The movie kicked ass. It was super funny too. I loved how the wizards are bad ass in the film.
There is a prequel book, called – Dungeons and Dragons: Honor among Thieves, The Road to Neverwinter
Mystery science theater fan?
Black Dragon just has acid reflux.
If it's just a fun romp through known locales of dnd and good action and comedy I'd be very happy and these trailers make it look like it is that so I'm optimistic, also chonk dragon.
I liked the scene of blocking dragonfire with a wall of ice and overall the animations as well as some very good lines of the 1st… and the Robe of Eyes and items of the 2nd… and the plot from the 3rd…
I think the helmet is a modified Helm of Blasting (the original targets one creature at a time).
Also, how dare you, Ted! Jeremy Irons helped sell the first film. He portrayed Profian as a good D&D villain: a megalomaniacal, classist, power-hungry, duplicitous mage, obsessed over a potent artifact that would give him dominion over the land. His role almost required that level of over-the-top acting.
The rest of the cast was pretty good (especially the dwarf), except for the Empress' flat deliveries, and Snails being a bit annoying through the first half (but I see it as an actual character trait), although he provided some emotional pathos in the second half. I will admit, though, that the sequel-baiting and unexplained reversal of Snails' death at the end was unnecessary and could've been handled better.
For me, the first was better than the third, and the second was not better, just different than the first; so about equally good.
I'm also going on a limb and gonna say the character using green flame blade is a Thayan Knight.
I love that they have the Red Wizards of Thay in it. I'm guessing the Lich it shows is the one from Dead in Thay. I'm wondering If it is him if he'll be trying to make up for his failure in Doomvault with whatever this Horn is I'm guessing that has something to do with the Tyranny of Dragons judging from the Cult of the Dragon cult members. Either way I hope it does well.
Ted, as far as good bad movies, do you mean like "Evil Dead" and "Army of Darkness"? If so, very much agree. Also, I did see the first D&D movie in the theater, but I still haven't managed to see the others because I can't find them available anywhere I have access to (i.e. amazon prime). My perspective on the movie is that it does look neat to me and honestly, we get so few movies even vaguely D&D adjacent that even if it isn't "good" I'm still happy to have any official D&D movie. To folks that haven't been playing as long and are maybe more used to the level of popularity it has now, I can understand why they might be more discerning and not be as welcoming to a not up to snuff D&D movie – but (and this is kinda-old person talk) as someone who played more back when it was still pretty out of the mainstream and by and large people made fun of you for playing, again to even have any movie incorporating the actual game details etc is really cool just out and out. So, I would definitely see it – and ideally it is "good" enough that non-gamers and the like will enjoy it on its own merits as well and that that will bring more interest to the game/rpg's in general.
Having said that, it is still a little unnerving that Hasbro put the movie studio/branch responsible for this movie up for sale (at least I'm pretty sure that is what I read, though definitely please correct me if I'm wrong on that) recently, but the fact that they are still releasing trailers, even if the movie has been slightly pushed back, makes me think that it will still get a release no matter what give that surely its finished production and maybe even post-production for the most part by now, which would hopefully mean that even if money is tight with that branch of the company it won't impact this release. Maybe it would cut into the promotion of the movie going forward, but that may have already been paid for and/or allocated for and if so then maybe that wouldn't even be affected. I just really hope everything goes ok in terms of just getting it into theaters. Even if it doesn't do spectacularly I'll still be grateful to have a new D&D movie period.
some of my notes: the scars look like giant runes, the snowy village in the begining is probably one of the 10 towns, i disagree on the sahuagin, my guess it could be a knuckelhead trout (i know big guess)
Kinda getting a Ash Army of Darkness fills and to me that's not a bad thing!!!
I am manifesting it too!!! I want it to be fantastic and for them to make more!! (Edit: I hope they made this move 3hrs long and medium to fast-paced all the way through)
Will be happy with a good solid movie.
