My Furbaby sleeps under the covers with me. When she's cold, she comes up on my lap and puts her COLD footsies on my skin to warm up (I'm usually a blast furnace). She knows I'm thrilled to accommodate her!
So how the heck, do they survive in the wild then? We used to put our cats outside, when I was growing up, no matter what the weather conditions. I hated it with a passion but my father always, said that they know how to look after themselves. They know how to stay warm and will be OK. Yet the following day we would let them back in and in some cases they would have frost bitten ears. I have a 10 year old, female cat now, and she never, ever, goes outside. Just far, far, too many risks.
My young cat actually got overheated. She laid in front of our wood stove too long. She jumped up and ran in the other room and licked incessantly. She was breathing heavily, trying to get away from being hot. I gave her water. It scared the heck out of me.
I tried getting cat beds, and warming blankets. My cat never used them. She lies, or sleeps where she chooses
Our apartment (cat and I) is in the 70s and low 80s. The only sign my cat shows is she curls up in a ball. When it is warmer, she will stretch out
That doesn't mean that I can't tolerate the cold. I walk outside when it is in the 40s. It's just inside, most likely when I am sleeping
I have no idea where they got 68 degrees from? For some humans, that is way too cold! I likely got sick because my parents kept the house too cold. The only time I caught pneumonia is when I had to stay in the hospital for 10 days. Probably a prolonged stay because I had pneumonia

All of my cats (6) try to steal my body heat as they all lay in top of me while i sleep. Jokes on them. They are keeping me warm.
I've never been so popular since I got an electric blanket, just two the two boys, hardly room for me.
As someone who feeds about 20+ ferral cats that no one else takes care of in our neighborhood, I can't let that many inside no matter how cold it gets. We have a few of our own inside and would love to shelter the others but we don't have a basement or garage or even a building outside to put them in. So my husband and I made some small winter shelters outside in hopes that they share. Tomorrow night will be down to 15° F. Thats all that I know to do😔
