Getting a Steam Deck Oled was the BEST decision. I sold my Ayaneo 2 and original Switch for it. Worth it 🎉🎉🎉🎉 I never put it down
I know you may not be tech-savvy but i wanna bring something up that can benefit you when it comes to Visual Novels since you mentioned that it can get hot on some instances along with other points that could be beneficial for ya
I don't know if you are aware because i don't think it was mentioned at all in this video but there's the button of 3 points on the opposite side of Steam's button that has the (bolt icon) option that allows you to tinker with how each game can run (you can even save the settings on a profile for specific games or for steam deck in general) which is beneficial because the steam deck is always running on full power and you don't need that for visual novels or games that don't need all that power, you don't need to be much afraid about what to change since FPS and TDP Power might be most of what you could tweak if needed to like you don't need the games run on 90 FPS so you can turn them down to 30 or less, TDP power can be reduced to 6 as well and that way it gets less hot AND you save a good amount of battery (the worst that can happen is that the interface slows down some but the game still runs as it should and you can still change it on the spot)
As for setting up controls for each game, there are already profiles you can pick to have the trackpads or trackpad as a mouse which is not always intuitive but the option is there and i believe you can make up your own template so you don't have to always change it every time, you can pick your custom template before booting up the game so that you always know what to pick
Lastly in terms of what Steam considers 'Steam Deck Verified' can be reliable but not 100% of the time oddly enough, i recommend checking out the site ProtonDB to not only see what games you don't know if they work are on Steam Deck but also because to get some info on how to make the most out of your steam deck on certain games because like i said they don't need all the power of the system to run and people can submit their reports to have it be verified
I've been playing old Yugioh pc games on 10 FPS with barely any power at all and i could play it for up to 10 hours if i wanted to and have a lot of fun still, i have been playing web Flash games which is a weird yet great feeling experience playing those games with a controller, emulation is obviously a powerhouse, and while not every PC windows game is 100% compatible yet is just a matter of time we get there through proton overall, been playing games with multiple people in groups in houses and with my whole family, been playing lots of 'unverified by steam' games a lot that i've been using the steam deck for months now and the more i keep experimenting the more i am becoming a geek about it for how much i can do with it and if my personal PC suddenly breaks for whatever reason I'll happily replace it with my steam deck which goes to show how much value i am seeing but that's me probably geeking about it and i am not usually someone that often tweaks stuff
Regardless i personally recommend it for how much value it brings once you take a look on what you can do with the device if you are open for tweaking every now and then because you'll feel rewarded once you do, Consoles will always have the advantage of just picking up a game and go but i go for the ability to have more variety on my system if i wanted to
Pretty chill video!
i love your blog and was pleasantly surprised to see your youtube channel pop up in my recommended!! thank you for being here <3
Tbh Im beyond angry that they toss a white oled out RIGHT as I finally saved enough bought the black version 💀 Istg if they release something new within like the first week of u buying the previous version of something you should have like an option to trade in (paying whatever difference ofc) 😭😭💔
Oh hey, I love these Halloween joycons! I have them, too ♥
Great video! Everything just feels right
aw I love the kent figurine in the background, I've been working through his route and he is my favorite LI in otome so far!!! <3 subscribed 🙂
A lot of the time the "Unsupported" label can be wrong. A lot of games that work are labeled unsupported for some reason, but when run, run completely fine. The only reason I see a game can't be played is if it has an anticheat like Call of Duty, but since you're playing VNs, there should almost never be a compatibility issue. I recommend you try running some of the games regardless of the rating.
I’ve had my steam deck oled for a few months now. Disclaimer: I too have a PC and Switch. The first day I was up until 2am figuring out customization and optimization. After that, I was up until 4am playing my favorite games. Once I can master the emulation process for Nintendo games, I truly believe the steam deck will be my number one handheld device. However, I would never get rid my Switch. I just don’t have the heart to do it. Either way, if you have some extra money to spare, I think it’s worth it. 🤎
I don't even know what otome is. I think it's visual novel related from anime I've watched. Anyway, I've just subscribed bc you bought a steamdeck and like supporting other Linux users. For other commenters
My favorite apps are:
(from desktop mode:)
Decky
-power tools
-hltb
-protondb
-fantastic (better and customizable fan curves)
Heroic Launcher (Amazon Launcher, GoG, Epic)
Wine/Proton tricks (just adds more versions of Proton for better compatibility like "GE" and hot fixes)
Emudeck (emulator front-end with native support for auto grabbing official box art and descriptions etc)
-you can use a mix of emulators or rely primarily on retroarch cores
– bios will be needed for a few consoles
-art takes up a lot of space if you are putting in thousands of games like all GBC/GBA etc so you don't have to get the front end to download the art
-let's users decide if they want their game rom backups listed directly in steam or simply just a link to an emudeck front-end
Maybe this comment will be useful to another viewer. 🖖
Oh, with power tools, If you are like me and primarily leave your deck plugged in when using it or are generally near a wall. I'd set a "persistent profile" and under "charge limit" set 80%. Electronic devices have the best battery health over the years when kept within the 40% – 80% range as this avoids full charge cycles. My decks even when plugged in don't go above 80% and I can turn that on or off at any point.
I don't Reccomend adjusting gpu clocks in power tools but for general cpu clocks if you want to adjust the minimum clock to be close to the default maximum speed – I've found no disadvantages other than battery life when unplugged. This isn't over clocking, it's just picking a speed within the safe and normal ranges and can drastically improve performance speeds.
More advanced is undervolting. There are guides online for how to do this in the bios. I just went ahead and did the minimum and have found I get a little less heat and thus better performance.
Oh hi! Very insightful and realistic take I love it! I have the same issue with wanting to game in my bed but also wanting to play my indie games which are usually PC only! New subscriber ❤
Correction, almost all games you mentioned are playable, just because steam hasn't verified the game it doesn't mean it doesn't work
I looked through protonDb site and
Cinderella Phenomenon – Otome/Visual Novel
Amnesia: Memories
Nightshade/百花百狼
All seems to work
As someone who's also not tech savy i recommend you to install the deck loader on your steam deck get a tutorial and is pretty much just download and install, and it is such a good plugin allowing you to customize basically every aspect of the steam deck with a easy to understand and store like layout
Also always check the description of unsupported games if it says that they are working on it there's a great chance it works but if there's an aspect of the game such as too demanding graphics or anti cheat then you can be almost sure it doesn't work
Also, look into vitals you can play a lot of otome games on that as well ( vita emulator)
If you can figure out smwith emu… you’ll get even more:)
I can tell you tho, all those games you mentioned 100% work on the steam deck ( i played them), what you have to do is download different protons
Also look up litris
Damn girl, that white Steam deck looks cool :O. I'd highly recommend checking out this plug-in called Decky, it'll let you install stuff to your steam deck such as ProtonDB. which is a more consistent way to see how well games will run instead of steams method of doing it!
She gets a sub from me
Otome?
good looking algorithm.
Yes!! Someone who understands the struggles of PC gaming versus handheld. I’m in the same position and would much rather play on my Switch. Great content.
