Amen to the statement, “if they work hard, it shouldn’t matter if they have a service dog”. I work at our local VA and I had a service dog, Rue was very good and laid in her bed or played with her toys and the Veterans really enjoyed seeing her when we walked around. During the pandemic I began working from home though. Rue passed on 12/14/2024.
I’ve heard people say that animals aren’t intelligent and don’t have souls but anyone that has/had an animal know those people are wrong. These dogs prove that they have the intelligence to recognize and understand who their human parent is even though they may have been away for a long time like these brave folks serving in our military. Their heart and soul are shown by the way they react to the homecoming, giving hugs and kisses. Whether you have cats or dogs, they know who you are, notice when you are gone and celebrate when you return.

These are so sweet – I distinctly remember my sister seeing our dog for the first time at the end of plebe summer during parents weekend at the Naval Academy – even though me and my family live in Alexandria we rented a house in downtown Annapolis for the weekend – the moment we got to house with Caroline and Rudy saw her it was an emotional reunion – my little sister happy cried and Rudy went wild he was so excited to see her – and I think was happy whimpering too – it was the sweetest – dogs are truly the best !!
A show once said that crying is for babies and YouTube videos of soldiers coming home to their dogs and they were right, it made me cry
