Games literally goes to the deck, you can play PlayStation exclusive as well as many Xbox titles. That’s not even mentioning all of the games that are only available on Steam. (Also emulating but Nintendo wouldn’t be too happy about that one)
I have a modded switch, and I’m getting a steamdeck very soon.
A modded switch allows for the ease of modding switch games and access for getting switch games free.
Downsides are no pc games, no GameCube and Wii emulation, and a few other things.
Simply installing emu deck on a steamdeck adds unlimited capability to the system, with the downside being that switch games are harder to obtain now, and so are switch emulators.
Other than that, they both have their upsides, as long as you have a modded switch and your getting the best out of it.

I'm gonna take the switch Everytime if I could only choose one for three simple reasons
1. No matter what the deck apologists tell you the switch HAS WAY Better battery life and that's insanely important to me.
2. The switch is the last console left with quality actual exclusives. It compliments my two laptops nicely.
3. The deck is bulky enough that I may as well just bring my 2 in 1 12 inch along which has MUCH faster cpu,more ram (faster also) ,faster SSD and equivalent GPU roughly. It's thinner and fits into my bag easier,just like the switch fits easier than a deck does.
And I'm primarily a PC gamer.

I dont have a steamdeck but I'm prettier sure it wins since its more closer to a ps4 in term of hardware and software specs from what im heard along having larger gaming library than the switch. Though portability i think the switch beats it but the joycon drift is something got watch out for for the switch as i went through joycons few times before going to a third part control dock controller that i love using. Also one thing i like about switch compared to steamdeck is at least i can get some physical games. I love get steamdeck but i already own a ps4, ps5, a switch lite, and switch oled with all i share with my brother, we would get steamdeck but that means more money we have to invest in the steamdeck and even more in its massive library with.

I received my Nintendo switch last Christmas right before the steam console came out. I'm feeling really cornered with my options as far as the genre I enjoy playing. Which is multiplayer animal/dragon/dinosaur games. I'm really disappointed and wish I would have waited for the steam console

I’ve been a Nintendo gamer for decades. Love my switch and it’s been my primary system. With that said, I’d recommend the average person to buy a steamdeck. I’m looking to get one myself since my laptop is up in age, then I’ll have the best of both.
