18 now and I know I willll be lucky to have them a few more years. I'd like Frannie to stay with us but she is too afraid. She is a very sweet small black cat with a white marking under her belly knowm as n Angels Kiss. Black cats with some white were spared from being killed by the superstitious English settlers.
I can get my dog and cat to relax in the same room when I am watching them. But the moment I am not watching, or not paying attention to the dog, the dog can suddenly start to chase the cat. So what's the next step for them to get along when I am not there?
We have tried everything and our dog continues to break and chase cat. Any other tips or videos?
The cat really does an awesome job here
The town stray showed up at my house after 6 months of running from everyone. Now I have to get him to not eat my cats.
My dog Jack just wants to chase my cat Rain but Rain keeps hissing at him it’s a pain
My dog chases one cat more than the other. With another cat sometimes they play chasing eachother.
A 5-month-old French Bulldog puppy was recently adopted. I already have 4 cats that get along great with my Golden Retriever. The puppy chases the cats every chance she gets. It can be hard to intervene because she will circle the furniture to avoid me. I suspect her reactions are partially because the cats are new to her.
Just rescued a cat that is skin & bones off the street. My dog Pete (rescue also, we think he is half pit, 1/4 cattle dog and 1/4 lab. He’s 6yrs, and had been dumped in front of the shelter by his previous family at 5. I’m trying to get him to get along with said cat and it’s finally starting to work😭😭 he would literally vibrate shake if he saw her, just completely locked in. I’ve been treat training him by rewarding him every time he sees her and doesn’t react!
New 6 month old pup thinks the cats are squeaky toys. He’s been tagged in the face twice and that didn’t stop it.
Thanks for the very good tricks and explanations on training your dog for that instance and teaching us that diversion is the best secret in the book. You’re my last resort before considering to rehome at this point so I can’t wait to apply it and train my dog to ignore my cat!
Mostly, thanks for all the pointers: I used to yell at my dog when she’d become agressive towards my cat, but using a calm voice already seems to appease all tensions. Will post a comment on their progress
Awesome video. I know the video is 11 years old, but I am assuming that this technique is still the one to use. I brought my son's cat to my house to take care of him while my son has his house on the market to sell. Although, my dog already knew the cat, now that the cat is in her environment, she will not give the cat any kind of peace. She wants to play and chase the cat and keep an eye on the cat at all times. The cat will hiss at her, but it does not detour the attempts at play. She even got a scratch at one point and that has not detoured her. The cat of course would rather be left alone. I have tried distracting her and even keeping her on leash to understand being near me is rewarding. It works for a while after I release her, but then she soon goes back to following the cat everywhere. I plan to try your strategies in hopes that it calms things down. Thank you.
so i thank my dog chooses becse she dont mess with kittens or the big tom cat but regular cats she wants to chase
MY DOG IS TARABLE MY CAT IS LOOSEING FUR FROM STRESS BECAUSE OF IT
HOW DO I TRAIN MY CAT TO LEAVE MY DOG ALONE😭
Yes, but the cat is not really scared. She stays around so you have the opportunity to train and redirect the dog. Mine are super scared, run away immediately and hide and are not to be seen for a day or two… difficult to train the dog if the cat doesn’t show up… 🤔
