This patent situation reminds of that one episode of Time Squad, (may it rest in peace) where this guy was selling juice to win an award and then got angry because this other person made popsicles and said that it was just his idea but frozen, then some from the crowd told him he was just jealous.
14:15 Japan has had to deal with China and their lack of copyright/patent law more than America has, and as we know both those countries hate eachother, so as with most things in Japan, its shaped by subtle racism lol
PALWORLD WILL WIN AND NINTENDO WILL LOSE I GOT MY RIGHTS
The patent system really wasn’t set up for the digital space, which is why patent sharks have become such a problem
Gibson litterally sues other guitar manufacturers over shapes. This is nothing.
Moon Channel explained this better
10:00 no, that's not how that works… you are comparing a full release by a triple-A studio from an established franchise to an indie game in early access. These numbers are not indicative of whether or not Palworld is a mainstay.
I absolutely despise it when youtubers use some random example that makes no logical sense, stop that.
Pokémon has always been garbage.
Who cares, it has done what Nintendo has been refusing to do. Palworld is far better than pokemon games these days. The gameplay has remained the same for nearly 25 years, just new pokemon in every game. It's more like a cash grab now. Palworld may be rough on the edges but it's far more interesting and gameplay is far better.
Nintendo actually lost the case lol.
Nintendo trying to own a playstyle is absolutely crazy to me
10:31 Why would anyone go back to play a game they have already finished? A lawsuit isn't a content update.
we need to make a law that defends the smaller companions, and how the hell are they getting away with this pocket pair did if first show that to the judge case closed
What they really want to do is strong arm them in to a settlement resulting pocket pair to pay Nintendo and injunction against the game
Pocketpair explained that it’s being accused of violating Nintendo’s rights to Patent No. 7545191, Patent No. 7493117, and Patent No. 7528390, which it said were filed between February and July 2024.
It’s important to note that all three of these patents have been existing in some form since 2021, as listed on Google Patents (7545191, 7493117, 7528390), although Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have refreshed or modified them this year at the dates specified by Pocketpair – this is difficult for us to determine in detail without having in-depth knowledge of the Japanese patent system.
Likewise, it’s difficult to ascertain what exactly each of these patents does – 7545191 seems to describe the inputs required to throw Poké Balls (or Pal Spheres) to catch creatures as well as to summon them onto the field for combat. The other two patents appear to be connected to the areas of character movement, collision, and pathfinding.
I've actually played a bootleg "Pokemon with Guns". It was called "Pokemon Diamond". It had unique sprites and everything.
You call the Pokemon on a cellphone and they would come running to help. And they could even get lost or attacked by other pokemon leaving you without backup. They'd call to let you know.
You'd give the pokemon guns to increase ATK I think. I always remember the weird line that came up " a fearless smile appeared on X face".
Bizarre and would 10/10 play again if I could.
game concept patent is seriously jist a scam
God I despise lawyers
12:24 I would have used goodra.
Elden Ring got boosted by it's DLC, hence the spike in players. It's since dipped, and hovers around the 30K – 35K mark. And considering how their older games are sitting around the 1000 – 3000 mark, I'm pretty sure this is just normal. The fact Palworld is doing so well despite not having any DLC is actually showing that it does have some longevity behind it.
All Nintendo had to do was sue them over the misuse of their IP. Some of these designs do NOT pass the "idiot in a hurry" test.
I think Pocket Pair should learn from this and come out with a sort of new palworld that brings more originality and making a more marketable game, but what do I know I’m just a guy on the internet. I enjoyed palworld and pokemon.
I think if this was any other company than Nintendo people would be more willing to admit that Pal World intentionally flirted with plagiarism to sell the game, likely due to a lack of want to innovate
Yeppers
Watch Moon Channel's video on this, Nintendo isn't actually the biggest dog in this fight, Sony is the US and Palworld is South Vietnam.
12:25 What are you on about? Those don't look "exactly like" Pokeballs? They're so unlike one another that you'd never make that comparison if they didn't have the same function. One is a crystal ball with gold ornamentation while the other is an iconically two coloured tech-y ball designed to open in the middle. Fucking Bakugan have more in common with Pokeballs in design than whatever the Pal balls are called.
I can get saying Pals look almost exactly like Pokemon, even though all but a few are simply done in a similar style to Pokemon, but that ball comparsion is just beyond absurd.
Fuck Nintendo and fuck all the fanboys defending it. I'm so sick of everyone claiming to be against late stage capitalism or corporate scumminess suddenly becoming cyberpunk level corpo lovers because they're nostalgic for this specific billion dollar corporation.
I’ve heard in a lot of the tech industry big companies hold tons of patents so everyone has MAD so they don’t sue each other
If it was a copyright infringement lawsuit I would have been fine with it.
But since it's a patent infringement lawsuit over, among others, the capture mechanic in the game, fuck Nintendo.
It not rly about liking pocketpair. Its about very much dissliking nintendo and their scum.
Nintendo shouldn’t even want to win this case, that precedent would stifle game development to the point that Nintendo would become a legal company that occasionally gets to release a game.
Fun Fact: In Japan, their copyright laws don't have a fair use clause. This doesn't necessarily have anything to do with this particular case specifically, I just wanted to highlight how different Japanese copyright law is to US copyright law.
