This is a very salient review of the Origins.
Being an owner of origin game table I would absolutely not purchase one again, it is not built well and the customer service has been terrible.
I backed the Origins campaign the first time around and am incredibly regretful. It is not the product that was promised and has many design flaws. Go watch Game Brigade's experience, even though he is far kinder than I would be.
Looks like an affordable table. I was in the market but decided to use a local woodworker and just get exactly what I want rather than settle for a table that ultimately fail at some point to fit something. Had my guy build an 8×5 table with a 6×4 vault which basically fits anywhere from a 40k Apoc game down to a 2 player game of Munchkin.
Also, going local cuts out those ridiculous delivery fees which almost add 25-30% of the cost of just a standard table.
My concerns with gaming tables is bending over them hurting both my back and my wrists with my arthritis. Also they would need to be deep enough for miniatures for me. At least until I can learn to build a custom wargaming table full of terrain for Warhammer fantasy.
I looked at the Origins as it is a relatively affordable option in the game table market, but I didn't care for the bulky look and the craftsmanship didn't seem to match what I'm looking for. I'll probably go with the Wyrmwood Modular Game Table 2.0, depending on how much their prices increase from the 1st KS. The first KS prices were fantastic for what you were getting.
Board games plus ! Thanks for the review 🙂
This is too expensive. Go with a game topper. 600 to 1k or just by a poker table topper for like 300. This a very very very premium product that looks cool.
Do any boardgamers ever discuss chairs? My wife hates sitting more than two hours in virtually any kitchen chairs, and wondered if there was the same level of tailored chairs to assist with lengthy time spent playing board games. Great video though Quackalope I am going over to look at their KS now
Your game shelf is getting me sad lol. All those unopened games!!!
🐐🥁👍
I can't write here without being kind of disappointed. I searched for gaming tables on Qalopes channel and other YT channels over the years and each seem to push a multiple-thousand dollar table. These tables aren't for everyone, and I hate how niche the community wants to be.
I would appreciate someone to actually make and/or review a real affordable table. $2500 is NOT affordable. I have purchased an $1000 dining table that is solid, rare wood with a mechanical hidden leaf system and 6 chairs of the same material that has lasted for 10+ years. I can't fathom that a vault, felt, wood cover, cupholders, die trays, etc can justify double the price of my dining room table.
I'm not judging the video, I get the reasons to do a video like this and it's money. I just see table videos, kickstarter games, etc and know people feel like they "need" that to be at this level and aspire to be like the people they see. They'll spend thousands of dollars that they shouldn't and I just wish people knew what impact they have on people when they product place. Again, this isn't to say I'm pointing at this channel and saying they aren't taking responsibility. I am just starting to realize board gaming channels don't cater to my budget even with me owning tons of games and big ticket items like KDM and it's expansions, I still feel like I'm on the outside looking in.
Hmm Geeknson Tables are a lot cheaper, you can get all of them for below 2000$ I think and some of them even look better. I not in the market for a game table, too big, too chunky and in most cases just to plain ugly. I like light and slim furniture, but I have looked into some just because they are cool and fascinating, and from what I've seen I wouldn't call 2500$ cheap.
You can see that the leaves are warped and also the different heights between covered uncovered are a big no no, that's just not good. Something that should help dealing with dinks and scratches is getting natural wood. With stained wood you will see any scratch because the stain comes off and you can see the natural wood underneath. A general rule is to just get the wood that you want, stain isn't that great. I like the color of the table though, it goes well with the yellow quackalope suede surface.
I think for a board game table video you should really show the fully uncovered table, I know it was unfortunate that Sleeping Gods was set up on top but yeah. Also why don't you play that in the vault? Aren't campaign games what board game tables are perfect for? Leave it set up in the vault and play other games on top in the meantime. Having Sleeping Gods permanently set up on top kind of makes the gam table useless, doesn't it?
I need a gaming tablet that can store a Marvel Zombies Galactus🤔
The problem with these kind of tables is the are way over priced in my opinion. Similar dining tables in Canada are half the price of the origins table. Although I would like a gaming table in the future, the mark ups to these tables vs normal dining tables isn't worth it to me.
I was waiting for this one! Thanks Jesse!
Wrymwood should have their 2nd modular gaming table kickstarter coming soon. I got one on the first kickstarter and OOOOOO is it nice!
what are those black things you put in the recesses on the sides?? i have one and i think that would be great to help level out the surface!
i can tell you one thing. i would be uploading a lot more regular if i had a dedicated gaming space great video jesse Stay Hexy!
Looking good Jessie. You age better than the table. Interesting take on getting a table. 3 inch vault is needed for miniature games. But 1.5" vault is good for anything else and better for comfort.
Me and a gaming buddy are going to create one with two levels. Lucky he has the skills to do it. I benefit with help.
I still have plans to build my own table with an adjustable play area but the project has been on ice for more than two years by now.
Im sorry but in a world where the jasper table exist you just cant call that table affordable.
I appreciated this. I'm in the market, but I think I will go with a different table. I'm looking for that piece that has the fined tune edges and more craftsman feel. Also, somehow, 72" by 48" just seems a little small for where I'm putting it. This definitely helped me with the decision though.
Great video. I love your table. It's beautiful and chunky. I like big sturdy tables over ones that creak and move when a big guy like me leans on them. I share your issue with the height thing though. I think if the legs were just about two inches shorter it would be perfect.
?QUESTION: Jesse, what is the wall to wall size of your gaming room. Wondering if the table would fit in mine with Kallax and shelves?
Thank you for talking about this. Even though I probably won't be getting one soon, it is always valuable to have as much information as possible!
"It maybe hard at times for you to get these big hunks off without an extra hand or two. Its not impossible, can I can easily do it myself." ::laughs like Beavis and Butthead::
Definitely not the cheapest or most affordable. $2k dollars without even the dining top.:/
We really like our Jasper from Board Game Tables, was very affordable and the quality is really nice as a first time table.
So you should look @Rathskellers Sunnygeeks game table. I got the Sunnygeeks and it was cheaper and the handmade quality looks to be superior on Rathskellers table. It has padded color fabric toppers to make it more comfortable to rest on. They also offer 2 styles of metal legs. They use the magnetic boxes and have toppers with drink holder built in so they don't hang off the sides. Not a fan of big thick heavy clunky wood. You should look at the Sunnygeeks if you're interested in this table as you may want to explore the Craftsmanship of Rathskellers. It's not much more, hand crafted from Greece and a new KS upcoming.
Bryan at GameBridgade mentioned in one of his videos that the middle leaves of the dining top get pushed out of place when he would put his arm down on the table or lean into it. He found it very annoying to the point where I don't think he recommended the table. Was this something that you encountered or do you typically not use the dining top? I know that the season 2 table has some kind of anti-slip pads stuck on the leaves, but I'm not convinced that will complete solve the issue.
And thanks for including both the 3 best and worst features in your video!
I tried to buy one but needed a counter height since I didn't want to buy new chairs. There wasn't an option so I went with a GameTopper instead.
The coffee tablet they have is super cool but my god it is expensive to get the functionality they advertise for it.
Is it purely coincidence that I asked you about what kind of gaming table you would suggest in FB messenger and then you put out this video? If not, I'm honored!
