When you read the words it sounds exactly like what Burke would say.
The story does not make any sense whatsoever… before colonizing the planet, Weyland Yutani would have performed a complete worldwide, geological, mineral site survey using drones and satellites.. they world have spotted the derelict spacecraft and quarantined the entire planet .. plus Weyland knows the entire background story of what happened to the Nostrmono when it landed at the same exact site…. what they forgot about the first movie… you got to be kidding me.. this story is tortured and contrived.
Just how did the Xenomorph know to cut the power 😂
Real Simple: Burke was a “Company-Man” Lowlife with No Delusions of Morality. Dassit. Thanx for yet Another Excellent ep Mr. AT !
"Company men" in real life aren't much different.
"How can they impound it if they don't know about it?"
Even when being cocooned in the hive, Burke still managed to the slimiest thing there!
I like how Burke was so ambitiously focused on greed that he went to LV-426 himself and was in the thick of it, seemingly unconcerned with the risk posed to himself until seconds before his demise.
They could have chucked them into the orbit of some far away moon waaaaaayyyy far away from our system or something and sent a research vessel there keeping it away from earth.
The idea of using some animal as a weapon has always been dumb to me. It's too unpredictable and too unreliable.
Obviously there are some liberties taken with the dialogue I distinctly remember Ripley telling Burke happy to disappoint you and she said you don't see the aliens fucking each other over for a percentage
Ridley should have known that giving the ships location to the company was a bad idea… she didn’t know a colony west here though. So it’s all burks fault.
If you're cool with using xenomorphs as weapons then why not just use gas or bacteria? If outright killing is your goal then that crap would be more effective than using xenomorphs… Plus it's easier to transport and it's effectively invisible… Man, the people running WY's weapons division sound like a bunch of idiots.
Fantastic video 😊
A greedy corporate douche, all the way until his own demise.
It’s all work , plot , & play until a facehugger plants an Egg 🥚 in your chest cavity! I bet Burke no longer thought they were an endangered species after that!
Everyone wants to think they're a Ripley, or Hicks, or maybe Bishop. But really we're all just Burke.
The ironic part is, is in retrospect; Burke isn't wrong on some of his arguments. If the Colonial Marines had fought the Aliens knowing what they were up against, and with their full complement of weaponry allowed, they'd have kicked ass. One thing that always surprises me is that he didn't try to change angle of attack on Ripley. Tried arguing that the company wants a sample in order to study the Xenomorph to refine containment / elimination strategies. That he could have pointed out that these ones were found on an alien derelict, implying that wherever they originated, they'd already been spread around via interstellar means. Meaning that it would only be a matter of time until humanity encountered them again, and perhaps in less a convenient way as 'dormant eggs in a cargo ship'. Know thy enemy. She'd have been a lot more receptive to that argument.
'I am with the company and I'm here to help'
yup that's horror
He wasn’t just greedy about the specimens he was miserly about the risk ( mercenaries would have been far more expensive and likely to fuck him over then the marines but also very expensive)
I wonder how no one saw it at that crazy angle.
Later Burke grown into a lovely old man in Stranger things 😆 as well as Joyce 😆
I just love how the characters in all Alien films dress like its still pre-2000, and idk why
Burke was stupid. I know it was needed for the story but he could have made better arguments.
"We need it for bio-weapons department" is not good argument to say the least.
"Look Ripply, these monsters are somehow compatible with our biology. We have to find out how and why. Also they are treasure of possible medicine and material research.
Also no nukes, we have real, functioning alien ship on this planet. We will mount full scale military operation to reclaim the planet and take that ship. These samples, we are taking them into stasis. They will never see any planet. They will be kept in orbit, all research on live specimens will be done in the orbit. We are not insane to risk full scale infestation on Earth".
I wonder how many people saw paul Reiser on the street and called him a bastard
This story is why I find the current What If… Storyline to be hard to contend with. Burke just wasn't redeemable to me. He's a fantastic villain, though. Superb. When the other monster in the room has a human face. Always one of the great themes of this series. Right to the wall.
The scariest thing about this movie is that people like Burke actually exist.
When the author of this talks about germs getting loose 2 years before COVID lol
Regarding the corporate that reviewed Burk's reports, I must say that it's easy to make judgments and criticize at the comfort of an office and a safe space.
Burk had to make decisions on the spot then and there, under life and death circumstances. For someone working under pressure, he did his best.
Now don't get me wrong, what he did was despicable. But credit should be given where credit is due.
Is there any infos about the "green parasites" that the marine group previously encountered?
burke is a sociopath.
I have an interesting take on Burke based on the movie (I didn't research outside articles on him). I think he first went without a basic plan other than to find out about the Aliens to see if they were real and build a plan to get sample back. Plan #2 was to recruit Ripley and the other Marines to help him take samples back. Bishop was already on board and I think he thought the others would not really care or try to stop him. When Ripley stands up to him, his plans turn more nefarious and he goes with Plan #3 to put embryos into Ripley and Newt. I actually don't think he really was out to kill anyone or get them killed initially but was definitely all about the priority of saving the Aliens. I think his initial fantasy would be that the others would just let him take samples back and perhaps take part of the cut, he only turned on them once Ripley stood up to him. In a weird way, I don't think he hated or had a nefarious plan for Ripley and was sincere in some of his early comments to her. A good example is how he helps Ripley against Gorman in the APC and also provides other advice to support the Marines and Ripley initially. However, he was all about $$$ and people were expendable.
