I did not find combat frustrating and clunky at all. In many encounters you can se the enemies before they see you. Before battle make a plan. Check health,grp,ammo,surroundings. Is their spikes or explosives anywhere. What type of enemies are there. If there are spitters try to blow head of first. Is the spitter further back then other enemies lift a enemy and use him as shield before throwing him. If the grip is empty draw the other enemy behind a bigger objekt to avoid spitters hitting you. Everything in this game is strategy and awernes . The game give you multiple things to handle the enemies and if you do it right you dont need to heal in mid battle. If you plan and it still goes shit many of the weapons can destroy big crowds. The dodge works well with multiple enemies If they are all the melee type and infront of you cant get hit If you strafe left and right and hit the right amount of hits and not spam hit button. They will power threw and punish you for that. Dont move the right stick to much as long you make the enemies are infront of you. The auto aim will tell you wich enemy that is going to attack. In worst case an enemy may sneak up behind and turn you around and grab your face but that barely do any damage. Its ok to not like the game but to say that combat mechanics not work when it does.
