If this doesn’t confirm that IGN is a bunch of clowns, I don’t know what will. This game was legendary. I think it was such a worthy, creative revamp to a series I hold dear to my heart. This guy either never really played the other games or just wanted to come across as edgy. Who knows? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

It makes such a big deal of super minor non issues while not even mentioning the actual issues the game has.
Terrible pacing, especially during the first 5 hours, with super long stretches of time without any boss fights, and a lot of backtracking?
That's not worth mentioning apparently… but the camera panning slowly? Yeah that definitely gets in the review lol
After beating the game recently, I definitely don’t think this game is very good and here’s why:
1. The combat system is bad. This issue applies to all Mario & Luigi games, but it’s somehow even worse here. The combat system should NOT rely on timing! It should be like Pokémon’s combat system where all you do is select an attack, and then your character automatically attacks. This makes battles less tedious imo, and I really hope Action Commands get retired in the next Mario RPG
2. This game drags on way too damn long. The backtracking is somehow worse than Paper Mario: TTYD, and the Soli-Tree should NOT have had platforming challenges and should’ve just been reserved for the final boss fight instead. Making you go through various platforming challenges in the final area just makes this already long game even longer than it needs to be
3. That fucking rhythm minigame no one asked for. RPGs are supposed to be about murdering enemies! Why the fuck do I have to do a rhythm minigame several times throughout the story??? RPGs aren’t supposed to have minigames like this!
4. Some parts of the story makes no sense, more specifically, the lines that The Great Conductor says about Mario and Luigi’s “bond.” This is a flat out lie. Mario and Luigi have absolutely no bond at all between each other because all Mario does is be a massive asshole towards Luigi. How is that a “bond?”
5. Why is Yoshi barely in this game?! You’re telling me that Birdo and Dorrie are more important characters than Yoshi, a character who’s been in more games than those two combined??? Why are Mario RPGs erasing Yoshi from existence all of a sudden???

I don’t understand this review. Everyone is praising it and saying it’s as good as the rest of the series. I picked it up and am excited to check it out this weekend.
Ah ign, they gave this game 5/10, yknow i feel most of the complaints are just wrong for me, everybody loves this game, but IGN does not like it, maybe logan plant is a game journalist, but really let me tell you the complaints that are wrong:
1st: IGN said that the ocean exploration is not the same as in wind waker (IGN just doesn't like this style of exploration, he just wants the same thing as in wind waker, where you explore the sea using a boat to move around the sea, so it's not the same thinf in any game, like who the fuck cares? It's the dev's choice)
2nd: they think some parts of the game are designed for kids (what is designed for kids? the artstyle? The difficulty? It doesn't matter if it's for kids, it's for everyone!)
3rd: they think the tutorials are holding your hands ( that's not a complaint, that's just how to play the fucking game! The basic rules of a game needed a tutorial.)
4th: the game constantly reminds you of story (do you really want to go to some place without any explanation? That's the whole point of telling you the story, or else you're just gonna have to figure out yourself)
5th: they complain about the new characters for this game (remember when everyone hated paper mario sticker star? Isn't it pretty clear that using new characters is important for RPGs?)
6th: perfomance issues (well i'm not having any problem with this, i mean come on i'm using an OLED Model and it's fine for me, i don't have perfomance issues!)
7th: they complain about Luigi (they think he's an npc, but really it has way too interaction in here like in the other games, and there's times where luigi does things for you like in the other games, how is this a complaint?)
8th: they complain about fetch quests (it's the same thing for every Mario and Luigi, it motives adventures and storytelling always worked even in this game)
9th: Chatty dialogue (yeah this might be a problem but this is appears in most Mario RPG games. Have you ever seen an RPG mario game where the dialogue isn't chatty?)
10th : 10 year wait (we've been waiting for a new mario and luigi game and you're still not happy? Be excited for the series to return!)
Bottomline: ign reviews isn't bad but they are not the same person as us, it uses a different person to review a different game, some reviews might actually be true, but there's times where the review score is a complete lie, like they give a bad score on games that are good like this game, and they give good scores on games that sucks so bad like in the review of mario strikers battle league, how did they not complain about the lack of content at the beginning of the game? They only care about the gameplay and not the content. Yknow something feels wrong for me, Mario and Luigi Brothership should have been an 8/10, and mario strikers battle league should have been a 5/10. But IGN is IGN, just don't listen to them, listen to the people on metacritic

Hard disagree here. The villain was great. The idea was so funny (my sister and me making Kingdom Hearts references lol).
I enjoyed the story as it brought me back to Superstar Saga vibes. A game I fully enjoyed, which also had ‘chatty dialogue’.
I think you guys are falling into the ‘back in my day’ category.
This game was great fun. My few gripes are the gameplay was a little too easy with the battles. I could be 2 levels under and still win. The Battle Plugs, while fun, were kind of pointless. And I hated that we couldn’t switch between brothers.
Look, I actually have to agree with a majority of things said here, but I don't think any of the issues are bad enough to punishingly bring this game down to a 5… In my own personal experience, taking in the same problems as more nitpicks, I would give this around a 6.5 or a 7. The only things I can actually 100% agree with is the bloated runtime, annoyingly backtracking side quests and the writing. If you're a fan of the Mario and Luigi series, I cant say this will be your new favorite, but it is still a decently enjoyable time.
