My neighbors, retired, 60's, got a Goldendoodle 2 yrs ago. Breeder said it was a mini. Wrong. It was a standard. Wife faceplanted into the ground when the dog jerked the leash to go after a squirrel. Husband suffered a fractured ankle when the dog pulled him down. Goldendoodles are way too much dog for most seniors, unless they're not first time dog owners and they still have the strength and wherewithal to have these dogs properly trained.
Thank you for including the greyhound. They make superb companions and are super-clean.
Chinese Crested! Loyal, loving, great personalities, adaptable, extremely sensitive to their human’s emotions making them excellent emotional support animals. Also though small, they are protective and will let you know when someone they do not consider “family” is around. I call mine my Mobile Alarm System. The hairless variety require very little maintenance except regular bathing and a quick brush of what little hair they have on head, feet, and tail. The powderpuff (full body hair) variety additionally require a set brushing routine (mine have been fine with being brushed every other day though I enjoy the interaction of brushing so brush mine nearly every day) plus a hair cut or trim every 4-8 weeks depending on the length you like their hair…short & sassy or long & elegant. I got my first Chinese Crested when I was 45 yrs old, I am now 67 and cannot picture ever being without a Crested in my life. The two I have brightening my life now are both rescues. Once each realized she was safe and could trust me to take care of her, both have bonded with me and it is hard to remember I did not raise them from pups considering the love they give me. I love them just as much back. Chinese Cresteds are a fantastic companion breed.
I'm 70, and have two golden retrievers and a jack russell. I have help walking the retievers but I'd never want a small yappy dog. The only dog that ever bit me was a corgi, and my jack russell is more trouble than the two retrievers put together, being aggressive with other animals and children. After my retrievers i may go for a retired greyhound. But never a small dog….
Dachshund & Chihuahua
I loved Mastiffs, but I'm getting a little to old for them now.
My all time favoite was an minature american Eskimo dog
Most of the dogs required grooms which can be expensive. You need to look at the Boston Terrier. Smart and lighter weight than a FB better disposition. A very good dog!
What about the Papillions???? Tiny energetic and affectionate!(
Poodle—just lost mine in January. She was almost 18 years old. I miss her terribly!
Westies are the besties!
As a Gen Z young male, I plan on getting a Saint Bernard when I'm in my old ages.
Staffordshire Terrier, great dogs and will also provide security.
Greyhound
Iam 74 and i have a maltese and labrador retriever and they make the best family i could possibly have.
I think if I see one more idiot pushing corgis as a dog for seniors I'll scream. I have one and my sister(86) has had two. These are working dogs. They are born and bred to spent all day herding cattle or sheep. They're bred to bark and nip at the laggers. They blow their coats twice a year but also shed constantly. Yes, they are cute and adorable but definitely NOT for older people. They are strong, active animals that need a job or they get into all kinds of trouble.
I love Schnauzers! Good guard dogs! Super loyal, people pleasers, No matter the size.
Corgis are my favorite, just lost my 18 year old buddy, cant replace him but I am ready to make a new friend.
lunch
I have a miniature poodle, he is so cute and sweet. He is perfect for me.
If I were to get one from the list it would be a greyhound
Love my doberman. And my border collie is pure sugar.
I’m a senior and I have two Boston Terriers I raised from pups. They’re now 7 years old. I couldn’t have asked for better low maintenance companions. No offense but IMHO such a list that fails to include Boston Terriers lacks credibility.
Fiction frise
Goldendoodle is a cross breed of Golden Retriever and Poodle!
What about a Cavapoo? I'm a senior, and all your 10 dogs on the list are great, but I was also thinking about a Cavapoo. Anyone out there have any thoughts??
I think fir my 82 year old mother, the Bichon Frees is looking best, from what you said. Im going to go now and watch more on them. Thanks for the video
Bulldog, American
I ALREADY HAVE TWO CATS—-I DEFINITELY DO NOT EVER WANT A PRETEND CAT MASQUERADING AS A DOG! I want a dog for protection!
The Golden Doodle is NOT a cross between a Labrador & a Poodle. It’s between a Golden Retriever & a Poodle
Grandparents lost their plump chihuahua yesterday… she was 17. She used to belong to my cousin who cut ties with us after a nasty divorce. Not sure if a new pup is a good idea, but certainly will let her mourn Minnie for a little while
MaltiBichon we love him our forever puppy‼️
There is no such thing as a golden lab. It's yellow. I swear, the idiots who do these videos don't know diddly squat abou5 their subjects.