Dude, they legit dove into a gelatinous cube. Awesome
Spells:
Gust of Wind, I suspect, from the Thayan
Thunderwave from Simon
Green Flame Blade obvs.
Xenk was rolling divine smite on that sword
the red powder thing…that I don’t know. Maybe something like a cloudkill? Or since we’ve seen that effect around a teleport maybe a Thayan version of Thunderstep?
Dimension Door
Lightning bolt
I will likely see it but have no real hope. It really looks like they are just going to make fun of d&d. I get what you’re saying about games being goofy, but usually you’re all having a good time, not just making fun of it. But then again, I like slightly more serious games. Jokes welcome, joke characters are not.
Have you seen the new Willow? That is a great d&d series.
I personally am quite optimistic, it captures the same goofy fun energy of a group of friends playing D&D, and honestly that's what I prefer. Grimdark doesn't really work for this kind of setting, if it was something like Dragonlance or even something in Ravenloft this would definitely be a little too campy. But being a generic Faerun setting, I think the tone is good. I'm definitely going to go see it.
Small thing. Green-Flame Blade (according to D&Dbeyond) originally released in sword coast adventurers guide.
Something I noticed early on; in the battle scene, when the Black Dragon attacked, it's allies look like they're members of the Cult of the Dragon (judging from the hats and shoulder pads).
5:40
Not a flametongue axe.
She dips the axe into the molten metal/magma current to have incandescent material adhere to the edge. The scene shows how she takes the axe out of it.
It's probably going to be both dumb and fun to watch, that's my expectation. If it delivers on the second I don't mind the first.
Also, might be worth trying to just mute from the beginning, and turn on captions if you need to avoid music? I couldn't hear anything on the first watch through anyway (I watched it separately on their channel instead) so it isn't a particular loss to mute it from the beginning I don't think.
I think the helmet is a Helm of Telepathy because it has a brain-like shape to it.
👍🏻
Yes, this is a stupid idea, but I may go see it two or three times and just duck out just to help pad the box office in hope of seeing more 😃
Really hope they don`t ruin it with SJW crap like that do with everything thees days.
This looks bad !
At 10:30 when Ted is looking at the symbol on Michelle Rodriguez's armor, I could totally be wrong, but it kinda looks like the symbol for the Emerald Enclave to me. I recall the Harpers also having a symbol show up somewhere. I wonder if these factions will be a larger aspect to the movies. They certainly have been in Adventure League's content.
They are trying to use the guardians of the galaxy mold and I hate it. Too goofy and jokie. The effects and sets look good, the costumes aren’t bad, but the tone is terrible.
I love shenanigans
Damn bro, every time I turn on YouTube you got a new video. Keep fighting the good fight 🤣🤣
A book about the Druid in the movie is coming up on February or March so there might be more coming up about the other characters later on if the movie does well
You are unfortunately too optimistic. If the second movie could become a little more serious and dark then maybe?!!
Paladins paling around
Isn’t green flame blade from sword coast adventurers guide?
Giant slayer axe
anything is better than the D&D movies from the 2000s, I don't think we'll get lord of the rings I'm happy to get guardians of the galaxy. I feel the movie is in safe hands they named the Bard Edgin…they know their audience
A movie doesn't have to be good to like it, and you don't have to like a movie just because it's good. I really like everything I've seen from this so far, I hope it's as cheesy fun as it looks
Also, Green Flame Blade came from the SCAG, not Acquisitions Inc. Like the other good parts of the SCAG, it was reprinted in a better book – Tasha's in this case.
Man I am so hoping that it’s a good movie, I’m gonna be really bummed if it flops
"Guard this with your life."
"I will."
beat
"Here, hold this." 🤣 Gotta distribute those magic items properly.
Hey, I actually saw the original D&D movie, in the theater! This one better make up for that one!
Still sad that sad that there is neither a gnome nor, tiefling nor halfling in the group…Still sad that sad that there is neither a gnome nor, tiefling nor halfling in the group…
