Defendant did a piss poor job
My whole thing is, why would you pay to reupholster items when you can get new ones for the same price or less? I understand that they're antiques and have sentimental value but at some point you need to step back and say, "Okay, enough is enough. I won't pay for this."
My PRELININARY opinion:
It's also EXTREMELY suspicious that the piece of padding she brought conveniently didn't have a smell because she "took a portion of it from the top" whatever that means yet the rest of the padding supposedly smelled?
I think lady paid for the guy to reupholster the chairs, he took 10 months, which irritated her, then she gets them back and it doesn't seem like they are fixed up to her standards and now she's suing him for a refund.
Also, why is guy countersuing for fabric if the fabric is already invoiced? Did he come up with an estimate for him to preemptively take and then was going to charge the rest to their card after he finished? Then the couple saw the chairs and ended up not being happy so they decided to pay him for everything but the fabric? We'll see 🤷
My FINAL opinion:
I don't really think the plaintiff's had much of a case to begin with, I'd be suspicious of the padding. I guess they really did like the furniture but I'd be flying with my friends of pigs before you'd see me paying close to $3k AND 10+ months for old furniture, I don't care how sentimental it is to me. I would have sat there and redid it myself or learned how to redo it myself, Youtube is there for a reason! Use it!
I guess guy doesn't keep very good records if he didn't realize he already charged them for fabric. 😅

Cat urine. One of the worst smells in the universe, and nearly impossible to get out! 😩 The defendant kept saying that his company never replaces all of the upholstery filling in any of their jobs, but I’m sure the vast majority of their jobs do not involve the horrible smell of cat urine, so replacing all of the filling should have been a given.
Side note; I haven’t heard Doug say that line in decades! 🤗

i don't understand why everyone is complaining about the plaintiffs. They said there cat had a bladder issue – indicating it was unusual for their cats to be going out the litter box, wasn't like they have kittens or a new cat from the shelter acclimating to the new home. Also they took it to their old upholstery person and had the work redone, and apparently now no longer have the issue of smell. The plaintiffs seem like really kind and patient people, and the defendant doesn't seem bad either but just seems like he didn't know how to get the job done correctly.

Its almost impossible to get cat pee smell out of wood. It soaks in and its hard to remove the smell. If she hada googled it she would know this.
I think the judgement should be his money back from the first paint job and the difference he paid to get the new paint job back as well.
