I have to do this tomorrow and im nervous. New kitten has been living in the spare room for a week and the older cats know his smell but they haven't seen him. I'll just do so many treats, so much loving on my older cats, so much praise. I hope they take to him or ill have to find him a home where he's welcome.
well presented
Thank you for this content 🐈⬛🐾
Excellent information, so much needed this Thank you introducing my new kitten to my 13 year old cat . 🐈 a new beginning for both after my dog passed away 3 months ago fingers crossed 🤞 Older cat has had a sniff ,hissed and walkef off 😮he is keeping his distance and away from the same room .Hopefully we will succeed 😅 much appreciated. ❤
i guess not all cats behave a certain way, i adopted a kitten, and first intro with my older cat was both hissing and growling at each other, i just let them be…after 3 days to my surprise without any intervention they're both sleeping cuddled together and eat off one plate, drink at the same cup, no more fighting but lots of playing running around, jumping…and lots of toppled things around the house.
Can anyone helppppp… I have a 6 or so year old indoor/outdoor girl cat and I got a baby kitten for her to have a friend but she hates her so much. I tried to do the slow introduction I had her in a separate room for a week but after I finally let her see her she refuses to come inside now. She has turned into an outdoor only cat. Or if she needs to come in she just hides under the covers in my bedroom. I've tried bringing her in and showing her how tiny and harmless and playful the kitten is but she just growls and hisses the whole time. I don't want to lock her inside, I want her to feel safe and like she can get away if she needs to but I don't know how they're gonna make friends if she never comes inside… Any advice pretty pretty please?? Should I just make her stay inside for awhile but put a partition up? I really feel she will attack the kitten if she had the chance.
I want them to be friends so badly, it would be so heartbreaking if the kitten had to go to another home
Do please tell us more- thanks
Our new female kitten is completely defensive when around our adult female cat. She growls and hisses till the adult cat comes near. Then she runs and the adult chases. Then all h—- follows. Suggestions?
My older cat, since we took in a feral cat…doesn't want to eat near it. it's been 10 days, The kitten is in a dog kennel in my front room due the limits on being able to have it elsewhere. They have both progressed. The older cat is picky about eating before this. would love links to more of your videos to help us get to letting them meet outside the cage.
My parents used to have a senior cat that was sweet and friendly. I grew up with this cat. My sister and I had these 2 cute kittens. One was a tuxedo Manx kitten and the other one was a domestic shorthair red tabby kitten. My parents cat allowed the little kitten to sleep next to him. I was sitting next to them. There wasn’t any growling and hissy at all. The elderly cat was an American shorthair red tabby cat. The older cat was my buddy. He used to cuddled with me. He was very sweet and friendly cat liked when he was younger.
these AI auto generated voices are the worst..absolutely ruined this otherwise good video
Arclimate?
I found this tip out by accident… We had two older cats, one who did not want to except two kittens. And I’m talking for 4 1/2 years after we got the kittens he wanted nothing to do with them or us anymore – he would isolate himself except to eat and go to the litter box. It broke my heart. He was found (years before) almost starved to death so he had always been skinny, but one day I thought maybe I could get him to eat a little bit to make him healthier. So I started taking him in a room alone with just the two of us, and feed him food and or treats. While he ate the food, he enjoyed the alone time with me more than that and within a week maybe two tops not only was he better with the kittens, but he was better with us as well. All he needed was alone time with me. I’m just so sad that it took that long for me to realize it. Hopefully this will help someone else not have to go through 4 1/2 years of sadness. ❤️
My Older cat is 15, I got her when she is 8. I got an 8 week kitten this week.
Right now the kitten is walking around the apartment with my older cat. Now they don’t get along, new kitten is interested in interacting with older cat.
Older cat does not reciprocate this interest, she does growl and hiss at the kitten but does not stalk or attack.
