I play it with my 11-year-old, and we love the game! I have been playing sonic games since I got the first one with my second Genesis when it first released, and have played almost every single game that is sonic related ever released to date. Superstars is #3 or 4 on my favorites list from Sonic, right up there along with Generations, 3, Colors, & Mania.
The multiplayer here reminds me of Ryan's rescue squad's co-op. The camera only follows player one and player two respawns if they're offscreen for too long. And even that is better because you actually know who it's following.
It was enjoyable enough for me. I never tried multiplayer though.
Ngl I wish Sonic origins plus included knuckles chaotic in it’s catalogue, I really wanted a 2D sonic multiplayer game that actually works
It was uglier than Mania and the multiplayer was broken,other than that it was much more interesting and fun than Mania if you ask me

I own Superstars on my console and I play it with all my brothers… I think it's not the best sonic game out there, but I think it does a very good job being a co-op sonic game. The experience can actually vary alot when playing a max co-op session versus a solo session. Although, the emerald powers system is quite bad, and I find them to just make the game more chaotic. Anyways, nice review!
the even weirder thing about the multiplayer is that Sonic 4 Episod 2 I played in multiplayer online, and it actually worked quite well as far as I recall. But you had to get someone who matched your skill level
I wasted 60$ and way too many hours on this garbage. The level design is good but the bosses are ridiculously hard. My jaw dropped when I realized I paid full price for a multiplayer game that doesn’t come with online match making. Instead I have to find a group of people (something that has/never will happen) and… send them a code I guess? Did anyone at Sega think this through? Why does Sonic Generations 3DS have a better online multiplayer system?
I say all of this as someone who has enjoyed Sonic 1-4
Honestly, I would still take this over Super Mario Wonders. Yes, I would take the lousy multiplayer experience, mediocre levele design and tedious bosses over the unlikable characters, slow gameplay, dumb gimmicks that slow it down further, the unimaginative Bowser Jr. bossfights, and every other problem that game has that gets frequently igbored, and it's hobwstly gotten frustrating to see people like you who just mindlessly bash this game while also seeing people shower endless praise for Mario no matter how many flaws those games have as if they're perfect masterpieces that everyone should be forced to like.
People whine too much, this is the best multiplayer can get in a sonic game and none of us really complained back in the day helping our buddies out with tails. Watching him die and respawn all the time was comedy gold as a kid
From what i can tell, the camera follows the player ahead until they get too far away then it snaps to the other player.
The chaos powers are essentially worse version of the wisp powers from colors
A good platformer is always single player. Lesson learned three decades ago. You guys hungry for online and multiplayer never had real friends.
