were gonna do butt to face! lol sir, sir!
I am so glad you showed a non aggressive dog, I have 1 but he is so high strung meeting new dogs cause he just wants to play, and there are not a lot of videos about that, I also have 2 other dogs that have the jerk gene and I watch your videos constantly for help
There's a husky, Berkshire, at front street animal shelter in Sacramento. She may be put down because she very scared. How to deal with dogs afraid of their own shadow would be nice to see
I've never seen such a narcissist, both you and your dog prince. I've been looking on YouTube for help to stop my male Siberian huskies from fighting with each other. When my boys fight it's like nothing I've seen on YouTube! They are on their hide legs going at each others throats. I always step in and attempt to pull them apart and yes, I've been bitten severely. Just a few days ago I nearly lost a thumb. I'm now seeking help from mushers because your videos and those of other dog trainers on YouTube are useless. Also, I want to mention "Prince" wouldn't stand a chance against my large male. Doberman's don't have a thick coat of hair for protection, he would be torn up within seconds. Go ahead think you and your dog are the world's greatest!
DUUUDE please stop with the 20 min commentary voice overs. Impossible to watch these lately.
I live in a trailrer park and people do not keep their dogs indoors and let them run about. One dog saw my dog as i was walking it back home and it barked, like one or two barks per few seconds and it kind of trotted not ran, not jumped or lunged, after us and then would back up and get closer and back up. Not in jumps but like walking. It also growled, i cant remember it if showed teeth and it had a small tail so i couldnt see behind it if it was wagging. I was too busy pulling my dog to walk home and i paid more attention to my dogs reaction. What do you think this dog was going to do? Play or attack? My dog is not neutered. If youre curious what my dog was doing, he was turning to look at the dog and doing play bows and doing that zig zag thing where theyre close to the ground like how a sphinx looks. My dog also didnt bark back nor did he lick his lips, his mouth was slightly open because we were coming back from a walk in the heat
Joel, nice to show good dogs so we know what to strive for. Thanks.
Your calm approach and emphasis on safety are exactly what we need to create positive experiences for our dogs. Thank you for sharing your expertise! 👍
How would we stop leash reactivity ?
Please respond. I’m in a wheelchair and have a pitbull. She pulls around and the turn and Change direction it a little tougher for me
Huge fan of you beckham your one of the best trainers i watch, seen a video of you on instagram and boy was there alot of hate comments.. shocks me how much people are uneducated to dog training
What breed is that spotted dog in the first clip?
Prince IS a REAL Prince! He’s SO Good! He’s teaches good!❤
Hi, Joel.
Merry Christmas to your and your family.
Thank you for your wonderful channel. I’ve watched so many of your videos and learned so much, but I have a tough situation now. You'll see how tricky it is when you realize how rarely it happens, but when it does, it’s very violent.
I have an almost perfect golden retriever—male, 4 years old, intact, not a rescue, and well-bred. He has never shown aggression for most of his life, but due to certain experiences and possibly maturity, he now has a latent issue that’s incredibly hard to correct. It happens so rarely, but when it does, it causes emotional and financial distress and harm to the other dogs and potentially also to him.
Here’s the history: Two years ago, he was attacked by a Great Dane twice his size. My dog approached in his usual happy-go-lucky way, dancing left and right on his front legs, tail wagging high (an argument the other owner later used defensively) to sniff the Great Dane’s behind. The Great Dane was extremely stiff, so I sensed something was up but couldn’t intervene quickly enough. Without any barking or growling as a warning, the Great Dane bit him viciously on the neck and wouldn’t let go until I rushed to pull him off. Only through my intervention did my dog get away. My dog used that moment to retaliate with a shoulder bite before I managed to break up the fight entirely. But since it was self defense, I wasn't mad or worried at all about him retaliating.
Since then, there have been a few more scuffles where he defended himself against attacks. A medium-sized dog once bit him in the face, and another time a pit bull jumped on him roughly from behind. Those also led to him defending himself with counter attacks. In all these cases, I found his reactions understandable since the other dogs initiated the attacks. These incidents reinforced my belief that his reactions were appropriate and situational. Regardless, I had to intervene and pull apart the dogs, and I was hurt twice as well.
Until recently, I had 100% trust in him. His fight-flight-or-freeze responses seemed spot-on. However, four months ago, this trust started to crumble. He was persistently humped by a friend’s dog. At first, we told the other dog to knock it off repeatedly, but then I made the mistake of suggesting we let my dog handle it himself, thinking it would be more effective for him to correct the behavior directly. Unfortunately, for the first time, his fight response was way too strong and too soon. After another shake-off of constant humping, he completely flipped. Within the five seconds it took me to stop him, the other dog had suffered six bites to the face. It cost us over €1,000 in medical bills and caused a lot of heartbreak and suffering for the owner. I was shocked but tried to stomach it, thinking it was a one-time incident.
Unfortunately, I was wrong. A week ago, he chased down a beaver and roughed it up pretty badly until I managed to intervene. I rationalized it as prey drive or typical hunting behavior, even though it felt awful. But now there’s been a third incident, and I can’t justify or excuse it anymore. It seems like a pattern.
Today, a harmless little French Bulldog he knows tried to take its own ball back, snapping slightly at my dog—not even touching him in the attempt. My Golden freaked out and went at the Frenchie in an uncontrolled manner. I had to try and pull him off for 10 to 20 seconds while screaming and choking him on his collar, only to have him slip through my fingers and watch him go after the poor Frenchie again. That dog had never caused him any real trouble except for the minor snap at the start. It didn’t even try to fight back.
All these encounters have been with other males, three of which were intact, and the Pit Bull was a neutered rescue. I don’t think I can responsibly allow him to roam off-leash anymore or let him interact freely with other dogs. Since this behavior has appeared so suddenly, and he is otherwise extremely friendly and happy, I feel helpless in correcting it. I follow your advice and assert leadership, correcting any misbehavior. I put up with no nonsense and never let him get away with any BS and I'll do it all freaking day long if that's what it takes. But if his stress response is so extreme, then I may need to keep him leashed and avoid dog meetings in general. He doesn't seem stable enough to handle the different situations thrown at him by reality. This breaks my heart because I used to have a perfectly socialized and well-behaved dog I could fully trust. Now, I feel like I’ve lost that.
I live in Berlin, Germany, which makes in-person meetings completely unviable. I've only met positive-only trainers and wouldn't know where to turn to.
Is there any way you can imagine to help us out?
I'm sending the bet wishes and regards and my utmost respect and thanks for the content an valuable work that you do.
In tears,
Philipp
I watch every video, even though my dogs are senior and excellently behaved 😭 I always recommend your videos to people who express struggles with their dog to me, I truly think your method is the most balanced and simple, with the best results.

Hey Joel,
Can you make video on “policing” dogs that have to be the play police.
Thank’s for all the knowledge.
Joel Beckman your being abusive to dogs knock it off!
So, question. Small dogs are afraid of the world sometimes. Isn’t this a breed specific thing? Jack Russels aren’t afraid of anything. Down here they jump into the freezing ocean when the waves are going, to fetch a ball. They take on any dog (can be very aggressive). Also Yorkies are pretty badass and Chihuahuas too and then there’s pugs and frenchies and Westies, very ballsy. This is a Papillon. Basically bred to sit on a lap. Different temperament. Please correct me if I’m wrong😅
What would you do with an even more aggressive dog than the first dog?Is there a video for this? Yes, my dog wears a muzzle but he thinks he should fight any other dogs