Older cat usually will watch kitten with her ears forward, so she’s not mad, only until kitten gets too close in which she will either growl or hiss, followed by walking away
I don’t know how to warm my older cat to the new kitten, it’s only been a few days
I wish i could make introducing them slowly, but i live in a small one bedroom apartment
There’s been 0 altercations so far, which is good. But i wish i could get my older cat to accept the kitten… hopefully it will go well
I love all cats, I love all cats
Splendid video! One question though… My resident cat, a ginger female of 7 years, is not an over-eater and regulates food intake herself, therefore food is always available, should I take her food away prior to the new kittens arrival, for them both to engage in the dinner-dates?? Thank you again for posting this video! <3
My cat still smacks the kitten and hisses once in a while, but the kitten is extremely pesky and will harass my senior a lot. The other side of their relationship is the two chasing each other and rolling around, wrestling each morning when my senior is in a more playful mood.
Barrier?
I got my kitty 4 days ago and I have a senior outdoor cat which we all love and adore, but I'm concerned that she might run away from home . I am introducing them really slowly and am giving both equal love and affection but my senior cat looks like it's afraid of the new kitten and keeps running away from him and sometimes even hisses at him,I know it's normal but its very sad to think that they won't get along. Can someone please give me advice because all of these videos on how to introduce cats are with the indoor cats that can't run away
I'll be doing this in 2 weeks wish me luck.😁
Our 2.5 year old female that had zero interaction with other cats since birth and was also from a feral cat family where she was separated at five weeks old has always allowed our male kitten (now a year old) full access to the food bowl first and within a month they hanging out with each other. Even though she will never be able to have kittens I believe her motherly instincts prevailed. She has become more playful over the last year since his addition to the family and can't believe she will be four this spring!
Great video! You make so much great content! I have introduced many kitties to kitties of all ages. There are things you should always do/not do when introducing any kitty to a home with a kitty already there. Thanks for the upload!
I just want to say that this excellent advice doesn't just apply to kittens – it also applies to juveniles. I'll avoid writing a wall of text, but this technique helped our Lt. Frannington (13yo) accept our Ssgt Orri (3yo). Four years later they cohabit just fine… most of the time. ;-D
If the elder doesn't feel threatened or disturbed and the younger feels safe and welcome, you're probably going to be fine. Just watch the body language.
Only things I will reinforce are they must have places to isolate, separate litter boxes, and the ability to see what the other is eating (mine will swap bowls halfway through).
One last thing – watch for one of them not burying their scat.
I'm so glad I found this stream. I've enjoyed every video whether it related or not. I've been really lucky to have older cats that are very tolerant. They have been so loving and compassionate to any new cat or kitten. Maybe they know they're loved and don't see them as a threat. I do also have the spare bedroom with a 2in gap under door. They can see each other and play paddy paw under door while they get to know each other and yet back away if it gets too rough. Thanks for the info, I can always learn something new😸
My cat usually tries to disengage from the kitten, but I’ve noticed recently that when I try to separate them he will follow me. Over time they’ve learned to relax together and seem to view the other’s company as more positive than negative.
I just let you gray girl out of the carrier. Chunky girl Calico Muffin walked up and thumped her head twice and walked away. That was it. I guess she was exerting her dominance and showed her who was boss. Muffin was 3. It was bound to happen eventually so it all worked out. By the end of the week my gray girl kitten was actually laying with muffin. Although when my gray girl got somehow got pregnant and had her litter Muffin was not happy. She had a look of disgust that was obvious. She wold glare at the kittens. Shortly after she door dashed and that was that. Was two and a half years and no sight of her. Checked all the shelters every week. The online list with pictures. I still do. She wanted zero parts of that situation.
We have two houaeholds. Two cats (1.5 and 4 yoa) from one house and another from the other house (7 yoa). Because they knew each other's smell from our clothing when it came time to put them together it took a few seconds of sniffing before all was fine. Scent cannot be underestmated at least in this anecdotal account.
Thank you for good info ❣️ I enjoy all your videos 💗
The use of Feliway can help immensely
It also very very much depends on the older cats attitude towards new cats. Some few cats are extremely antisocial towards any new cats, opposite sex or not. All of the rest of your suggestions are first rate, I couldn't agree more!
Logic & love go a long way. You're the go to man in feline matters. 🙂
