Its a good idea that needed a bit more time(or a sequel) to reach its full potential.
The concept behind the combat is good but needs/needed to be fleshed out a bit more. More weapons(mostly melee) and moves, more enemy types that encourage the players to use them and of course a little more challenge. Adding stuff like proper parries and last second evade(with a tighter but not too tight window) would have been good as well.
As it is, it's a decent game, "short" by today's standards but that makes it more easily replayable if you enjoy the gameplay loop(i do). Simple story, pretty well told and enjoyable in my opinion.
The bad promo over hyping it, the shaky launch and Dead Space fanboys acting like 2 similar IPs cant coexist in the same genre did the game in.
At any rate, its frequently heavily discounted so it wont cost you much to give it a try. I got the Deluxe Edition for $20 on PlayStation last week.
Who knows, maybe it could become a little "underrated gem" and get a sequel years from now. It has happened before…
I'm buying today because it's 7 bucks.😂
Takes some getting used to but a love it myself
I brought a used copy on eBay. All said and done $13.49 delivered. I don't know what that is in British. Something sixpence pocketful of rye 24 blackbirds baked in the pie but do you think it's worth that. I hope so.
You are Australian.
If you haven't played Prey you should play it in Australian cuz it's an amazing game.
Played it once. Also placed the dlc. Full of positives and negatives but overall I left with a memorable experience. The skill tree makes me want to try new game +
I still kinda hate this game.
I've heard recently that they scrapped like 4 bosses and other things, it is my profound wish that someday they could put out a director's version and restore all that was sacrificed, I enjoyed it as well but feel egregiously cheated out of what could have been a much BETTER game.
It's kinda sad that triple A now means diluted simple mechanics, I don't at all disagree, just saying it's sad.
I always loved The Callisto Protocol despite flaws.. same as i enjoyed The Order 1886 & Ryse Son of Rome.. games that are graphically powerhouses with more simple combat and shorter play times… Ive probably replayed TCP 7x already haha..
I think it was honestly just “ok”. A very mediocre title that I played through twice total then put in the bottom of my drawer. Overall fun for a few hours but easily forgettable.
I played this game like a month ago, loved it so much!
Trash game, trash story, trash enemies.
Wasting Sam Witwer as a generic big bald bad guy final boss was a fucking joke. He ATE UP the early scenes before getting infected, and became a waste of dialogue later on with his "I'M TEH ALFUH!!!!11!" line.
There is little to no redeeming qualities of this game beyond it's graphical fidelity.
I mean, epic gave it away for free last year so…
I believe it caught of undeserved hate. I really enjoyed it and I played it like the spiritual successor to Dead Space and I’ve been balls deeps in the series since I first saw the animated comic series on XBox live
If they patched the combat so it played like Dead Space it would be a genuine masterpiece.
Man, gotta disagree with you on this one. Its no where near a successor to DS (2008), because to be a successor, it would have to be better. the only thing that was better about CP was the graphics, but if you break down the DESIGN of the game, CP is very weak.
So, to give context, I played CP, and right away, went to play DS (2008), and its night and day difference in design. From the way Issac Clark's heavy movement were, to the mechanics of shooting off limbs, to the story telling, jump scares, and even the codex's, were all well designed and well placed, while CP was the opposite.
if you go back to DS (2008), and compare them as apples to apples, DS still reign king in all aspect besides the graphics department. I even went to play DS2 right away after DS (2008) during this past halloween, and i can see the difference in design even though it was majority the same crew of the original game – and unfortunately, that same crew made an even worse DS game called Calisto Protocol, because they seemed to focuses more on AAA title mechanics rather than sticking to the original designs that MADE DS so god damn good.
i can't, in good faith, say that CP is a good game as its a poorly designed game when compared to their past work.
Why is the ease of access a point in the games favour for a real gamer?
Baby food is really easy to eat. You can feed it to anything and it'll be fine. But you aren't gonna find many gourmets recommending it on that basis.
"AAA" gameplay is when Mike Tyson's Punchout in a horror game. The game sucks, it's cool you like it but it's dull.
