I appreciate the docked and handheld comparison. I will be honest the downgrade in graphics is almost kind of cozy to me, I loved chamber of secrets on ps2. So this kind of gives me that feel.
The Switch port is now around 14 gigs , with all updates so far. I bought it the other day and am really enjoying it. It was on sale for $18 on the e shop so I had to scoop it up.
Yes, playing the game on , say, a top tier gaming PC would be ideal, but if you just have a Switch and want to play a huge open world wizard RPG about the Harry Potter franchise, this is actually an outstanding version to experience.
If you loved vanilla Skyrim , I think you won't have an issue with this games performance. Again, for a nearly 10 years old hardware, it looks pretty amazing and runs considerably smooth.
Frame rate can dip below 30fps, but it's not catastrophic by any means.
Its like playing the OG Assassin Creed games, is how it looks and sorta feels.
And the battle and combat is nice and pretty darn fluid.
Add a completely original orchestrated soundtrack and strong voice acting and lots of NPCs , a massive Hogwarts castle and a massive outdoor map. It's friggin amazing.
If it's on sale for Switch, BUY IT.

Im just glad to get my sister this game for my sister on her switch, because she loves Harry Potter even though she is not an avid gamer with a beefy PC. Comparison between xbox, which you can only play with a tv, vs nintendo switch, which is a handheld console, is somehow unfair. For something this big, nintendo switch outdid itself for this one. You can literally play hogwarts legacy anywhere.
The switch version of games are equivalent to the PSP versions of games back in 2005
But how does it take to load? Are we going to be sitting for 1-2 minutes every time the game is loaded and initialized (like HOTD remake or like Skyrim..or even FFX remaster?)

They have no excuse, and we knew that for a long time! This game is a prime example that Gamefreak doesn't know how to sell a fluid game and work with the technology they're associated with.
If you cant afford and PS5 or Xbox One then get the dumbed down version on Switch. For best portable then get a Stean Deck.
