Here's where you can watch the video about having your dog sit until released – https://youtu.be/gNnnoqLbTzk
And a video on how to test your dog's sit as a follow up – https://youtu.be/pZ1gFNMU-K8
Stop shouting
A SPRAY BOTTLE SET ON "SQUIRT" STOPPED MY MASTIFF NOT TO JUMP IN LESS THAN 3 DAYS. IT IS PAINLESS, FREE, AND VERY EFFECTIVE!!
My dog will sit but they never stay when I walk away
Do you call her back using her name or a different command?
Sometimes a dog is suffering from neglect. Try getting them to stop jumping. Theyre trying to tell you, "Help! Rescue me!!" "Get me out of here!!!"
But I LOVE when my dog jumps on me but I understand that not everyone likes that soooo….
Thoughts on doing this with a deaf dog ? She has to be able to see my hands!
Thank God I can pause the video. So much homework to help people with their furbabies.
So blessed to have found Susan's videos .
👍
I have a little pupo👹
Teach me how to get my dog to sit and stay
I’m sure I’m in the category of needing to step away from watching videos on the computer (but I am also doing a lot of training with my extra retirement time 😊). This morning I decided to revisit the video about stopping your dog from jumping up on people. We were walking yesterday and, although a little better, it happened when I stopped to chat with an older friend who loves Vizslas, and my pup Olive in particular. My friend was following my directions to help with the greeting but I wanted to make sure I was clear in my expectations, hence the video. As soon as Olive heard Susan’s voice in the tv, she whipped around to listen and watch. I was a bit jealous!
I had to share and to continue to give you all my thanks. We’ve a long way to go and I have returned to the basics to make sure my communication with Olive is clear and specific. I think I drifted away from that. I know great things await us as we continue our journey together.
No it is Susan ❤ How do I get my 5 year old rescue to not go on furniture or beds? ? And we have 6 plush dog beds that I try to train them on. Older shelter dogs I currently have two rescues. thank you. Any videos on this… that are not about puppies? And crate training older dogs that may have some anxiety.
Awesome approach! Add the link talked about. Thanks
Heres a challenge I face. I live alone and rarely have anyone around that I could practice this method with. So how do I accomplish this with no one to help?
Thank so much. I'm so proud my dog got this in 4 days. When I have been out for most of the day. The first thing I do is give belly rubs then pat myself on my chest then she will jump up so she gets her ears rubbed. But never with any other person. That our we love and have missed eachother greeting only , but I love that moment.
Yes please if you haven’t…drop some love for those of us who need a reliable sit with duration
My pup is like that perfume…60% of the time it works all the time
How about a video on training sibling puppies (litter mates,) and teach the pups to "focus."
This is ok, but we train our dogs to not jump differently, we also use other dog that is already trained in our training. Some dogs by nature are jumpy dogs, just as some dogs by nature are licky dogs. Different strokes for different folks, we have always had several dogs, we just can’t live without them! Jumping is not a problem for us.
When practising the wandering sit, does the dog have to sit facing forwards? Or can they turn slightly to face back towards you?
Love this!
Hi, I am new to this. We had rescued poodles for 52 years, that my husband and I were together. We never trained them just loved them. I know this sounds crazy. We were just lucky. Two of them the last two became our service dogs. Princess passed within a couple weeks of my husband's passing and the day after what would have been our 52 anniversary. I was rehomed a 2-year-old poodle, who is out of control and I cannot do a thing with him. I have never given up on a dog before. I love him. Odie aka dammit Odie how do I get you to listen, to stop that, well, I am sure you get the picture. I have to stop his bad behavior, his running off, running after cars because his attitude is this is fun. He is two and has no training whatsoever. So far he cannot do any of the commands.
What is wandering sits? I can’t find another video where you demonstrate this. Thanks
What about jumping on owner while just out walking?
Thanks forbthis! I just discovered y'all on a live!
What di you recommend for training treats?
That does not work with my dog and not how I want it
Makes sense!
Thank you for the great video! I had a question after watching – what do I do if my dog doesn't come back after one of the re-greet sessions?
My dogs an english bulldog and she jumps when i come back. When hes bored he starts acting like an snail when he puts his slivia thing, His name is escobar and i adopted him not to long ago. And he also jumps up. But thats the thing i like it but i liked that english bulldog video made my pure heart fulled up with happiness.
Please an spiders

Hi my little jack Russell is not at all interested in treats the only way I can train him is to tell him what a good boy he is in an excited voice he reponds to this so well .I will work on the jumping thing but he loves to bounce thanks for your advise
Yes..I d like to say set and stay and them listen
Living in New Zealand 🇳🇿 USA 🇺🇸 making sure of getting the sequence right is my value to a dog. Thank you for the reinforcement for me and my future pet.❤❤😊
Really important topic and this is a good training strategy. However Susan presents it in such a long and complicated way that it is difficult to comprehend as a whole. Three steps, each with sub-steps and go to another video for some sub-steps… certain behaviors that apply to all steps are only discussed in one or the other step… the "greeting behavior" criteria are not stated explicitly in the beginning, so we are left guessing what we are aiming for, I guess it is four feet on floor, or maybe to stay in a sit position while greeting. Not clear what the limits of behavior are. In step 3 we hear this: "Go see…then Sit… but before they can [do what?] call them back"… left me totally baffled. I had to watch this ten times and write and scratch and re-write a list to come up with the procedure that I think she is trying to communicate.
Way too verbose!
Unfortunately, as the victim in this meet & jump-greeting behavior, it does not help… Every dog owner that I have met will do what they want w/ their dog, including on how they prefer to train them…. They tell ME to knee the dog and shout “No!!”. And yet their jumping dog still does it – every time…. Even as I walk into a room, after the 1st jumping up….
I need to hire people to come help me with these. It can be tough when you live alone and don’t have heaps of visitors
Definitely want the video on sit until released. Sitting is the one basic thing my little 9 month old and I struggle with. He knows to sit for a treat though. But he’s a shocker when we’re out and about. Definitely practicing this tomorrow
We shall see how this goes with my giant Great Pyrenees foster, Bruce….. 😳 The staff at the shelter loved that he would jump on them and look lovingly into their eyes. 🤦🏼♀️ So it’s been fairly successful getting him to stop that behavior after 1 month.
This is helpful if you have someone to help you, and if you don't, well, I'm not sure. :/
This was super helpful and so many good tips! My only question is, are you sure it's only for reinforcement that a dog jumps up? Sometimes I feel like my Bernedoodle that just turned 9 months does it because he wants to play or is excited. He will full on hit my chest with both of his paws and he does it so fast I can't turn around to remove reinforcement. I guarantee he's not doing this to smell my face! I'll try everything in this video and see if that helps.
I can get my dog to sit but they won't stay
It’s a little too complex. You said there are three stages, but actually many more than three are described… meanwhile the three stages themselves are listed on a whiteboard in the background that we can barely see. Please streamline/simplify/make more concise.
