My male chi neutered is 5 years old. Definitely a one man (woman) dog. Very loving in his safe environment. Takes his guarding of the home seriously. Great security. Nothing gets past him. My companion and best friend. He can be aggressive outside with other dogs and even some strangers if he feels insecure or nervous. But if you know their behavioural issues these can be avoided by moving chi away to distract and carry on. Love him so much and wouldn’t change this breed for any other.

Aww see i thought females were less crazy but my girls are so hyper well esp with my bf who has their mom and dad at his house. They are 1/2 chihauha. My girls are actually more chill in day esp if I'm only one here. One loves all people and needs to foll0w me or be around me almost all the time. The other one isn't as social with other animals nor does she really like everyone. She's more sensitive to loud noises any noises esp if they sense any negativity between people 🙄. She loves me my mom my bf, but can chill by herself likes being feeling secure alone will go into crate if she's nervous or wants privacy. Hope this helps others. I thought females would be calmer which they are for most** part cept at night. They want to sleep in day and play at night, sometimes they veg all day. Need to take on more walks
I took my male Chihuahua, who lived with three Boxers, to an obedience class, which turned out to be the best thing I have ever done! I smile remembering how the instructor would rant about small dog owners who carried around their small dogs all the time which causied them to be fearful and protective (snappy!) So on the ground my dog went and he was introduced to everyone-both humans and dogs and I never ever had a problem with him. I now have three female Chi's that I rescued and they are all well adjusted and extremely friendly dogs and accepting of my other two dogs as well. I have to say that from my experiences the females are a lot bossier than my male…although my male was THE BOSS of my Bocers!! All the Chi's love nothing more than being on laps and are so sweet!

I have two Chihuahuas a male and a female. I had their mother as well . Their mother was just like here sun. And here daughter is differently and for sure my dog and well play or sleep with the family. But of im around she right in my lap . The also play with geam shepherds
One of the most hilarious scenes I remember between our male and female chihuahua pair was the female pushing the male sideways while sitting on the couch with her rump. The male starting growling and showing his teeth getting louder with each shove of her rear end. She never growled or showed her teeth once. After a bit of this she took her paw and smacked him in the face a few times as if to say Aww. Shut Up. All he could do was shut up and show an astonished, surprised look. We all cried laughing.

My husbands Chihuahua that he had before we got married she was a small puppy when i met her is a very jealous dog. She is always trying to block any attention my husband gives me, tries to sleep in the bed with him and charges at my face a couple times in the middle of the night. She is also sweet but honestly, I would NEVER get a Chihuahua. She turns her nose up at me and doesn't listen to me and sweet when she wants. Its draining, her following him around EVERYWHERE and if hes in a room and i go in she tries to follow. That explains why my Luna is very independent. She does have her moments when she wants to be cuddled and doted on but only for a short time. She isn't the greatest with other dogs. She's a rescue stray and I've tried getting her used to social settings and whatnot. She does better with other people but not with dogs haha.

WTH are you talking about?! I had my boy for 15 years; he didn't give a rats fart if I was there or not there, quite independent. He would come check on me time to time during the day / night and at some point he stopped sleeping with me and slept in his own beds. He was an ESA trained by me and my patients; loved and tolerated everyone including other animals. My female now of 8 years is the same. So this lets me know it's all about HOME TRAINING, how one is taught throughout their lifetime.
My 17 year female Deer-headed Chihuahua rescue is a handful. Got her when she was 9 yr old and she suffered from medical issues and trauma. She's doing fine but the one behavior I have not been able to correct is her aggressiveness towards other dogs (big and small). The only dogs she seems to get along with are sick ones and pups. I assume that is because instinctively she knows their no danger. I encourage getting rescues but understand going in, any breed can be difficult if they've not been trained properly and early.
Believe the female more relaxed or laid back over the male, but this is with other breeds as well of the aspect I'm referring to.
