How long do kongs last? I gave my old man (12, lg crossbreed) one the other day and it last an hour. It was frozen solid, I was shocked it had it cleaned out in an hour. I thought it would last longer.
been watching your videos and helpful, but I'm at my wits end because I know my 6mo old aussie mix needs to play with other dogs, but there are no dog parks within an hour drive and I don't know anyone with dogs for him to play with. I've tried many of your tips and take him for walks a couple times a day but he still will jump on me incessantly and bite on me when I walk in the yard to try and get him to play fetch. He does good during training sessions, but at least once a day he attacks me. My fault for getting a rescue puppy at 65. Guess I'll keep watching and hope I find something to help him.
Teething = painful gums = they chew on things w le dont want. Play tug war with your dog it pulls on the teeth ans gums relieving the pressure and pain = no more chewing on unwanted things. Tip someone gave me and worked a treat on my amstaff.
My pitbull puppy keeps jumping on my Anatolian Shepherd and doesn’t seem phased by my Anatolian’s anger and discipline when she does this. How do I stop that behavior? My Anatonian is the alpha and she’s 5yrs old. I know dogs learn best with other dogs but, this one is just relentless and doesn’t seem to get the hint, whatsoever. Please help!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
If puppies "don't get it", why then do mother dogs correct their puppies when they get to be too much? They actually do get it.
My male 4 month golden retriever likes a pizzle chew but after he has had it or I have taken it away he will lunge growl and zoomies for a minimum of 10 mins or bite me.
Can a 10 month old rescue learn to stop the nipping and biting or is he past that stage of learning? My rescue (Pit/Lab/Catahoula/Boxer mix) is giving me such a challenge with this. It's the worst when he starts to get tired or over excited with play. He's just going to get bigger and I worry that he's never going to learn to inhibit his nipping/biting.
My puppy gets chews all the time. I am constantly redirecting the chewing to other items. Turning my back doesn't help because she will and has just nip my butt. She nips at my other dog like these puppies are, often grabbing her leather collar. She tends to only nip at me in our family of 4. Most of her adult teeth are in and these nips are starting to really hurt. The only two I have figured out is the "I want breakfast and I want dinner" nips. She's using nipping at me to communicate. I am her person. Watching your videos to find the one that works for my situation.
But how often do you feed your dog the chews? I mean theres no limit to frozen kongs as they contain your dogs regular food, but surely a bully sticks or the likes a day is too much?
Im getting a berner puppy in 2 months. Happy for the videos, thank you.
A huge stuffed animal they can see as larger than them helps when you can't always get your pup around other dogs too, In my opinion and experience.
Ive read in many places that a dog can go out for a walk every week theyre old. So lets say a 10 weeks old pup can only go to the dog park for 10 minutes? Or can she go there longer?
Bless you. As many others have said. You're 1 of the few ppl giving advice to (I guess) the outliers who aren't able to be helped by all of these other channels who primarily preach nipping is natural, don't get mad at them, & give them a chew toy to redirect. They don't discuss aggressive chewers, constantly being used as a chew toy by your dog (esp bigger & stronger breeds), being aggressive with the amount & type of chew toys you give them. So TY!
OK, so what if I have a dog (14 yr old male maltipoo) who does care? My 16 week old golden doodle (female who is twice as big as the maltipoo) just wants to play with and nip on the maltipoo, but he isn't really into it. Should i just let them go at it or try to find another dog she can nip at? I look forward to hearing something! Anyone else had this kind of problem?
Marrow bones lead to chipped teeth. I had that happen to my dogs..one tooth was so bad it had to be removed
Thise are such pretty puppies
I knew Beckman would have a video on this
What if I only have one puppy and I don’t know anyone in my neighbour hood with dogs . What’s the alternative without using another dog to satiate my puppy ?
We’re raising a Rotty puppy right now. We are giving marrow bones, fish skins daily, and frozen Kongs. Even twice daily, thanks for the video.
What brand of bully sticks do you recommend? I am always concerned about additives, preservatives and processing of natural dog “toys” so your recommendation would be greatly appreciated!
Let’s say you can’t get your puppy with other dogs, or you’re having a hard time with that. Then is it ever okay to satiate them by playing with them yourself while wearing protective gloves/sleeves?
Thank you for this. It's good to know I am not alone.
My Pyr has bully sticks, yak cheese chews and sometimes rawhide rolls always available to her. (She wasn’t a fan of the Kong toys.) She has never chewed anything of ours. We’ve had her almost 3 months, and haven’t lost a shoe. No furniture damage. Nothing. Huge fan of this method. I’m happy, and she’s very happy.
Raw beef hip bones. More cartridge than the marrow bones. My dog chews on it longer
I need to increase these things and try to think of better things to fill th topple which I like better than a kong. My standard poodle is 7 months old now and we still struggle with arousal and attention seeking nipping and what I’d call mouthing or grabbing as opposed to biting . It gets overwhelming at times. We are trying to exercise her more but even after a long walk she still gets the bitey zoomies in the evenings just reduced .
I do give marrow bones but not every day. I’ll think of buying some bully sticks next visit to the pet store . My last standard poodle was not nearly as hyper at this age.
I said to my mom we should put her in daycare a couple times a months so she gets doggy playtime. I’m even thinking of knocking on a neighbour’s door sometimes to see if she’ll bring her adult golden out to play with Molly a bit.
Excellent video and advice. And for this reason I like to have 2 dogs. My young beagle and my elderly rottweiler play tug of war often… and the rottie could "win," but he doesn't, he just keeps playing
How do you fix a 6 month old puppy that does what I call "excitement nips" when we come home? We live on a farm and have 2 6 month old puppies and they both jump when we come outside or get home and one of them nips and whines. I've tried lots of stuff but nothing is working 🙁
My puppy was crazy with chewing. So much changed after she discovered chew toys!
I have a 4 month old puppy but no doggos like this for him to play with unless we find some at the dog park, but I'm not yet ready to deal with other uneducated dogs there its kind of difficult.
I agree about the bully sticks, but their cost has skyrocketed. Difficult to be spending more on bully sticks for the dog over food for my family.
ICE CUBES TIED IN A SOCK – a great satiation tool as well.
I have a 7yr old lab that does this everyday with my 14 month old puppy. He is very good at teaching the puppy proper behavior.
new lab puppy in our home – my older dogs are NOT fans of the jumping and nipping – there is one that will occasionally play with her and another that is an English Shephard – bless him – he allows her to follow him all over the yard nipping and leaping at him..
I literally went searching for a jumping one !!! This guy is a God of dog training
