Visualizing Chinese EV Market Share Overseas

The U.S. has imposed 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs, so you won’t find a Chinese-made EV in the United States.

That said, other countries have embraced cheap Chinese EVs, and are buying boatloads of them. This visualization from Elements, partnering with Rho Motion and Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, breaks it all down.

China dominates EV markets in select countries.

For example, in Brazil, 82% of all EVs are Chinese-made. Or in Mexico or Thailand, about 70% or 77% respectively.

Yet in other places, China comes up empty-handed. In both Canada and the U.S., sales are zero. In Japan, which also has a robust vehicle market, Chinese EVs are just 2% of the market.

The Top 10 U.S. Trade Deficits and Surpluses

U.S. trade has been in the spotlight recently.

This visual from James Eagle looks at the biggest trade deficits and surpluses America has, and has stimulated quite a lot of discussion in doing so.

Users debated everything from the significance of trade deficits (in the first place) to the importance of the U.S. dollar as a global reserve currency. Others talked about the implications of trade deficits on neighboring trade relationships, like with Canada and Mexico.

One Year of Global Plastic Waste Visualized

Have you ever tossed something into the garbage bin, wondering how much waste is actually created by humans in a calendar year?

Well, this visualization from Harrison Schell of MadeVisual breaks it all down for you.

It turns out packaging is the big culprit here, with almost 40% of waste coming from that source.

Meanwhile another 44% is almost equally split between consumer products, vehicles, textiles, and construction/electronics as waste sources.

All in all, we’re talking about humans generating about 400 million tonnes of plastic waste per year. That’s a lot!
