I mean "get woke go broke" spattering aside, it's hard to ignore that part of the reason that Ubisoft is in this hole is that the front-facers working on AC Shadows spent more time extolling virtues they don't care about, for people they don't care about, to a set of consumers that aren't going to give the game a second thought, and in the process so thoroughly disrespecting the culture they're adapting from at every single possible step that it's gotten the attention of their government, of whom almost certainly are just waiting for the game to hit the market before they take legal action in seeking damages, and it's pretty obvious that they only moved the release date to February in order to make the attempt to use Black History Month as a shield from criticism, a move which, to put it mildly, is just fucking disgusting.

How it went in Ubi:
We need to make a Star Wars game, now think! Jedi are overrated with light sabers and the force, and bundles of sticks are intimidated by good-looking women like Princess Leia so are gonna cry on X and those are the people that make us money. I know, let's make our main protagonist ugly on purpose, hire a model for a game, and then "fix" her by giving her that chiseled jaw and beating her mercilessly with the ugly stick. That's what they want, and they are going to line up for this in droves. Why did we hire a model then? Hmm doesn't matter release it that's gonna be GOTY for sure.
We have to create a game set in feudal Japan, how are we gonna do it? Create an authentic story exploring the period and culture of that time? Meh, nobody wants that, and besides how are we gonna insert current-day politics that those bundles of sticks are currently going crazy for? They are currently going nuts for some fentanyl junkie, that might be something, hmm. What else do they like… They like BBC up their bum, write that down…. They like to pretend that bundles of sticks aren't disgusting with their packing of fudge, we need to have some of that for sure. – I know, let's make a game about a black guy wreaking havoc in feudal Japan and we can also put a chick in it and make her lame and gay, pure genius, can we get two GOTYs at once I wonder.
Good riddance, I say. Their goal wasn't the creation of a good game, their main goal was to push their weird worldview on people that want nothing to do with it. And they try to persuade ordinary people that putting fudge in packaging isn't disgusting at all and biting pillows is kinda fun really. Until they stop putting out propaganda masquerading as games companies will go under and activists will lose their jobs. They can sweep streets since they can't make games, that's for sure.
What’s funny is I was originally decently excited to buy a mediocre Star Wars game where you play as a girl. And then saw it was Ubisoft and noped out. At least in my case, “Go woke go broke” was literally the opposite of the problem.
What the large gaming companies don't realise is that game development is an art. Design, graphics art, sound etc mean you need to have creative people involved and the "monetization" of games in recent years hasn't contributed to any positive creativity.

Don't really have much to say about Ubisoft other than that I was a huge fan of the earlier Assassin's Creed games and scowling at what it's become but have seen this story too many times to be shocked or outraged anymore. How does that saying go again… "You either die while everyone still believes the facade you put forth and get wrongly hailed as a hero or live long enough for every inch of your slimy, repulsive wickedness to come to light and get rightly seen as the villain you always were."
At this point all I can hope for is a long overdue vermin-eating-vermin scenario. I'd love to see Ubisoft's ownership and the gamergoobers go at each other's throats, even though it would probably be a very short battle.