The studio just needed more time with the game is all. It was their management that fucked with it and i was annoyed how unfair the treatment was getting. Everyone moaning about the combat when i personally had no problem with it and how short the game is but i loved it. For me it was a fun perfect little horror game i played alot after work.
Love the horror and really i just wanted more. I hope it gets a sequel that fully reaches its potential. I actually prefer this game then the Dead Space Remake tbh.
I have to disagree that the remake was perfect, it handled the story and characters in the remake really bad. It was awful. The only thing that was truly amazing was of course the gameplay and graphics but thats it.
Here, its different with its tone and gameplay. I love Jacob just as much as i do with Issac. And man the tension with fighting monsters is real because you're never over powered, so you're constantly fighting for your life and i like that part of horror in the game because it has purpose, you're fighting to survive. Where in Dead Space you can be the most OP one there and it then becomes less scary in some ways but thay don't mean its better, its just that Callisto did something different that i really liked.
But yeah i really want more of it. We don't get sci fi horror like this as much now. Kove riot mode as well, that's hella fun.
But yeah the acting here is amazing. The dead space remake is so flat, that's why i don't like the story there. Where in the OG, its supurb and keeps you immersed.
Im glad you can as well can see its glory. Its fair. Its one of the best AAA games ive played so far next to Space Marine 2 and Steller Blade.
This game was great.
I played Dead space remake and Callisto and dsr’s horror/suspense/jumpscares makes Callisto’s horror feel like my little pony with guns
Good video. I actually listened and went to buy it. Thank heavens for Steam refunds. I couldn't take the amount of cutscenes and 'walk forward open door' gameplay. I gave it a good shot, but not for me. It's weird – it's like the gameplay is aimed at kids or people who play with their feet, but it's obviously an adult game. Ah well, I tried.
It’s been 2 years?! Jesus Christ
It was ok it definitely dragged though around the last third of the game, but the universe and lore felt like it needed to be explored more there was so much potential there too bad we probably won't get a sequel.
I'm not sure what kind of different feel comes with pushing a stick left and right vs alternating A and D as the combat is still completely boring. I also wouldn't say that enemies becomes more "complex" when that "complexity" is just 3 swings vs 1. Nothing more is introduced to the combat vs an enemy that only swings once. Even the block serves no purpose. Boss fights could've been the saving grace if we didn't have identical combat for them and a boss that we fight 3 or 4 times within an hour.
Performance issues were just 1 of its many problems and I think noting that the final act was sold as DLC probably should've been brought up if you're telling people to give it a go
Honestly, I thought this game was great. Waaaaayyyy to many air vent sections though
got it free still not worth it id rather play dead space remake.
I tried it for a few hours, I didn’t like the melee system
Honestly, "Calisto protocol" wasn't a bad game. There are a lot of good things in it, but you can clearly see the studio needed more time to finish the game, especially when you look at the level design and the fact the story dragged in the second half, only to be rushed at the end. I really enjoyed my time with it overall, and it didn't really deserve to fail.
I also played the "Dead Space" remake and it left a sour taste in my mouth (I had played the original 3 times and I really wasn't a fan of the changes implemented in the remake, which completely break the pace of the story).
the combat gameplay is really annoying & dumb, even once you get used to it.
Put aside all other issues & bad press (pc optimization / story & etc), just alone because of the gameplay I wouldn't recommend this one
Love this game. Bought it on xbox, and once I bought my pc. Bought it again on sale for pc. Played it this last Halloween again.
Highly recommend searching for “Callisto Protocol: Helix Station”!!
Crazy you and matt mc dropped a video on same day i enjoyed protocol it was on ps plus, but i enjoyed og dead space way more. ⬅️➡️⬅️🥊
EA done the remake out of spite lol. Launched it right next to The Callisto Protocol. Dead Space was amazing though.
I agree
Found it too gory. Gore is good, but there's an art to making it enticing.
I played it at launch on series x and really had no complaints thought it was great, I did a second run through about a year later and ran through the dlc and though it’s got a rough ending I really enjoyed it then too
amazing video like
Say what you like about The Callisto Protocol, they got the sewerage sludge effects nailed down
